"Mother-in-law, Wang Jiefang won't give us any meat!"
Thinking of the last time they asked for meat, Qin Huairu couldn't help but smile bitterly. Why wouldn't he give it? She had heard that the blind man brought two pounds of meat for the leaders' banquet. Could his family finish it all? Their family was struggling so much, and Si Geng was in dire need of nutrition right now. He should at least give them a pound of meat to help Si Geng recover!
"Just go! If he dares not to give you meat, I will make a scene at his house!"
With her mother-in-law saying this, Qin Huairu could only take the begging bowl and head out. It wasn't just Si Geng who craved meat; she, Qin Huairu, wanted it too!
Qin Huairu arrived just in time; Wang Jiefang had just taken the meat off the stove when she got there.
"Jiefang, I have a favor to ask!"
Wang Jiefang shuddered at the sound of Qin Huairu's voice. He quickly waved his hand to interrupt her. "Sister-in-law Qin, can I ask you to speak normally?"
Qin Huairu's eyes lit up. He needed something from her? That would make it easier for her to ask for meat!
"What do you need me to do? I’ll definitely help you!"
Wang Jiefang looked like he was about to be sick. "Can you please just talk normally? Look at your age and how you're speaking like this. It's disgusting!"
As Qin Huairu carried such a large bowl from the courtyard to the front yard, many people saw her along the way. They all knew why she was there and peeked out to see what was happening. If Qin Huairu really managed to get some meat, they wouldn't mind borrowing some from Wang Jiefang too.
Hearing Wang Jiefang's comments about her tone, they couldn't help but think that she sounded overly dramatic.
Qin Huairu's face stiffened at Wang Jiefang's words. After a moment, she spoke again, this time in a more normal tone: "Jiefang, you're joking! Look at all this braised pork you have here; can you lend me half? You know Si Geng was injured and hospitalized recently—he really needs nutrition right now."
As she said this, Qin Huairu wiped away a tear. "It's all my fault as a mother; when my son needed nutrition the most, all I could give him was some thin porridge!"
"Please, just lend me some meat! I promise I'll repay you later!"
Qin Huairu thought that after saying something so pitiful, Wang Jiefang would surely lend her some meat. To her surprise, he coldly replied, "This meat is for my wife; it's not for lending out!"
"If your Si Geng is lacking nutrition, go find Shazhu! I remember he was the one who injured him, right? You should be asking him!"
Hearing Wang Jiefang's words made Qin Huairu furious. If she could find Shazhu, would she even be here asking you? It wasn't Shazhu's fault that his leg was broken; he couldn't even go to work now, let alone give her any meat!
Despite having thick skin, Qin Huairu ignored Wang Jiefang's words and continued: "Jiefang, I heard you brought two pounds of meat today. It looks like there's only one pound here. Since this meat is for your wife, how about this: you give me the remaining pound and I'll cook it myself!"
The onlookers were stunned; Qin Huairu was really bold to ask for a whole pound of meat outright! They felt ashamed of their own lack of shamelessness compared to her.
At this point, Wang Jiefang couldn't be bothered with her anymore and simply coldly replied with a single word: "Get lost!"
