When he was taken away in the police car, he kept muttering that this was impossible, but no one paid him any mind.
Lin Yuan had been too focused on the reactions of others until now, when he finally had time to look at the bomb that Zheng Rufeng held in his hands. He was not unfamiliar with its shape.
"Captain Zheng, how did you manage this?"
The things they learned in the criminal space were basically top-notch in the industry; it shouldn't have been so easy for someone to dismantle it.
Seeing that Lin Yuan finally held some admiration and curiosity towards him, Zheng Rufeng felt a swell of pride in his heart.
"I've been a veteran detective for many years. Do you really think I could become the captain of this criminal investigation team just because of my experience? Let's not even mention anything else—no one understands bombs better than I do."
A faint sense of pride adorned his face.
This made Lin Yuan momentarily dazed; had he overestimated the capabilities of these people?
"Captain, it looks like there's an invisible camera here."
A police officer pulled out a small mechanical device with a clip from the man's jacket pocket, which clearly had something resembling a camera on it.
"Can it access the internet?"
"It seems to be operational; it should be broadcasting in real-time."
Upon hearing this, Lin Yuan stepped forward and took the device into his hands. After examining it for a while, he spoke up.
"Don't worry, you'll get your turn soon."
On the other side, seeing Lin Yuan's expression, Mr. Fang was so furious that he crushed his wine glass. Blood mixed with the cheap scent of alcohol filled the living room.
The butler stood silently to one side without saying a word.
Lin Yuan had never imagined that someone among them would be caught, and so quickly at that. How long had it been? Was it even half a year?
"Sir wants you to go over because of some company contract shares issue; what do you think?"
The butler received the message and glanced at him before speaking.
No matter how angry Mr. Fang was about company matters, he would never show it outwardly.
"What’s going on?"
"We had a contract that was about to expire without renewal; the other party was going to cut ties because there seems to be foreign investment ready to come in."
"Foreign?"
Mr. Fang keenly sensed something was off.
"Where is this funding coming from?"
"It seems to be from Walton Company overseas. I've already checked for you, Young Master; they are a pharmaceutical manufacturer with ownership of most pharmaceuticals in that region."
The profits from domestic pharmaceuticals are high, not to mention the hefty export taxes. Ordinary people can't even begin to fathom how immense that wealth is. Mr. Fang calmed himself and sat down; after all, he had only lost two people—something he had anticipated all along.
"Tell him I'm on my way," he said.
"Also, please pick someone up from the northern suburbs. That's where the Azure Serpent is located."
"Don't think he's just indulging in pleasures. If he weren't secretly orchestrating things, how could all these people gather here? Even if it's for himself, there needs to be a beginning and an end."
The Azure Serpent's location was extremely concealed. After receiving a massive sum of money from Mr. Fang, he found a place for himself. That was the desolate area in the southern part of the city. He built a factory under someone else's name, but in reality, there were only a few security guards patrolling outside each day; no one was inside.
When the door to the Azure Serpent's room was knocked on, he pulled out a handgun from behind his back. No one had informed him that someone was coming to find him.
"Mr. Azure Serpent, our boss wants you to come over."
Peering through the thick steel door frame, the Azure Serpent narrowed his eyes. Few people knew his location.
"And your boss is?"
"Mr. Fang."
Inside the police station, the man who had been captured sat silently in front of the interrogation room, showing no intention of speaking. The eyes of those around him were filled with stillness. This was not how a captured criminal should behave.
"What do you think?" Zheng Rufeng turned to Lin Yuan.
"Still not saying anything?"
"We've already tried both soft and hard approaches, but he seems unwilling to say anything. We've checked his files; he's from abroad."
"Another one from overseas," Lin Yuan frowned. He felt something was off about this situation. If it were just one or two people, it might be understandable, but these individuals were all linked to foreign partners.
"Has there been any movement from Shangguan Yao?"
"Huh? Haven't you been keeping an eye on her?"
"Has Zheng Rufeng sent anyone to stake her out?"
"If not, then forget it."
Glancing into the interrogation room, Lin Yuan already knew that this man would not speak again. People like him usually had a death wish; he could see no hope for life in his eyes. It would be better to resolve this sooner rather than later.
After saying that, he left. The officers behind him felt somewhat frustrated.
"Is this really happening? Are they going to lock him up? This person is bold enough to come right in front of us, so he must know something. Aren't we going to interrogate him further?"
Given the significant impact during this time, it wouldn't be surprising if they took some measures.
Zheng Rufeng's attention was drawn to the man's hair. It seemed a bit dark?
"Let's do as Lin Yuan suggested." He had encountered many criminals before, and this was the only one who could remain silent even when brought in.
The bomb had already been taken for research; it was a type never seen on the market before. If it weren't for Zheng Rufeng's extensive experience over the years, he might have felt helpless.
However, he believed his skills were top-notch. If Lin Yuan heard this, he wouldn't have any objections.
Even when the man was brought in, he didn't glance at anyone else.
When Zheng Rufeng stepped out, he saw his precious daughter, Zheng Yunyin, looking worried. Seeing him calmed her down considerably.
"Dad, can you not rush in like that at a time like this? Mom is almost going to come to the police station with a knife!"
A reporter had even broadcasted a live stream from the scene.
"If you want to die, just do it quickly," Zheng Rufeng thought to himself.
He knew there was a gamble involved this time and could only smile foolishly.
"Go tell your mom I'm fine, and I've already disarmed the bomb."
"We saw it on our phones. The police department will probably give you an award again. Was the target Lin Yuan?"
"Yeah, I really don't know what secret he has."
It was evident to everyone that Lin Yuan was not just an ordinary delivery worker given the series of actions against him.
Zheng Rufeng's biggest guess was whether Lin Yuan had inadvertently obtained some information or clues that made so many people target him.
"Just let it go, Dad. Don't worry about him," Zheng Yunyin said.
"The area is so chaotic right now; it's hard to tell what's good or bad."
