Qin Huairu awkwardly glanced at her cousin, unsure of how to respond. Fortunately, at that moment, Sha Zhu ran over. "Sister Qin, this must be your cousin Qin Jingru, right? Hello, Comrade Qin Jingru! I'm He Yuzhu, your sister's neighbor!"
Since arriving at Qin Huairu's home, Sha Zhu's gaze had not left Qin Jingru. Feeling shy under his intense stare, she simply nodded in response.
Sha Zhu, oblivious to the tension, turned to Qin Huairu and asked directly, "Sister Qin, is Comrade Qin Jingru the person you want to introduce to me?"
In the past, Qin Huairu had often used the excuse of introducing her cousin to Sha Zhu to gain benefits from him. However, she never intended to actually set them up. Now that Sha Zhu's value had significantly increased compared to before, she was even less inclined to introduce Qin Jingru to him.
Hearing Sha Zhu's words made Qin Jingru forget her shyness; she began sizing him up. The more she looked, the more her brows furrowed. What was wrong with her sister? This man looked quite old with his wrinkled face and his clothes were stained with grease, making him appear unkempt. What bothered her the most was the unpleasant odor emanating from him.
Unbeknownst to her, the clothes Sha Zhu wore were actually the cleanest he could find; it had been a long time since his sister had done his laundry, and finding this shirt was no easy feat.
Just as Qin Huairu was about to come up with an excuse to send Sha Zhu away, Bang Geng interjected disdainfully, "Hey Sha Zhu, what kind of daydream are you having? You think someone like you can date my aunt? Wake up!"
"Hey! You little brat, what's wrong with me? Why can't I date your aunt? I'm a chef at a major factory! As long as you're with me, you'll never go hungry!" Sha Zhu retorted angrily.
Bang Geng scoffed back, "Who doesn't know that you got dumped by the factory? Now you're just a level ten cook making barely twenty bucks a month. Plus, you're still in debt to Old Yi for four thousand one hundred bucks in fines! A broke loser like you wants to get married? Is that not a dream?"
Upon hearing that Sha Zhu was in debt for over four thousand bucks, Qin Jingru instinctively stepped back from him.
Seeing that a confrontation was about to break out between Sha Zhu and Bang Geng, Qin Huairu quickly intervened. She pulled Sha Zhu aside and whispered urgently, "Zhuzi, what are you doing? How can you ask if she's your potential partner right in front of her? If you scare my cousin away like this, what will I do?"
"Listen," she continued. "It's getting late; you should be heading to work soon. Why don't you come over this afternoon and prepare a nice meal? If Jingru enjoys your cooking, maybe she'll agree to go out with you!"
After hearing this from Qin Huairu, Sha Zhu realized he might have been too hasty. "I'm sorry, Sister Qin. I got a bit too eager there. I hope I didn't scare Jingru off! I'll make sure to impress her with my cooking tonight!"
"Yes! Just hurry along now and don’t scare Jingru any further," Qin Huairu urged.
With one last lingering glance at Qin Jingru, Sha Zhu turned and left.
"Sister! Was that guy named He Yuzhu really the person you're trying to set me up with?"
Seeing the look of disdain on Qin Jingru's face when she mentioned Sha Zhu made Qin Huairu realize that her cousin wasn't interested in him at all. That was fine; even though Sha Zhu's current financial situation wasn't great, he was still family. She wasn’t willing to let go of her own bloodline so easily!
