Yushen opened the hidden door to find Bai Ruojing weakly lying in the pool. At that moment, he was completely submerged in dark green water, with only his head and a bit of his chest exposed. He leaned against the edge of the pond, struggling to breathe. With each inhale and exhale, the black lotus flower on his chest swayed slightly.
The lotus had rooted itself in his chest, its tendrils invading his internal organs and eventually spreading into his bloodstream. The dark green water seeped into his body, only to be absorbed by the lotus. Over time, a thin layer of dark green scab formed on his skin. Bai Ruojing was in excruciating pain as he hoarsely spoke, "Just kill me!" Watching a flower take root and grow inside him felt worse than death itself.
A flicker of pity crossed Yushen's eyes, but it was overshadowed by indifference. "This is the price for your failure; it's a punishment from that esteemed one. You must endure it, whether you like it or not!" The other party didn't even have the right to seek death.
Understanding his words, Bai Ruojing froze for a moment before bitterly smiling, causing his chest to tremble. The lotus seemed displeased with Bai Ruojing's smile; its roots dug deeper into his flesh, causing him intense pain that made him convulse and turn pale.
He clenched his fists tightly, glaring at Yushen with deep-seated hatred. "People like you will not have a good ending!"

The next day, Qi Xiao had not yet settled into meditation when he was jolted by a series of vibrating jade talismans that disrupted his focus. As soon as he answered, he was met with Elder Chang's furious voice. "What have you found out in Jiangling? You didn't even notice that Bai's kid appeared nearby?"
Qi Xiao's head buzzed with confusion and indignation. They had wasted no time over these past few days; they had gone to great lengths to uncover the truth. How could Elder Chang make such an assessment?
Qi Xiao wanted to argue further, but Elder Chang interrupted him. "I don't have time to waste on you right now. That kid from the Bai family, you need to keep an eye on him immediately. I’ll be with Master Qingxu soon. Make sure he doesn’t escape before we arrive!"
"The kid from the Bai family? You mean that Bai Ruojing?" Qi Xiao asked, confused. "Isn’t he already taken away by that female demon?"
Elder Chang slammed his thigh in frustration. "That's exactly why it's strange! He was taken by the demon, and now he reappears near Jiangling in Wangjing City. What does that mean? It suggests that the demon might be lurking around here!"
"If the demon is nearby and there’s a ritual happening in Xunjiang, doesn’t that imply the demon is coming here for a reason?" Elder Chang urged. "You all should hurry to Jiangling; that's the priority."
Elder Chang hesitated for a moment, swayed by Qi Xiao's words, but soon his thoughts shifted again. "If this is indeed aimed at Xunjiang, then why release this Bai kid? What does that mean? Perhaps they want to create confusion on purpose. The main event is Xunjiang; why show up now instead of earlier or later?"
Elder Chang was thrown into confusion. Could it really be as Qi Xiao suggested—a ploy to draw them away?
Qi Xiao continued to coax him, "Elder Chang, why are you so flustered? Since you came with Master Qingxu, why not split up and cover both routes?"
Elder Chang stared silently for a moment before slowly responding, "Who do you think should go to Xunjiang and who should head to Wangjing?"
Qi Xiao chuckled softly. "Anyone can go; it mainly depends on what’s convenient for both of you. However, I think Xunjiang will be quite a spectacle."
"Aside from the elders of Baiyun Palace, other cultivation sects might also send people to witness it. If something unexpected happens, I worry that you might find yourself outnumbered and unable to maintain control," Qi Xiao added.
Elder Chang let out a thoughtful "Oh." "So according to you, it would be more appropriate for Master Qingxu to go to Xunjiang?"
"Hehe, I didn’t say that," Qi Xiao replied with a smile. "I’m just offering a small suggestion based on the situation."
Elder Chang sneered. "Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. You’re just worried that I’m not as powerful as Master Qingxu and want him to come over and support you."
"Elder Chang," Qi Xiao said earnestly, "you misunderstand me! How could I have such thoughts? I respect you as my elder; how could I look down on you? It’s just that this situation is rather... challenging."
"Besides, Bai Ruojing is merely at the Golden Core stage; as a Nascent Soul cultivator like yourself, wouldn’t it be easy for you to handle him?" Qi Xiao continued. "This should be a piece of cake for you. I’m just trying to consider your well-being and hoping you'll have less trouble."
Listening to his elaborate excuses, the words, though pretentious, were somewhat bearable. Elder Chang let out a reluctant "hm."
I will discuss this matter with Master Qingxu. As for where he wishes to go, that is his own business. Although your tongue is as smooth as silk, Master Qingxu is not someone whose resolve can be easily swayed. I cannot speculate on the decisions he will make.
"Then, that disciple will await your esteemed presence, Elder," he replied.
Seeing him manage to speak somewhat coherently, Elder Chang felt a sense of satisfaction and broke the jade talisman. But two seconds later, he suddenly recalled his original intention. Wasn't he supposed to send Qi Xiao to Wangjing to keep an eye on that young Bai from the Bai family? How had he ended up being swayed himself?

As his thoughts raced, he attempted to contact Qi Xiao through the jade talisman several times, but after multiple vibrations, there was still no response from the other side. Qi Xiao had set the glowing and warm jade talisman aside and sat cross-legged in meditation, ignoring it completely.
