"Scoundrel!"
After Lin Yuan left, the man could hardly control himself and threw his clothes onto the ground, venting his frustration and fury. His actions startled both his wife and child.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
"Get away from me! Don't touch me!"
The other officers frowned, and someone went over to warn him. The man picked up his clothes from the floor, his face dark as he led them back.
It was either to be honest or to wait for an inevitable conclusion; he had to choose one.
Shangguan Yao had originally planned to stay in Hai for no more than a week, but due to unexpected circumstances, she almost lost track of time. The contract was signed, but for the past few days, she had been following Zhou Xuan around.
The weather remained the same.
"This is my last chance to stay in Hai. There’s no need to discuss anything else; we should keep things as they were before."
That meant communicating directly with Qing She.
Zhou Xuan nodded.
"Indeed."
He shared the same thought; it wouldn’t be good if this woman discovered his identity and held it against him. Previously, they had visited a bar where several undercover officers had already arrived at the entrance. They confirmed that the female bartender was inside.
After showing their identification, they quickly took control of the woman.
Perhaps there were accomplices still inside the bar; a suspect was caught at the back door.
"Let me go! I haven’t done anything wrong! Why are you arresting me?!"
The woman brought out from the bar didn’t feel she had done anything wrong; perhaps she hadn’t even realized her identity had been exposed. Having been here for so many years, how could she think her cover would be blown just like that?
"We won’t arrest you without evidence. Be honest!"
After saying this, they began to search her.
Before long, they found a mobile phone on her. The phone hadn’t made any calls yet, meaning no one had been notified on the other end.
"That’s my phone! Give it back!"
Meanwhile, Zhou Xuan continued to engage in small talk.
"I hope once we get abroad, we can still communicate so pleasantly. The Shangguan family isn’t as unrefined as rumored."
The two of them sitting together did seem like a match made in heaven, and Shangguan Yao smiled lightly.
"I initially thought everyone here prioritized profit above all else; you’re quite different from what I imagined."
"Likewise."
Both harbored their own hidden agendas.
I have a flight at two this afternoon. If we delay any longer, it might be too late.
Shangguan Yao winked at him; after all, she was still young, and such a gesture felt completely natural. Zhou Xuan sighed, thinking that it was no wonder Shangguan family members always seemed to have multiple faces.
But he was the same way.
"Then I won't see you off," he said. "We can chat when you're abroad."
Just as they were about to push the door open, Zhou Xuan's phone in his pocket rang. Who would be calling him at this time? Before he could answer, the door swung open from the outside.
Shangguan Yao hadn’t expected anyone to appear at the door. When she looked up, she saw a rather familiar face.
"Miss Shangguan, right?"
"I am. Is Lin Xian here to investigate again?"
Standing outside, Lin Yuan smiled and gestured toward Zhou Xuan, who was standing quietly beside him.
"Sort of. But mainly I'm looking for him. I believe Miss Shangguan has heard of the figure known as Qing She."
Initially shocked, both of them quickly masked their emotions with feigned calmness. Shangguan Yao hadn’t realized that the man before her was Qing She. Why had he deceived her? Was he afraid she would spill the beans?
Qing She wondered how his identity had been discovered.
"Officer, please don’t make baseless accusations. I don’t know anyone named Qing She; it’s wrong to slander people."
With President Fang not present, seeking help was nearly impossible now. Lin Yuan noticed the subtle movements of fingers pressing buttons in Zhou Xuan's pocket.
"You’ll find out if you go to the police station," he said. "But before that, you two bodyguards will have to come along too."
At this point, Shangguan Yao's expression changed.
She had hired these notorious mercenaries from abroad; bringing them back to the country should have been avoided. However, she thought that locals weren’t reliable enough and chose otherwise. If they were taken to the police station like this, it would definitely cause trouble.
"Can I at least call my family?" she asked.
"No," Lin Yuan replied firmly, revealing his firearm.
With no other options left, both of them followed Lin Yuan into the car.
They were separated and didn’t sit together; Zhou Xuan was in one car with Lin Yuan. The atmosphere inside was somewhat tense and quiet. It would take about ten more minutes to reach the scenic area, so Lin Yuan felt he should initiate some conversation.
"Don’t you find it strange that I found you?"
Zhou Xuan didn’t plan to reveal his identity just yet and replied:
"Officer, I truly don't understand what you're saying. If there's any issue, please contact my lawyer."
"How do you know I'm an officer and not just pretending?"
"If someone can come here openly with a group of people, they must be the police, right?"
This excuse was somewhat forced, but it was plausible enough.
Lin Yuan shrugged.
"Alright, then how do you explain your company's funds and the places you've lived? Only the Green Snake knows those locations."
"I've always lived near the company and have never been to those places you mentioned."
Even though Zhou Xuan suspected that Lin Yuan might be deceiving him, a hint of doubt crept into his mind. Did the system grant him some other skills?
"Once we get to the police station, I want to see how tough you really are," Zhou Xuan said.
Lin Yuan smiled but fell silent afterward.
This attitude only made Zhou Xuan feel more anxious. After the information was sent out, his phone was confiscated. A strange message might attract attention, but no one knew what it meant. The important question was whether President Fang would come to his rescue.
He was different from that butterfly, wasn't he? Even he wasn't entirely sure about that.
At the Lin family residence.
Slap!
A loud slap echoed as Old Master Lin struck out with his hand. If his grandson's actions had already put him in a bad mood, now he was furious.
"You used my grandson to swindle me out of money?! If I had known this earlier, I would have kicked you out of the family and severed our father-son relationship!"
What kind of person could use their own son as a bargaining chip?
The man who had been slapped knelt on the ground, clenching his fists tightly. He had to endure; otherwise, if his father spoke in anger, he would lose everything and end up with nowhere to go.
"Dad, I was blinded by greed. I was wrong!"
