Indeed, after Lin Yuan spoke those words, Zhong Anguo was no longer so calm.
The group of police officers had no idea that someone was behind them, let alone the situation concerning his son. Given the current circumstances, could it be that this police officer knew the people looking for him? After all, it was related to a case, and a temporary freeze wouldn't cause significant harm.
Once Lin Yuan stepped out, other officers were assigned to carry out this task. They did not disclose the specific timing of the freeze, and Zhong Anguo's expression grew increasingly anxious as he sat inside.
Zheng Yunyin curiously glanced inside.
"Is that it?"
There wasn't much to find on him; his son was the key. It all depended on whether they could catch a lead.
This didn't sound like something a delivery person would say, Zheng Yunyin thought. As she descended with Lin Yuan, she noticed several people approaching them.
Zhang Yao, the head of the criminal investigation team, saw Lin Yuan but said nothing. He turned to Zheng Yunyin instead: "Let's review those cases from a year ago; there might be some clues."
It wasn't easy for the people behind him to come together like this. Zhang Yao thought he should make good use of their time since he had just put in considerable effort earlier.
Zheng Yunyin discreetly glanced at Lin Yuan and noticed he seemed unfazed. She nodded in agreement and prepared to lead them.
"Wait a moment, Lin Yuan, you should stay too."
Zhang Yao remembered how he had been criticized during their last meeting in the conference room; this time he wanted to show the young man what professionalism looked like.
Lin Yuan naturally had no objections. Zheng Yunyin felt a bit worried; those consultants were more intimidating than Lin Yuan.
However, since she had already agreed, Zheng Yunyin could only go get the materials first.
There was a small conference room near the interrogation room, and Zhang Yao led everyone there.
The people involved in the case of Zhong Anguo were quite knowledgeable, with the lead consultant, Wang Yao, taking charge. Wang Yao glanced at the temporary consultant from the district police station; if it weren't for the prior notice from the bureau chief, he would have thought this was just some inexperienced kid.
"What are your plans regarding Zhong Anguo's case?" he asked.
His team was seated nearby, with only Zhang Yao and Lin Yuan sitting together. Lin Yuan took a sip of water and casually replied, "Once Zhong Anguo's son, Zhong Wei, arrives, we should be able to resolve it. We can follow the clues and, with a bit of luck, find the mastermind behind it all."
Seeing Lin Yuan's calm demeanor, Wang Yao felt a bit taken aback. The captain of the criminal investigation team hadn't spoken so confidently. "Is it really that simple?"
Lin Yuan didn't answer directly; instead, he turned to look at the entrance just as Zheng Yunyin walked in. The various cases had already been assigned to those present; they had solved numerous cases before and believed they could discern some patterns.
Zheng Yunyin explained, "Before you all arrived, these cases had already been uploaded for review by other consultants. However, most of them said they couldn't come to the scene in person and thus couldn't provide timely feedback. If we can resolve everything here at once, the district police will certainly be grateful."
Despite being a young woman, she could smile while delivering sharp insights. Behind her back, Zhang Yao cast her an appreciative glance but maintained a cheerful facade. "The pressure isn't too great; we'll do our best."
Wang Yao and the others understood that they needed to crack a few cases since they would be staying for a day; it wouldn't do to leave without any leads. "Don't worry, Captain Zhang; we won't let you down," Wang Yao assured him as he began reviewing his materials.
In the meeting room, aside from Zheng Yunyin and Zhang Yao, Lin Yuan was the only one who hadn't started working yet; several cases were laid out before him. Although Lin Yuan wasn't a professional, he still needed to contribute.
Zheng Yunyin approached Lin Yuan to give him a brief overview of the cases. It was clear they wouldn't be able to cover everything in detail. "Most of these cases have several suspects who were previously detained for some time but were released due to lack of evidence," she explained. She wasn't intentionally giving Lin Yuan an easy time; it was just convenient for her to share this information.
After finishing, Lin Yuan naturally knew that Zheng Yun was talking while pulling out her phone to check what food was available. Others might think Lin Yuan was taking notes, but Zheng Yun could see clearly and was momentarily speechless. They were all here discussing the case, and he was already thinking about what to have for lunch?
After a few minutes of silence from Zheng Yun, Lin Yuan looked up and tapped on a hamburger on his phone, glancing at her to see if she wanted one too. It was always nice to share a meal, and without any hesitation, Zheng Yun blinked in agreement.
Lin Yuan thought this female officer was quite easygoing. After pondering for a moment, he placed the order and then raised his head. "Have you all finished reviewing?"
A few people who had only skimmed through the case files emerged from their thoughts; they hadn’t expected this temporary consultant to be quicker than them. Seeing them all looking over, Lin Yuan didn’t hold back. "Can anyone explain the case?"
Zhang Yao, sitting nearby, nearly fell off his chair, staring at Lin Yuan in shock. Did he even realize who he was? How could he dare to ask like that?
Wang Yao had just finished reviewing the documents in front of him while the others were still going through theirs, so he met Lin Yuan's gaze. "You should have seen these cases before we arrived. If you have something to say, why don’t you go first?"
That wasn’t entirely incorrect. Lin Yuan replied without reservation, "If you don’t speak up, it’ll be awkward when I finish explaining."
"Finish?" Wang Yao thought incredulously. Could one person really cover so many cases? For the first time, he wondered if the head of their department had ingested something strange—how could someone like this serve as a consultant? Even as a temporary consultant, it seemed absurd.
"Then why don’t you tell us, Consultant Lin? Who are the suspects in these cases?" They weren’t trying to mock the local police force’s capabilities, but if everyone had Lin Yuan’s attitude, it was no wonder no cases were being solved. With such amateurish behavior, how could they crack a case? Did he think he was some great detective?
