Qin Huairu discovered that Shazhu was actually avoiding her!
It was a Sunday, and everyone had the day off work. Qin Huairu finally cornered Shazhu in the house. "Shazhu! What do you mean by this? If you dislike me, just say it! I won't cling to you!"
Faced with the fierce Qin Huairu, Shazhu felt guilty. "It's not that, Qin Jie. How could I dislike you?"
Before Shazhu could finish, Qin Huairu continued, "Shazhu, I know my mother-in-law reported you, and that was wrong of her. But you also know I can't control my mother-in-law. You’ve been silent and avoiding me. Do you think I enjoy being ignored? I worried about you all night after hearing you were caught. Is this how you treat me?"
Shazhu felt even more guilty after hearing Qin Huairu's words. He lowered his head and spoke softly, "Qin Jie, I really didn't mean anything bad. I just feel like I can't help you anymore, and I'm embarrassed to see you."
The new leadership at the steel mill had taken their positions, and the new cafeteria director had just implemented a rule prohibiting anyone from taking food home, not even a single leaf of vegetable! If someone wanted to take food home, they had to pay for it! They were also encouraged to supervise each other, and if anyone was caught taking food without permission, the entire cafeteria staff would be punished!
The cafeteria director spoke these words while looking directly at Shazhu. Although he didn't say it outright, everyone understood he was addressing Shazhu.
After being caught before, Shazhu truly didn’t dare take anything from the cafeteria anymore!
Upon hearing Shazhu's words, Qin Huairu's eyes flickered. She began to consider whether she should continue to keep Shazhu around. Since he couldn't provide leftovers for her family anymore, his value had significantly decreased!
But then she remembered that Shazhu still earned around twenty yuan a month. Although it wasn't much, it was still money. Besides, finding someone as simple-minded as Shazhu wouldn’t be easy! It might be better to keep him around for now.
Qin Huairu put on an angry expression as she looked at Shazhu. "Shazhu, what do you take me for? Do you think I'm after your little bit of money? I believe you're the kindest person in this courtyard, which is why I'm willing to associate with you! When have you ever seen me pay attention to that selfish Wang Xiezi from the front yard?"
Unexpectedly, Shazhu viewed her this way. Qin Huairu felt truly disappointed in him. "Since that's how you see me, let's just pretend we don't know each other anymore!"
After saying this, Qin Huairu covered her mouth and turned to run away. Shazhu grabbed her arm and stammered, "Qin Jie, listen to me! I really don’t see you that way! You are the best woman in my eyes! How could I ever think of you like that?"
"Really? If that's how you see me, then I'm relieved," Qin Huairu said softly with red eyes. Her expression was shy and timid. Shazhu was taken aback; his mind went blank as he gazed at her with growing admiration.
Since Qin Huairu entered Shazhu's home, Jia Zhangshi had been watching them closely from her window. Seeing them pulling at each other made her unhappy; now she noticed Shazhu looking at her daughter-in-law with those sticky eyes!
Jia Zhangshi shouted out loud, "Qin Huairu! Where have you been? Have you finished your chores at home?"
Startled by the shout, Qin Huairu turned and ran home. "Shazhu, my mother-in-law is calling me! We'll talk later!"
Hearing Jia Zhangshi's scolding made Shazhu feel even more pity for Qin Huairu. "Sister Qin is really unfortunate to have such a wicked mother-in-law! Without my help, how will she get by?"
Yan Bugui was busy tending to his few pots of flowers; his foot was still in a cast and he couldn't go fishing either. At that moment, a young and beautiful girl parked her bicycle at the gate!
Hearing the noise outside, Yan Bugui peeked out and recognized the visitor. "Teacher Ran! What brings you here?"
