Shazhu had a way of speaking that rubbed people the wrong way, and the local cooks didn’t think much of him either!
Today was Sunday, and everyone in the compound was at home resting. Shazhu’s words were clearly heard by the Yan family. Yan Jiefang rushed out to ask Shazhu, “Shazhu, what did you just say? Wang Xiezi’s chef certificate was revoked?”
“Of course! Let me tell you, Yan Jiefang, it was your Shazhu who took action. Look, I just made a little move, and poof! The blind chef’s certificate is gone. Didn’t he say he was looking for a job? Now he has no certificate; I wonder if the street office will still want him!”
Hearing Yan Jiefang's question, Shazhu couldn’t wait to flaunt his achievements!
“Really? That’s great! Let that blind man show off all day! How can a blind man earn over ten yuan a month?” Yan Jiefang exclaimed excitedly.
“What? That blind man earns over ten yuan? On what basis? You know I’m the head chef at the steel mill, and I only make thirty-seven yuan a month! If I had known earlier, I would have reported this fraud sooner!”
With Shazhu and the Yan family spreading the word, news of Wang Jiefang's chef certificate being revoked quickly spread throughout the compound!
Wang Jiefang and Sun Yuwei returned home with groceries, only to have their grandmother take them away: “Grandma has already eaten; we’ll save this for dinner tonight!”
The two could only watch as their grandmother put the groceries away; there was nothing they could do about it!
After sitting down, Sun Yuwei began recounting Wang Jiefang’s assessment process to her grandmother. Just as she finished speaking, there was a knock at the door!
“Uncle? What brings you here?” She opened the door to find Yi Zhonghai standing outside, with others from the compound behind him.
“I heard that your chef certificate was revoked?” Yi Zhonghai asked Wang Jiefang directly, clearly not believing that Wang Jiefang couldn’t see the smirk on his face.
“What does it have to do with you?”
Wang Jiefang wasn’t polite and shot back immediately!
Yi Zhonghai had been skeptical at first, but seeing Wang Jiefang’s evasive response made him believe Shazhu’s words were true!
Clearing his throat, Yi Zhonghai spoke up: “Wang Jiefang, that’s not right. I’m the elder of this compound; how can this matter concerning our young people not involve me?”
“Oh really? You’re such a great elder. If you want to help the young people in our compound, go ahead and do it yourself! Why come looking for me?”
Faced with Wang Jiefang's sarcastic remarks, Yi Zhonghai felt like slapping him to teach this blind man how to speak to an elder like himself!
But for his own interests, he couldn’t act out. Yi Zhonghai pretended not to hear Wang Jiefang’s words and continued: “Since your chef certificate is gone, you won’t be able to keep your job either. How about you voluntarily give it up for our young people in the compound?”
“Haha! Not happening!” Wang Jiefang replied in the same tone.
