"Old Master, should we go look for him?"
When Qin Huairu heard that Shazhu hadn’t gone to work, her first thought was whether he would have his lunchbox today. However, being the clever person she was, she wouldn’t directly ask about the lunchbox. Instead, she feigned concern and asked if they should find Shazhu.
"Let’s not go looking just yet. I’ll ask the others in the courtyard if they’ve seen him," Yi Zhonghai said. Just then, they heard Shazhu's voice: "Old Master, who are you asking about in the courtyard?"
Seeing Shazhu walk in, Yi Zhonghai asked, "Shazhu, what’s going on? Why didn’t you go to work today? Even Ren from the cafeteria is angry!"
"Let him be angry; what does that have to do with me?" Shazhu replied dismissively, showing his disdain for Ren.
"Shazhu! Have you lost your mind again? Quickly tell me why you didn’t go to work! Where have you been all day?"
Seeing Yi Zhonghai’s serious expression, Shazhu finally spoke up: "Well, Old Master, it’s not like I wanted this to happen. This morning, I had just walked a short distance out of our compound when I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my head and fainted!"
"When I woke up, it felt like someone was stirring my brain with a stick. I couldn’t take it anymore and went to the hospital! I just got back after getting a painkiller."
Yi Zhonghai looked at Shazhu and asked, "You fainted from a headache? Did you offend someone and get knocked out? Did you see anyone?"
Shazhu thought for a moment and shook his head. "Old Master, it shouldn’t be from someone hitting me. I was alone on the road. If I had offended someone, I had just come from Wang Jiefang’s house. How could a blind man hit me? Besides, Xu Damao was riding his bike ahead of me."
"I see," Yi Zhonghai nodded after listening to Shazhu's explanation.
Just then, Jia Zhangshi rushed out of the house upon hearing Yi Zhonghai's voice. "Old Yi! You’re the Old Master of our courtyard! That old woman from the Wang family hit me; you have to do something about it!"
Before Yi Zhonghai could respond, Shazhu couldn’t help but interject upon seeing Jia Zhangshi: "Wow! Jia Dama, you’ve gotten even fatter since I last saw you! What have you been eating?"
"I’ll eat your grandmother’s leg! Shazhu, how can you talk like that? Didn’t you hear what I just said? I got hit!"
Jia Zhangshi scolded Shazhu angrily. Afterward, she turned back to him and asked, "By the way, where’s your lunchbox?"
Shazhu was slightly annoyed by her scolding. It was just a joke; did it really warrant such anger? He rolled his eyes and replied, "I don’t have a lunchbox today; I haven’t eaten yet!"
Seeing that the two were about to argue, Yi Zhonghai quickly intervened: "Alright, both of you should calm down!"
"Sister Jia, can you explain why that old woman from the Wang family hit you?"
Jia Zhangshi replied confidently, "It’s because I saw that blind man outside today. As an elder in the courtyard, I went over to show concern for him. That old woman came at me like a madwoman and hit me! If it weren’t for her being a war widow, I would have taught her a lesson!"
Yi Zhonghai didn’t fully believe Jia Zhangshi’s words; he knew her too well and suspected she had instigated the situation first. However, it didn’t matter; in this courtyard, he called the shots. This was a good opportunity to hold a meeting and reprimand the Wang family!
Yesterday, Wang Jiefang had hit Shazhu while he tried to mediate; Wang Jiefang even dared to talk back to him—this was not acceptable!
