Xiao Dang and Huaihua sighed helplessly. How could they possibly want to give their money away? "Mom! We can save this money ourselves, there's no need to trouble you!" Xiao Dang pouted as she clung to Qin Huairu's arm.
"I'm your mother, what trouble is there?" Qin Huairu replied. "You two are still young, and when you have money, you can't help but want to spend it. Trust me, leave it with me, and I'll help you save it!"
Xiao Dang and Huaihua were no match for Qin Huairu's persistence; after a few exchanges, they had no choice but to concede. With the funds for her treatment secured, Qin Huairu's mood lifted. She had never considered asking Shazhu for money. First, she knew he genuinely had none to spare. Second, she was disgusted by Shazhu's condition and didn't want to see him. Third, she couldn't guarantee that when she approached him, he wouldn't cause her more trouble; after all, Shazhu had changed so much that she couldn't predict his reactions anymore.
Meanwhile, Xu Damao was drunkenly riding his bicycle toward Nanluoguxiang. Just as he approached the courtyard where he intended to stay, he felt something jolt his bike. Suddenly, he lost balance and fell over with the bicycle!
The fall nearly knocked the wind out of Xu Damao as he cursed, "Which bastard bumped into my bike?" But instead of an answer, he received a blow to the back of his head. Xu Damao's eyes rolled back as he fainted.
The assailant revealed himself—it was none other than Shazhu! Xu Damao had not crossed paths with Shazhu in ten years and had forgotten that Shazhu loved to use sneak attacks! If he hadn't angered Shazhu, he wouldn't have been out drinking so late and ended up getting ambushed by him.
Shazhu looked at the unconscious Xu Damao with cold eyes. When Xu Damao had pulled down his pants before, Shazhu had genuinely wanted to kill him! Now Xu Damao's life was in his hands, and he contemplated whether to beat him to death with the stick.
After a moment's thought, Shazhu abandoned the idea of killing Xu Damao—not because he forgave him, but because he felt it wasn't worth sacrificing himself just to take down Xu Damao. He didn't believe that if he killed Xu Damao, the police wouldn't find out.
Moreover, he had already devised a plan for revenge against Xu Damao! Since Xu Damao claimed to have a disgusting disease, Shazhu decided to make sure Xu Damao experienced it too—let's see if he'd still mock him afterward!
With that thought in mind, Shazhu dragged Xu Damao into a small alley under the cover of night. He stripped Xu Damao of his clothes.
Shazhu had struck hard; it took three days in the hospital for Xu Damao to regain consciousness after being discovered.
"Damao! You finally woke up!" Qin Jingru exclaimed tearfully upon seeing him awake. "I was so scared! The doctor said you might not make it!"
"Jingru, don't cry yet. What happened to me? Ouch, why does the back of my head hurt so much?"
