They were indeed correct; Zhong Anguo would never reveal what he knew. However, that did not mean his son would remain silent.
By the time they returned to the police station, Zhong Wei was already waiting in the interrogation room. After just a few days at the station, his mental state had deteriorated.
"Is it you?" His eyes widened in surprise when he recognized Lin Yuan.
He hadn’t expected this.
But Lin Yuan had no time to engage in small talk. He looked at Zhong Wei and asked directly, "You should know how hard it is to get this job. Who is the other party?"
Zhong Wei, faced with such a blunt question, surprisingly felt less nervous. He glanced at the camera operating in the corner, as if he had pieced something together.
"It seems you've made a move against your police department. What? If you’re so capable, why don’t you investigate it yourselves? I don’t know anything."
Even with his hands cuffed, he maintained an arrogant demeanor.
"I advise you to think carefully about what you're saying. Your connection with them is already set in stone. Do you really think no one can investigate?" Lin Yuan's tone carried a warning.
Zhong Wei leaned slightly forward in his chair, a mocking smile spreading across his face as he confidently replied, "I told you, if your department really has what it takes, then go investigate yourselves."
"Are you trying to use these words to intimidate me? I'm not a child anymore."
"You need to understand that if we investigate, the charges against you will be far more than just a few."
Hearing this, Zhong Wei burst into laughter, tears almost forming in his eyes as he didn’t even bother to wipe them away.
After a while, he calmed down and pointed at himself before gesturing upwards. "My dad is waiting for me up there. Do you think I'm afraid of anything?"
He tilted his head, showing no fear of Lin Yuan sitting across from him.
"Can’t find it? How about this: I won’t contact your other captains. If you kneel and beg me, I’ll tell you the address. How does that sound?"
Lin Yuan stared at him for a long moment before finally realizing that without evidence, Zhong Wei wouldn’t open up.
"Fine."
Hearing this, Zheng Yunyin felt a rush of anxiety. How could she agree to such conditions?
Unexpectedly, Zhong Wei, who had posed the question, was momentarily taken aback, but he quickly broke into a smile. Just as he was settling in to watch Lin Yuan's performance, he saw Lin Yuan stand up with the documents from the table. This posture certainly didn’t suggest he was about to kneel.
Lin Yuan met his gaze with a cold smile. From now on, you won’t have the chance to speak.
Before Zhong Wei could fully grasp the meaning behind those words, Lin Yuan walked out.
Zheng Yunyin, standing at the door, hurried forward as she saw him emerge. Many of the recordings from Zhong Wei’s company had already been deliberately erased, and there were hardly any records left from his previous company; some had even been damaged. The technical staff at the police station couldn’t restore them. “Lin Yuan, why don’t you think of another way?”
After spending these past few days together, it was clear that Lin Yuan wasn’t a fool; they didn’t need to hang all their hopes on Zhong Wei alone. However, it was undeniable that this was indeed the best approach to take against him. Lin Yuan didn’t believe that someone like Zhong Wei would go to such lengths for his wife and children; after all, he was someone who could easily discard even his own father.
His calm demeanor suggested that the fire hadn’t yet reached him. “Lend me a computer from the tech department.”
Ten minutes later, several technicians stood behind Lin Yuan, watching as he skillfully typed in a series of codes. The reason they couldn’t access information from Zhong Wei’s company before was that their firewall had been violently breached; they simply couldn’t eliminate the chaos that followed.
“Zheng Yunyin, can this consultant we brought in really do it? Didn’t he study information technology?” A few people who had been in the tech department for quite some time whispered to Zheng Yunyin.
It wasn’t that they lacked confidence in their own team; it just seemed a bit desperate to rely on an outsider like this. How could Zheng Yunyin know how skilled he really was? Besides, Lin Yuan rarely spoke about his expertise during casual conversations.
However, one thing she was certain of was that every word Lin Yuan had said so far had been true. If he said he could do it, then he could.
The others exchanged curious glances at her; why did her tone convey such inexplicable trust?
As his fingers danced swiftly across the keyboard, the program was gradually being rearranged and rewritten. The initial codes that had suffered damage were now being restored at an astonishing speed. Yet, since Lin Yuan hadn’t spoken up and the technical staff’s skills were limited, they hadn’t yet realized this fact.
As the message was sent, a high-definition video appeared before their eyes.
What is this?
They exchanged shocked glances at the scene unfolding before them. The video displayed a conversation between Zhong Wei from the president's office and the opposing boss. Since the camera could also capture sound, they could hear what was being said.
Wait, how was this done?
The technical officers were left dumbfounded, unable to comprehend the situation. How much effort had this taken? It couldn’t have been less than half an hour, right?
From their expressions, even Zheng Yunyin, who was unaware of the difficulty of restoration, understood that Lin Yuan's skills were extraordinary.
At that moment, Lin Yuan's fingers didn’t stop moving. He needed to record everything else in the footage; besides this location, the surveillance from other areas was equally crucial. Their exchanges couldn’t possibly be limited to just this one instance.
“Are you asking me to kill someone? President Zhu, are you joking?”
In the video, Zhong Wei didn’t appear as calm as he did now; he swallowed hard, his face filled with panic, clearly showing how impactful those words were on him.
On the other side, President Zhu, a rotund man with a cigar in his mouth, replied nonchalantly, “If you think carrying those tens of millions in debt is no problem for you, then you can choose not to do it. I can still send you in.”
Tens of millions in debt?
Zheng Yunyin felt puzzled, but the video continued.
“That debt wasn’t taken by me! President Zhu, we agreed on this! The contract has my signature, but I’m not responsible for it!”
Everyone could see that he had been deceived. Unfortunately, the man opposite him had no intention of letting him off easily. President Zhu flicked his fingers and said, “Who can prove this? The fingerprints are yours; your name is on it too. What does that have to do with me?”
“President Zhu, I’ve worked so hard under you for so long; you can’t treat me like this.”
Clearly, at that moment, Zhong Wei was on the verge of breaking down.
“But killing someone isn’t like slaughtering a pig or some livestock!”
