Hearing this, Factory Director Yang understood that Director Zhou had agreed to come again next time.
One might think that since Director Zhou was just a department head and Factory Director Yang was the head of a large factory, he shouldn't need to curry favor with a mere department head.
In theory, that was correct. However, Director Zhou was the head of the supervisory department for the steel mill, and all budgets and material allocations for the mill had to be approved by him! If he were offended, he could easily find an excuse to make things difficult for them at a critical moment.
When Factory Director Yang entered the kitchen, he found Shazhu sitting on a chair drinking tea while his apprentice stood in front of him. "Master, thank you! Otherwise, I wouldn't know what to do!"
"Come on, it's not a big deal. Your master's skills are top-notch; Factory Director Yang won't hold it against me," Shazhu replied dismissively.
Seeing Shazhu's nonchalant attitude made Factory Director Yang's anger flare up again. "Shazhu! Is this how you treat me? Do you have any idea how important today's guests are? I value you so much, yet at such a critical moment, you let me down!"
"If you couldn't handle it, why didn't you say so earlier? Look at the dishes you've prepared—what are they even? If you'd told me sooner, I could have hired another chef!"
Shazhu's stubbornness flared as he felt embarrassed in front of his apprentice. He retorted directly to Factory Director Yang, "Factory Director Yang, I only let my apprentice cook because I got injured! Do you really need to scold me like this? Besides, who in our factory can match my culinary skills?"
"Even if I told you I couldn't cook, would that stop you from calling someone else?" Factory Director Yang shot back.
When Shazhu heard Factory Director Yang mention a first-class chef, he immediately knew he was referring to Wang Jiefang. He slammed his teacup onto the counter and said defiantly, "Since you look down on me as an eighth-level chef, then fine! Go ahead and find your first-class chef!"
"Fine! Shazhu! You're something else!" Factory Director Yang knew Shazhu was quite reckless but didn't expect him to be this brazen. Furious, he turned and left.
It was quite embarrassing for a factory director to argue with a chef!
Ma Hua looked worriedly at Shazhu. "Master, you've angered the factory director. What are we going to do now?"
Shazhu scoffed dismissively. "So what if he's angry? He’s just a factory director; he can’t do anything to me. I'm a third-generation hired farmer!"
The other kitchen staff looked at Shazhu as if he were crazy. Was this guy really that foolish or just pretending? Offending Factory Director Yang like this would surely lead to trouble!
However, Shazhu showed no sign of concern about facing repercussions from Factory Director Yang. He continued his work in the kitchen as usual. Lunch passed quickly as everyone busied themselves cleaning up the aftermath when Qin Huairu gracefully entered the kitchen!
