Everyone watched in shock as the foolish Zhu and Bang Geng were taken away by the police. It was hard to believe how quickly they had been arrested. Who would have thought that asking for a New Year's gift money would lead to such a situation? Zhu really brought this upon himself; who asks for New Year's money like that?
As the crowd began to murmur among themselves, Jia Zhang suddenly charged at Wang Jiefang, shouting, "Wang the Blind, you’ve harmed my grandson! It’s all your fault that he was taken by the police!"
Jia Zhang was quite overweight, and if she had truly collided with Wang Jiefang, he would surely have been injured. However, despite being blind, Wang was not unaware of his surroundings; there was no way he would let Jia Zhang crash into him. He quickly sidestepped to avoid her charge. Jia Zhang, not expecting him to be so agile, lost her balance and fell face-first onto the ground.
She hit the ground hard, scraping her face in the process. In an instinctive attempt to break her fall, she also scraped her hands. "Ouch! That hurts! I can’t go on living like this!" she cried out. "Old Jia, Dongxu, you left too early, leaving me here to suffer! Come back and take away these bullies who torment our family!"
Qin Huairu stepped forward, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded with Wang Jiefang, "Jiefang, it’s all my fault! Whatever it is, just come to me. Please spare my Bang Geng!"
Yi Zhonghai chimed in as well, "Wang Jiefang, you’re being too heartless! Zhu and Bang Geng just wanted a little New Year’s money from you! Is it really necessary to send them away? You’re ruining their lives!"
"And what about Jia Zhang? She’s an elder! How can you lay a hand on an old woman? Our courtyard doesn’t welcome someone as cold-hearted and disrespectful as you!"
Before Wang Jiefang could respond to Yi Zhonghai's accusations, his grandmother swung her cane at Yi Zhonghai with surprising force. "You think I’ll let you bully my grandson? If Jia Zhang charges at him, can’t he just dodge? What are your intentions?"
"Ah! So it’s wrong to hit elders? Only the younger generation is at fault while the older generation gets a free pass? Well then, I’m old enough to be your elder too! Today, I’m going to teach you a lesson!"
With her revitalized strength thanks to Wang Jiefang's mental support, the old lady struck Yi Zhonghai repeatedly. He dared not retaliate; if anything happened to her while he was involved, he could find himself in serious trouble.
"Ouch! You’re being unreasonable! I won’t argue with someone your age!" Yi Zhonghai exclaimed before making a hasty retreat.
The old lady couldn’t catch up with him but turned back to resume hitting Jia Zhang, who was still on the ground. Even Yi Zhonghai didn’t dare confront her; Jia Zhang certainly wouldn’t either! She got up from the ground and ran off after Yi Zhonghai.
Now only Qin Huairu stood awkwardly in place, feeling out of place amidst the chaos.
Qin Huairu, it seems you've made a mistake. It was Sha Zhu who extorted money from everyone with a stick, while it was Yi Zhonghai who called the police. From start to finish, it seems that the stick was never caught because of me. Did you come to find me by mistake?
