As Wang Jiefang pulled out the wine and meat, Ke Yunlong laughed and scolded, "Look at you, kid! At least you have a conscience and know to bring me something to eat!"
Wang Jiefang had put the guards watching Ke Yunlong into a trance; they wouldn't come looking for him until dawn. This allowed Ke Yunlong to eat and drink in peace, which also gave Wang Jiefang the confidence to talk with him.
When Wang Jiefang found Duan Peng, this guy was tangled up with a team of special forces planning to rescue Ke Yunlong!
Wang Jiefang barged right in, and in an instant, all the guns were aimed at him!
"Hey! Everyone, relax! We're on the same side here; don't get trigger-happy!"
Wang Jiefang had met Duan Peng before at Ke Yunlong's place, so Duan Peng recognized him. He nodded to the others to confirm that Wang Jiefang was indeed one of them, and they lowered their weapons.
"Wang Jiefang? What are you doing here in the middle of the night instead of sleeping at home?" Duan Peng asked sharply. After all, they were risking their necks for this mission, so it was understandable that he was on edge.
"Come on now, let's not talk about me. What are you all doing here fully armed in the dead of night?"
"That's none of your business! You should head home!" Duan Peng insisted, trying to shoo Wang Jiefang away.
Wang Jiefang dodged Duan Peng's outstretched hand. He decided not to tease him further and said directly, "I know what you're up to even if you don't tell me. You're planning to rescue Grandpa Ke, right?"
Duan Peng's eyes sharpened. "Kid, do you know what you're talking about?"
Wang Jiefang felt a wave of murderous intent wash over him. He recognized it as Duan Peng's aura from having killed many before; most people would be intimidated by such a presence, but it had no effect on him.
"Duan Uncle, there's no need to scare me. Let me tell you this: I just came from Grandpa Ke’s place. He guessed that you wouldn’t behave yourself and sent me here to stop you!"
"What? You met with the old chief? Is he alright?" Duan Peng asked anxiously.
Wang Jiefang couldn't help but roll his eyes. He helplessly replied, "Grandpa Ke is fine for now, but if you go after him, he won't be anymore!"
"How could that be? We're going to rescue him; it's better than letting him suffer in there! The chief has been wronged!"
Duan Peng was overly concerned about Ke Yunlong's situation. Being a soldier who had spent his life in the military, there were some things he simply couldn't grasp.
Wang Jiefang feared that if he didn’t clarify things soon enough, Duan Peng might act recklessly. He had to explain the implications of their actions.
"Duan Uncle, do you realize what could happen if you go after Grandpa Ke like this?" Wang Jiefang asked seriously.
