Liao Feng was the commander of the security team, responsible for the safety of all those he led. His mission was critical, allowing for no mistakes whatsoever. To ensure the safety of his superiors, he would make unannounced rounds to various posts every night.
As soon as he stepped out of his office, Liao Feng felt an unsettling sensation of being watched. He discreetly began to observe his surroundings. As he completed his inspection, a sudden noise from above caught his attention—something was falling. He swiftly stepped back and assumed a defensive stance. When he looked down at the object that had landed, he was taken aback: a book?
He glanced around again; there were no tall buildings nearby. Where could this book have fallen from? Could it have come from an airplane?
“Commander, what’s happening?” The soldiers nearby rushed over to inquire about the commotion.
“It’s nothing; just stay alert!” Liao Feng replied before stepping forward to pick up the book. Although he held the title of commander, he was a Major General and certainly capable of reading.
Upon seeing the title, he frowned: "A Modern History of China?" What country was this China? Driven by curiosity, he began flipping through the pages. The more he read, the more alarmed he became; the events described in the book mirrored the current developments in their own country almost perfectly!
What was going on? Liao Feng muttered to himself as he turned to a page that had been deliberately folded. His expression changed dramatically!
“What? A 7.8 magnitude earthquake in a certain mountain region? Over two hundred thousand dead and hundreds of thousands injured?!”
Liao Feng quickly closed the book and contemplated for a moment before gritting his teeth and rushing off to inform the highest-ranking leader at their resting place.
Wang Jiefang watched him leave with a sense of relief. As for why Liao Feng decided to take the entire book rather than just the section about the earthquake, it was simple: for credibility! He knew that even if he presented the whole book, its credibility might still be questionable, but it would certainly be more credible than just citing that one part.
He had done all he could; now it was up to the leaders to decide what would happen next. From that day on, Wang Jiefang began to pay close attention to the country's developments, eager to see what changes might unfold.
He had no idea how much shock the book he submitted had caused among the higher-ups, especially since it was dated 2016. This was a full forty years into the future, and it was published by a little-known entity from Huaguo!
