Soon, the events on the floating island spread through Pingjin City like wildfire. People were skeptical, and the Golden Armored Guards caught wind of the rumors, escalating reports up the chain. The person in charge wanted to consult the city lord for guidance but discovered that the lord was nowhere to be found.
The city lord's mansion stood with its doors tightly shut. As the rumors grew increasingly alarming, the silence from the lord only fueled speculation, leading many to believe he was feeling guilty, which made the gossip even more rampant.
Su Lingyue and her companions returned to the inn, their faces pale as they listened to the various discussions in the lobby. They had initially planned to leave, but the formation had activated, isolating the floating island from the outside world. Hearing a loud commotion from within the island, they hurried over, only to discover that it was caused by Xie Hong and Baohua Sanren, two Golden Core stage cultivators!
Realizing they were no match for them, they quietly hid away. Just moments ago, they had managed to escape when the formation was damaged. After all their efforts, however, they returned empty-handed.
Song Xiaoling cursed under her breath, wishing she could chop those two into pieces, prompting agreement from the others. Su Lingyue pressed her forehead in exhaustion, feeling drained.
"Senior Sister, what's wrong?" As they got caught up in their conversation, they turned to find Su Lingyue's expression dark and contemplative.
Su Lingyue shook her head; a thick cloud of worry loomed over her thoughts.
Song Xiaoling sensed an unease. "Senior Sister, have you noticed something off?"
Su Lingyue bit her lip hesitantly. "I just feel that things have been too unstable outside lately!"
The appearance of Baohua Sanren made her realize a critical issue: Baohua Sanren had been active much earlier than she had imagined! If she could report this matter to their sect, could it save Xiaoyao Sect from crisis?
Moreover, it seemed that Baohua Sanren had intricate ties with the Demon Realm. If they could follow this lead within their sect, perhaps they could alert them in advance and prepare for action—maybe even prevent a disaster!
After much contemplation, Su Lingyue decided to return to the sect personally to explain everything. Upon hearing her plan, Song Xiaoling was perplexed.
"Even though Baohua Sanren is suspicious, he's just an ordinary evil cultivator. There are plenty of people in this cultivation world who can deal with him. Why do you need to go back yourself?"
"Besides," she continued, "this incident happened on the floating island; it’s not our Xiaoyao Sect's responsibility!"
"It’s precisely your indifferent attitude that allows things to spiral out of control! You missed your chance when it first arose; now that you sense something wrong, it might be too late!"
Su Lingyue's tone was firm; she not only refused to listen but also reprimanded them all.
The atmosphere suddenly shifted, and the group lowered their heads, shrinking back like quails. Ye Xiuyuan turned his eyes around, unable to help but speak up. "Senior Sister, have you noticed something wrong?"
In Ye Xiuyuan's view, his senior sister was not the type to panic over minor issues. Her current anxiety seemed less about fear and more about the necessity of reporting something serious.
But what could possibly make Su Lingyue so uneasy? A rogue cultivator might have some underhanded methods, but what was there to warrant such concern?
Ye Xiuyuan pondered this for a long time, ultimately concluding that perhaps Su Lingyue had discovered some significant secret.
Upon hearing his words, Su Lingyue looked at Ye Xiuyuan with a calm yet complex expression. Ye Xiuyuan touched his face, feeling a bit shy. "Senior Sister, why are you looking at me like that?"
Su Lingyue coldly shifted her gaze away. "It's nothing. I just think that your health is fragile, and it’s really not suitable for you to join us on this expedition. How about I take you back instead?"
She had no idea when Ye Xiuyuan had gotten involved with the demon clan. Previously, she thought the cultivation world was peaceful and had delayed addressing the matter. However, the recent incident involving Baohua Sanren had sounded alarm bells for her.
The monsters on that floating island coming back to life were truly bizarre and bore a resemblance to magical beasts. Su Lingyue thought to herself that this turmoil was likely happening even earlier than she had imagined!
She had to keep Ye Xiuyuan under control and absolutely could not allow him any opportunity to come into contact with the demon clan. The best solution would be to take him back to their sect, clarify the situation, and ensure he was strictly monitored.
At worst, once they returned, she would immediately confess her dream to their Master. No matter what, their Master was an elder of the Xiaoyao Sect and a powerful figure in the cultivation world; she would never turn a blind eye to this matter.
If there truly was no one to supervise him, she would personally stay behind to watch over Ye Xiuyuan. As for the upcoming Immortal Gate Competition, she could simply choose not to participate.
However, upon hearing her words, the expressions of the others changed simultaneously. Ye Xiuyuan swayed slightly, disappointment evident on his face.
"Senior Sister, do you really find me so bothersome?" He bit his lip tightly, his eyes silently reddening. "I'm sorry; I understand now. I'll go back right away and won't trouble you anymore."
With that, he turned to leave but was immediately stopped by Yu Miaoyin.
She stood in front of Ye Xiuyuan, looking at Su Lingyue with a hint of reproach in her eyes. "Senior Sister, your words are too hurtful!"
"Have you forgotten?"
It was Master who personally said that all disciples of the Tranquil Peak should go out and experience the world. How can you just send Brother Ye back alone?
Even if Brother Ye's cultivation is low, that doesn't mean it's what he wants! Just because his cultivation is weak, does that mean he doesn't deserve to be your junior brother?
Su Lingyue frowned. "I didn't mean it that way. I'm only thinking of Brother Ye's safety. It's not safe outside right now; staying at Tranquil Peak is the best choice for him."
Yu Miaoyin let out a cold laugh. "The best choice? If you look down on him, just say so. Why use such grand words?"
Yu Miaoyin's words were truly excessive, and Song Xiaoling couldn't help but frown and scold softly, "Third Senior Sister, how can you speak to the First Senior Sister like that?"
Yu Miaoyin was taken aback. She crossed her arms and turned her head away, biting her lip in silence. Although she stopped speaking, her face was filled with stubbornness. Clearly, she was very dissatisfied with Su Lingyue's decision.
"This is all my fault; please don't argue anymore, both of you."
"First Senior Sister, I am willing to go back with you."
Yu Miaoyin frowned and shouted fiercely, "No way!"
Ye Xiuyuan looked at her awkwardly, wanting to say something but hesitating.
Yu Miaoyin was unconvinced and looked at the other two disciples with her hands on her hips. "Second Senior Sister, Junior Sister, do you think like First Senior Sister too?"
Song Xiaoling furrowed her brows slightly, a hint of discomfort flashing across her face. Of course, she felt sorry for Brother Ye. However, with his frail body and low cultivation, if they encountered a situation like today again, they wouldn't be able to protect him at all.
Slowly, Song Xiaoling said, "First Senior Sister has her own considerations in what she does; we don't need to say more."
Yu Miaoyin couldn't help but shout again, "Second Senior Sister!"
Song Xiaoling turned her head away and refused to look at her any longer.
