The Deputy Minister stared at her for a moment before saying, "You all wait here."
He stepped out and found one of his subordinates to check on He Yuzhu's case file. He discovered that He Yuzhu was only involved in stealing ingredients from the factory. Although the amount was considerable, it was still considered a minor case in their supervisory department. If it weren't for Jia Zhang's loud complaint directly reported to them, they might not have even investigated He Yuzhu; at most, they would have handed over the report to the police for them to handle.
After reviewing the file, the Deputy Minister returned to his office and took the box of gold to the Minister's office.
"What brings such a busy man like you here?" Minister Li joked as he saw the Deputy Minister.
Upon noticing the box of gold in his arms, he exclaimed in surprise, "Old Hu, have you struck it rich? Where did you get so much gold?"
With a wry smile, Deputy Minister Hu replied, "Where else could I get it? Do you remember that chef who was reported today?"
"Yes, I do. What about him? Was this found in his house?" Minister Hu asked in astonishment.
"How could that be? Someone brought these gold bars as funding for us, with the condition that we release that chef!"
"Wow! Who would be so generous as to offer this much gold just to save a chef?" The Minister was even more surprised.
Deputy Minister Hu sighed and said, "You should know this person; she is the Dragon Concubine who once protected my father while serving that Prince!"
"Is it her? So today, our iron-faced judge is considering bending the rules?" Minister Hu teased.
The Deputy Minister's smile faded further as he said, "To be honest, Minister, while my father did risk his life to protect the Prince and thus repaid their kindness, I too was under their protection back then. Now that the Dragon Concubine has come to me..."
Seeing the Deputy Minister's conflicted expression, Minister Hu patted him on the shoulder and laughed heartily. "What’s there to be troubled about? Even if that chef ends up with the police, if handled well, he would only face restitution and fines!"
"If someone is willing to offer ten large fish for his protection, then let’s go with that! I believe that lady came here hoping to save that chef’s life so he can return and serve her again!"

"You rascal!" The Minister pointed at him with a grin. It dawned on him that Deputy Minister Hu was worried about being accused of favoritism and had come here to set things straight.
The Minister saw through it but chose not to expose him; after all, this subordinate had proven himself capable both in the military and in their current roles. It was important to maintain appearances!
