Wang Jiefang initially thought that Director Wang would praise him, but to his surprise, Director Wang's expression changed, and she grabbed his ear. "You little rascal, you've learned some skills, huh? You know they're enemy agents, yet you still dared to follow them!"
"Goodness! You actually followed them through eight alleys. Why didn't you just follow them home? If something happens to you, what will your grandmother and Yuwei do?"
Wang Jiefang held onto Director Wang's hand that was pinching his ear and exclaimed, "Ouch, Aunt Wang, that hurts! I was just in a hurry! If I didn't follow him, how would I find him later? What if they were planning something big? That would be a disaster!"
Director Wang released her grip on his ear. "I didn't even use much strength; why are you shouting in pain? Remember this: don't be so reckless in the future. If something happens, you should tell me or the police station immediately!"
"Got it, Aunt Wang! I promise I won't do this again!"
Director Wang glanced at him, unsure whether to believe his words. She sighed helplessly before scolding him again. "I can't believe these enemy agents have managed to hide right under my nose! They really don't take me seriously!"
Although Director Wang was a woman, she had been on the battlefield and wouldn't tolerate any nonsense. Wang Jiefang informed her that the enemy agent's final address was right across from the street office, less than a hundred meters away. If that wasn't right under her nose, then what was?
These enemy agents were quite clever; living there allowed them to operate under the radar while keeping an eye on the street office's every move. One had to admit they had some guts!
Director Wang picked up the phone to call the police station but then put it down again. "Jiefang, come with me to the police station. We need to clarify this matter in person!"
Wang Jiefang followed Director Wang to the police station. As soon as they arrived, they found the courtyard crowded with people. When Director Zhang saw Director Wang arrive, he rushed over. "Director Wang, your sources are too good! We just caught a wild boar, and here you are!"
Then he noticed Wang Jiefang. Normally he wouldn't wear sunglasses when out and about; his eyes were too recognizable. Director Zhang paused for a moment before continuing with Director Wang. "Director Wang, quickly tell us who our informant is! We were just discussing whether to ask Master Wang from your street office for help with this wild boar when you showed up with someone!"
Director Wang was a bit confused. "What are you talking about, Old Zhang? I brought Xiao Wang here for serious business. By the way, doesn't your station have a cook? Why do you need Xiao Wang?"
Director Zhang sighed. "Oh, don’t mention Old Qian; he's just a second-rate cook from the army's kitchen brigade. His skills are all military-style—edible but not exactly gourmet!"
"We finally got our hands on a pig; we can't let him ruin it! Master Wang from your street office is famous for his cooking; we just wanted to invite him to help out!"
Old Qian glared at Director Zhang angrily. "You old rascal! You've eaten my cooking so many times without complaint, but now that you've met someone who cooks better, you start criticizing me? If you're so good at it, then stop eating my food!"
Director Zhang and Old Qian were comrades who had fought together; they were used to joking around with each other. Hearing Old Qian's words, Director Zhang retorted directly, "Do you think I enjoy eating your cooking? If our station had a chef like Master Wang, I wouldn't touch your food with a ten-foot pole!"
At this point, Director Zhang grinned widely. "By the way, Master Wang, would you be interested in being our head chef at the police station? I guarantee the pay will be just as good as what the street office offers!"
