Now, Yu Li and Yan Jiefang were eagerly looking forward to closing up for the night and settling the accounts!
"Ha ha, Yu Li, we made over three hundred today! Our earnings exceeded a hundred!"
Yu Li's eyes sparkled with disbelief as she exclaimed, "Jiefang, this is just one day's income! We used to work an entire month for barely forty bucks! I never imagined we could earn over a hundred in just one day. If this keeps up, won't we be making three thousand a month?"
"Oh my gosh, we could pay off the loan in just one month! All the money would be ours!" She paused to calculate. "Three thousand a month... that’s thirty-six thousand!"
"Yu Li, we're going to get rich!" Yan Jiefang said excitedly, lifting Yu Li and spinning her around.
Yu Li was dizzy from the numbers swirling in her head. "Thirty-six thousand! How much is that?"
"Yu Li, in the future, we'll be the richest ones in the courtyard! Just wait until those people see us; they won't dare look down on us anymore! I’ll throw money at them!"
Yan Jiefang began to dream about their future life, both he and Yu Li unconsciously overlooking Wang Jiefang.
They were lost in their beautiful thoughts when, just two days later, they received some bad news.
"What? Master Zhou, you want to resign? Why? Did we offend you in any way?"
Master Zhou looked troubled. "Boss, Boss Lady, you haven't offended me. It's my own issue; I can't continue working. You’ll need to find another chef."
The restaurant had just started to pick up, and now the chef wanted to quit. Yu Li couldn't help but panic. "No! Master Zhou, you can't just quit like this! What am I supposed to do?"
"I can't help that. Just settle my wages for these days," Master Zhou said as he reached out for his pay.
Yan Jiefang was furious. "You still want your wages? Let me tell you—no way! Do you have any idea how much damage you're causing by leaving? It's already a miracle I’m not asking you for compensation!"
Having worked there for over a week, Master Zhou had a sense of how stingy Yan Jiefang and his wife were. Seeing that they might not pay him at all made his guilt about quitting vanish completely.
He looked at Yu Li with a blank expression. "Boss Lady, are you sure you won’t give me my wages?"
Yan Jiefang interjected angrily, "Forget it; if you want to leave, then just get lost!"
Realizing Yan Jiefang truly wouldn’t pay him anything, Master Zhou laughed in anger. "So you’re not going to pay me? Well then, don’t expect to hire another chef in the future! Just wait for your restaurant to close!"
With that parting shot, he turned and left without looking back. Yu Li and Yan Jiefang didn’t take his threat seriously; they believed that as long as they were willing to pay, there would always be chefs willing to come work for them!
What puzzled them was why Master Zhou suddenly didn’t want to work anymore. Sighing, they thought back on their earlier conversation with him—he hadn’t said a word about it!
Little did they know that this trouble had actually stemmed from Yan Jiefang himself!
