In truth, Ye Xiuyuan did not necessarily need to enter the secret realm this time. As the only son of Ye Rong'an, he had been meticulously cared for since childhood due to his frail health. He had everything he wanted; why should he exert himself and risk failure?
His actions were merely a response to hearing that Lu Mingyuan was searching for news about the Jade Bone Grass, which happened to be found in the Xiaonan Mountain secret realm. One with a damaged foundation and another seeking medicinal herbs for healing—what were they trying to achieve? It was all too clear. Moreover, he had heard from Lu Mingyuan that Qi Xiao seemed to have some interest in it.
Ye Xiuyuan had finally cornered Qi Xiao into this situation; how could he allow him to turn the tables? Thus, he personally sought out Master Hanying and his father. Sure enough, after some discussion, they immediately settled on his name.
As for Qi Xiao, Ye Xiuyuan still regarded him as that useless person. As for himself, one day he would be able to change this body through devouring fortune and truly reach a peak where no one could match him.
Stepping out of the Cold Moon Hall, Ye Xiuyuan rubbed his chest where a dull pain throbbed. He pressed his lips tightly together, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.
Qi Xiao did not expect that the next day, Master Hanying would agree to his request; however, the situation turned out to be somewhat different from what he had imagined. The disciples of Qingjing Peak were few in number. Since you want it so much, I will lower my stance and personally ask the sect leader for an additional spot.
It was not uncommon for there to be vacancies in the secret realm quota due to the scarcity of disciples at Qingjing Peak. Master Hanying used this as an excuse; it was reasonable for him to request an extra spot.
However, Master Hanying's tone shifted as he set down his teacup, his gaze lightly resting on the jade ring. Qi Xiao understood immediately and quickly said, "Disciple understands; I will send the Purple Jade Spirit Grass to Junior Brother Ye shortly."
Sending it to that little man Ye Xiuyuan was truly letting him off easy. However, when Qi Xiao had arrived at the harvesting site earlier, he discovered a cluster of Purple Jade Spirit Grass and decided to take only the youngest specimen, which wasn’t too much of a loss.
Master Hanying responded slowly with a sound of acknowledgment. "As long as you can get along harmoniously with your junior brother, I will be at ease."
But Qi Xiao, remember this: some feelings only need to happen once. If I encounter it again, do not blame me for being merciless and personally cleaning up the sect.
A cold sweat broke out on Qi Xiao’s back as a chilling breeze swept through. He lowered his head and replied, "Disciple understands."
Ultimately, Qingjing Peak was not a place for long stays. If he continued to linger here, how could he ensure his life? He needed to grow stronger quickly and leave Qingjing Peak—even escape from the Xiaoyao Sect entirely.
Time flies swiftly.
At Qingjing Peak, by the azure stream, a bamboo pavilion stood to one side. It was the day for the disciples of Qingjing Peak to gather.
The disciples' progress in their cultivation varied, and they practiced in different locations. Therefore, Master Hanying had set a date for the disciples to meet each month, with Su Lingyue overseeing their progress. However, since Master Hanying rarely appeared and allowed Su Lingyue some leniency, these monthly checks turned into gatherings, complete with various fruits and snacks.
"Junior Brother Ye, it's been a while since we last met. I was in seclusion and missed your initiation ceremony, so this is my apology gift."
The girl in blue smiled gently, like an orchid blooming in the dark night. Her beauty was graceful and elegant, and there was a faint scent of herbs surrounding her with every movement. This was Lan Wanyu, the fourth disciple of Qingjing Peak.
She walked up to Ye Xiuyuan with a beaming smile and took out a delicate porcelain vial.
A glimmer of surprise flashed in Ye Xiuyuan's eyes; he almost reached out to take it immediately but hesitated on the surface.
"Senior Brother, you flatter me. It's already a great fortune for me to be accepted by our master and spend time with all of you sisters. I can't possibly accept any more gifts."
Lan Wanyu's smile grew even softer. "Just take it. When I first joined, I received one too."
Yu Miaoyin leaned forward, nodding repeatedly. "Yes, yes! This is our Qingjing Peak tradition; you mustn't break it."
Ye Xiuyuan felt embarrassed; his face flushed slightly as he quietly thanked her and accepted the vial.
Seeing his flustered expression, Yu Miaoyin couldn't help but pinch his cheek playfully, causing him to plead for mercy until Su Lingyue intervened to stop their playful antics.
"My apologies for being late, everyone."
A bright female voice rang out.
As she spoke, a figure clad in fiery red flew before them and landed gracefully.
The girl had slender legs and a long waist; her figure was enchanting. A striking phoenix flower birthmark adorned her brow, accentuating her red lips and pearly teeth—her beauty was stunning.
As she walked, her red skirt fluttered around her, revealing her long legs; at her ankles hung two golden bells threaded with red cords that jingled with each step, creating a captivating sound that stirred the hearts of those around her.
Feng Hongying quickly approached Ye Xiuyuan and cheerfully ruffled his hair.
"Congratulations, Junior Brother Ye! You've finally joined us! It’s been so long since we last met; do you miss your sister?"
Feng Hongying was a physical cultivator who needed to hone her body in harsh environments. She had been far from the secret realm where she trained and could not return for some time.
However, she was the most enthusiastic towards Ye Xiuyuan. Feeling the warmth of this body, Ye Xiuyuan's face flushed slightly, and he quickly turned his head away, only to be met by Feng Hongying, who approached him with a smile, unhurried and teasing.
"Alright, don't tease him anymore," the Senior Sister spoke up. Feng Hongying had no choice but to comply, pouting in disinterest. She glanced around and suddenly spoke up again.
"Where is he? Why hasn't he arrived yet?"
The atmosphere around them immediately froze. Feng Hongying was puzzled and, moving to the table, she grabbed a piece of cake and stuffed it into her mouth, her voice muffled.
"What do you mean by not talking?"
Lan Wanyu frowned slightly. "It's about him."
On the day of their monthly gathering, Qi Xiao couldn't possibly be unaware; his absence alone cast a shadow over everyone's hearts.
Feng Hongying immediately dropped the cake, her expression turning angry.
"Is he still sulking?"
"Hmph, this is outrageous! After committing such a grave mistake, Master and Junior Brother Ye were already merciful to forgive him. How dare he show such a face? No, I must teach him a good lesson!"
With that, Feng Hongying took off in a rush.
In the bamboo pavilion, the other disciples exchanged glances but did not stop her. Qi Xiao's behavior was indeed a bit unreasonable; letting the hot-tempered Feng Hongying give him a lesson might help him learn a thing or two.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The stone door echoed with three loud knocks, each one more forceful than the last, as if to say that if the person inside did not come out to open the door, they would break it down.
Qi Xiao was disturbed by the noise and could no longer remain calm. He impatiently opened his eyes, got up from his seat, and pulled open the stone door.
At that moment, a fist came flying toward him, nearly hitting Qi Xiao squarely in the face. Fortunately, at the critical moment, it stopped just short of his nose.
