In the hospital room, the morning of the next day arrived slowly. The person lying in bed began to awaken. At this moment, the nurse had not yet come to check on him. His wrists and legs had lost most of their sensation, likely due to the effects of the anesthetic. He licked his upper teeth, realizing that the poison he had administered was no longer present.
After quietly staring at the ceiling for a moment, he propped himself up with the hand that still had some mobility. For an ordinary person, waking up this early after receiving anesthesia would be unusual, but his body was different from others.
He removed the IV needle from his arm, and beads of blood immediately appeared on his skin. This was a private room; there was no way they would leave any sharp or dangerous objects within reach. Given his current physical condition, even getting out of bed was a challenge.
Fortunately, there was a clock visible. Two hours left.
Looking at the sky outside that had yet to brighten, he slowly used the needle to pierce his own artery, once and then again.
By the time news of a death in the hospital reached Lin Yuan, it was already nine-thirty in the morning. Bai Ling's tone on the other end of the phone was grave. "The person they sent over shows their determination to kill you. What are you planning to do?"
Coincidentally, Lin Yuan had also intended to discuss this matter with him. Bai Ling had only slept three or four hours last night, and Lin Yuan was no different.
He glanced at several addresses he had found and said, "It's simple; as long as there are no more of them in the sea..."
"Do we still have some manpower at the police station? Can I borrow some?"
There was no need to elaborate on the district's police force; they had wrapped up early last night. If they needed to dispatch officers now, there should be enough available.
The main issue remained: what did Lin Yuan want to do? On the other end of the line, Lin Yuan merely said he would discuss it further once he got to the police station. After thinking it over, Bai Ling felt something was off and called Team Leader Zhang from the district.
When Zhang answered the phone, he sounded quite cheerful. "The people I sent over are good, right?"
"Very good! I almost wanted to bring him over myself."
"Hahaha! If you could manage that, letting him come over wouldn't be a problem."
"I have to ask you—Is Lin Yuan an impulsive person?"
This question caught Zhang off guard.
What does this mean?
We've known each other for a few years now, and you should be aware of the organization called Red Blood. They sent someone to kill Lin Yuan last night, and by morning, the person was dead.
This isn't the first or second assassination attempt on Lin Yuan, so Zhang Yao didn't think much of it at the time. However, the fact that Lin Yuan intended to involve the police piqued his interest.
Does that mean he wants to retaliate?
Bai Ling's tone was helpless. The police also hoped these people would completely disappear into the sea, but that would waste too many resources and be counterproductive. There was no guarantee that those who caught wind of it wouldn't privately engage in other activities.
If Lin Yuan could provide accurate information, the police could take action; otherwise, mere talk and impulsiveness were unnecessary.
I can assure you that Lin Yuan is definitely not someone who acts impulsively, and he is discreet enough. When he truly says he wants to use police resources, you should consider that he might have some information. Zhang Yao hadn't known him for long, but he was certain of this point.
But the question is, is information from Red Blood so easily obtainable?
No way!
This thought lingered in Bai Ling's mind even after hanging up the phone.
When Lin Yuan arrived at the office, he saw several officers waiting for him. He had only a few addresses to check—just three in total. These were based on the location found from a phone left behind at the scene; without that phone, he would have had to put in much more effort, like staying up all night reviewing surveillance footage.
"Are you so sure they are here?"
Lin Yuan didn't waste words and handed over the three addresses. Bai Ling furrowed his brow as he sat in his chair. He knew that Red Blood members usually operated individually and rarely gathered together, but these locations were too conspicuous: a hospital, a supermarket, and the only less obvious one—a cyber café. How could Lin Yuan be sure they were staying there long-term?
"I checked these three places before coming; the addresses are correct. They should be at one of those locations. Additionally, I found out that one of them ordered takeout, and I've got the phone number."
Is this how little they think of our police? They even dare to order takeout?
It should be noted that these individuals are currently wanted.
Well, you can rest assured about these people; they have all been transferred from the Criminal Investigation Division. At this point, if we don’t let them go, it would be quite embarrassing for them.
The other members of the Criminal Investigation team also stood up, curious about the new consultant at their police station. It seemed that previous consultants had never gone this far.
Lin Yuan looked at the several men who were considerably stronger than him and felt a bit more at ease. However, he knew that the suspects might have weapons, and it was crucial to subdue them all at once to avoid causing a huge commotion.
Since the three locations were somewhat distant from each other, the police station could only deploy two vehicles. Lin Yuan temporarily borrowed a motorcycle.
"Can you manage going alone, Consultant Lin?"
The three of them formed a team, and seeing Lin Yuan's slender arms and legs made them a bit worried that a wanted criminal might overpower him.
Lin Yuan gestured for one of them to punch him as a test. One of the Criminal Investigation team members hesitated for a moment before throwing a punch.
The heavy force seemed to be intercepted by something; he met Lin Yuan's smiling face head-on, surprise evident on his features.
He hadn’t held back much with his strength—how did he manage to catch it?
"I didn’t expect you to be so young and trained. We'll head over first. If anything happens over there, remember to call."
The location Lin Yuan was heading to was the furthest away, but once they finished here, they could reach him quickly for support.
After exchanging some words, Lin Yuan rode off on the delivery motorcycle.
Bai Ling, watching from the window, said nothing. The officer beside her spoke up:
"Are we really letting him go alone? What if they have guns?"
"I gave him a gun. Besides, if those people really had firearms and were lingering in these areas, there would definitely be reports from the crowd."
Bai Ling was relatively confident about this point.
The officer fell silent; indeed, if it were him in that situation, even if there were weapons, he would find a place to hide first rather than go into a crowded area. As for Lin Yuan's combat ability, from what he had just seen, there was no need for concern.
