"Ah! Dr. Huang, I apologize. I didn't consider your situation. Since you still have surgery to attend to, let's skip the drinks. Boss, please bring us some tea instead!"
Boss Song was not the type to insist, and he certainly didn't want to offend Dr. Huang.
"Sure thing, I'll get that for you right away!"
After Yu Li replaced the drinks with tea, the first dish was ready.
"Boss, thank you for your patience. Here is your Mapo Tofu, please enjoy!"
As Yu Li set down the dish, she quickly left.
Dr. Huang frowned as he looked at the Mapo Tofu that had been served. The tofu pieces were uneven in size, and the sauce looked off. Could this possibly taste good?
"Come on, Dr. Huang, give this restaurant's food a try! I've heard you're quite the foodie!" Boss Song encouraged, oblivious to Dr. Huang's expression.
Under Boss Song's persuasion, Dr. Huang picked up a piece of tofu and put it in his mouth. As soon as he tasted it, his expression changed dramatically. He turned his head and spat the tofu out!
Seeing Dr. Huang's reaction, Boss Song immediately understood that something was wrong with the dish. He took a piece of tofu himself and put it in his mouth.
Instantly, his mouth was filled with an overwhelming salty and spicy flavor. Was this really Mapo Tofu? It tasted more like salty spicy tofu!
Boss Song also spat out the tofu, his face turning extremely sour. Great! He had invited Dr. Huang out to express his gratitude, only to serve such a terrible dish! Was this a gesture of thanks or an act of revenge?
"Yu Li! Come here!"
Boss Song called Yu Li over with barely concealed anger.
"Is there something you need, Boss?" Yu Li approached politely.
"Are you trying to fool customers with this kind of food? Do your chefs even know how to make Sichuan cuisine?"
Yu Li was taken aback by the accusation but remained calm to avoid offending him. "What’s wrong? Do you think this dish doesn't suit your taste? I can have the kitchen make another batch."
"No need! If you can't even get Mapo Tofu right, then your chefs are clearly not up to par for other Sichuan dishes either!"
The table of customers was not far from the kitchen, and since they were the only ones dining in the restaurant at that moment, Shazhu overheard everything.
Shazhu had always prided himself on his culinary skills; hearing someone say his Sichuan dishes weren't authentic struck a nerve! He couldn't stay in the kitchen any longer!
"Who said my Sichuan cuisine isn't authentic? Back in my day as head chef at the Third Steel Plant, countless leaders praised my Sichuan dishes!"
Facing the foolish Zhu who had suddenly appeared, Boss Song let out a cold laugh. "So you're the chef of this restaurant? That Mapo Tofu was made by you? From what you're saying, you used to cook for the leaders? They praised your Sichuan dishes? Ha! Do you really think the leaders have never tasted good food? And they praised your cooking? Pah!"
Could the foolish Zhu endure such ridicule? He clenched his fists, ready to charge at them!
Yu Li and Yan Jiefang quickly grabbed hold of Zhu, who now looked like a frail old man. Otherwise, the couple might not have been able to restrain him!
Zhu glared defiantly at Boss Song and his companions, still unwilling to back down. "Kid, it's only because my temper has improved lately. If this were ten years ago, I would have given you a good beating!"
