After the investigation results came out, it was confirmed that Lin Muzhi was indeed the one driving. They found that the car had just left a bar, which meant that he was likely driving under the influence.
The man hesitated upon seeing this result. "So you police should be able to bring him over, right? I'll be waiting here; I even have the injury report with me."
"Of course, we can do that. We've already sent someone to get him," Jiang Jinchuan replied. As he spoke, he glanced over at Lin Yuan, thinking it would be a good opportunity to see what was going on. What more could there be to this situation? Worst case, they would just have to pay some money.
On the other side, Lin's family seemed a bit out of the loop when they received the call. However, after hearing the police request for them to come over, they agreed.
Lin Yuan sat in a chair, feeling awkward doing nothing. He found a computer and began looking up information about Shangguan Yao. There were quite a few connections with domestic affairs, and she had managed to uncover almost everything that could be investigated.
When Lin's family arrived, they happened to spot Lin Yuan. To his surprise, there were quite a few people who came along this time. Two pairs of individuals who looked like couples and another man and woman accompanied them. The man bore a slight resemblance to Lin Yuan, while the woman was dressed elegantly, her eyes carrying a hint of disdain and mischief.
"Officer, is there something going on here?" one of the couples approached, their expressions somewhat tense.
The man sitting in the chair stood up abruptly upon seeing Lin Muzhi, reverting back to his previous fierce demeanor. "You're the one who hit me, right?! And now you're making me come here to wrongfully accuse others! Don’t think you can act tough just because there are more of you. I have brothers too; if we can talk it out reasonably, let's do that. If not, then no one should blame anyone!"
After this outburst, Lin's family members looked rather displeased.
"Sir, please speak with some respect. Our Lin family is not some small-time household; we will certainly compensate as needed."
Hearing this made the man feel somewhat relieved. "Then…"
He sized up everyone before making his demands. "Just give me ten thousand, and we'll consider this matter settled. Not too much, right?"
This amount was several thousand more than what had been mentioned earlier. Lin Yuan looked at him in disbelief; did he really think they were easy targets? As expected, Lin's family members were not pleased with this proposition.
"Is that so? How about this: we'll take over the criminal lawsuit and conveniently file a charge of extortion against you as well.
Uh, I'm just saying this; it's fine if you don't agree. It's not every day that a rich person gets into an accident like this. The man is just thinking about whether he can squeeze out some money from it. If he can't get anything, then so be it.
Alright, everyone, let's head to the mediation room for negotiations. Our officers will be present as well."
As Jiang Jinchuan spoke, the attention of the others shifted towards him. It was then that they noticed Lin Yuan, who was intensely focused on his computer screen.
Isn't this a bit too similar?
The members of the Lin family all turned their gazes towards Lin Muzhi. He clearly hadn't expected to see anyone here, and a flicker of guilt crossed his eyes.
"What are you looking at? Let's go."
He wanted to brush this matter aside; after all, there were plenty of people in the world who looked alike.
Meanwhile, another couple ignored his comment and approached Lin Yuan.
"Hey there, young man, what brings you to the police station?"
The couple had kind expressions but still carried a hint of caution.
Hearing their voice, Lin Yuan looked up and heard one of them say, "You really do look remarkably similar."
"You should resolve your case first before discussing matters between us," Lin Yuan replied while continuing his work on the computer.
Upon hearing this, the couple hesitated for a moment before looking at the other couple and saying, "This incident only concerns Muzhi. We can't really help out anyway; we just happened to come by to take a look. Why don't we wait outside instead?"
With that suggestion, the other couple had no grounds to refuse.
"Alright then, we'll head in first."
The couple still kept an eye on Lin Yuan but couldn't afford to delay their own son's situation. Once they entered, they noticed there was still an empty seat near Lin Yuan and decided to sit down.
Lin Yuan's computer screen wasn't equipped with privacy filters; it was just a regular computer taken from the police station. He was merely checking some information—nothing too sensitive.
"Are you looking for information on the Shangguan family?"
The voice from beside him piqued Lin Yuan's interest, prompting him to glance over. The two couples appeared friendly and approachable.
"We have a bit of collaboration with the Shangguan family. If there's anything we can help with, feel free to ask us," they said.
Lin Yuan had a few questions after hearing this. "When did you start collaborating with them? What relevant contracts do you know about?"
Surprised by Lin Yuan's curiosity, the man thought for a moment before responding. "Most of their industry is related to medical equipment, so the contracts are primarily in the pharmaceutical field. Besides collaborating with us, they also work with the Zhu family. They have quite a few relevant devices that meet international standards. However, we mainly focus on components."
"Pharmaceutical?" Lin Yuan pondered over the term. This was indeed closely related to Shangguan Yao's visit; if they were carrying medications, it would make passing through customs easier. At least, they wouldn't be as thorough in their inspections as with others.
"If you want to know more about this, we can share information, but could you agree to one condition?" As he spoke, Lin Yuan had already guessed what their condition might be.
"Go ahead."
"Even if we don’t say it outright, you should be able to tell that Lin Muzhi is our nephew. You look quite similar to him; could we ask you to do a paternity test?"
"I'll handle matters concerning the Shangguan family myself. As for the paternity test, let's skip that; I don't like getting involved with relatives for no reason," Lin Yuan coldly refused.
A few days ago, he might have agreed, but now that he had grown up, even if someone genuine came looking for him, he wouldn't want to face such situations.
"Why not reconsider? Even if it doesn't matter, we can offer you a reward on behalf of the Lin family."
Lin Yuan stood up and spoke, cutting off their follow-up remarks. "I'm an orphan; I earn my own living expenses and don't need this reward, thank you." Moreover, he was currently a consultant at the police station and wouldn’t be leaving anytime soon—his situation was quite stable.
