Yan Jiefang's laughter was heard by Wang Jiefang, and he immediately knew that this guy was up to something!
Facing Yan Bugui's schemes, Wang Jiefang didn’t hold back. He shot back, “Old Yan, I can’t afford to use Yu Li and Yan Jiefang. After all, my restaurant has just opened, and I don’t want to risk losing my business license!”
As soon as these words left his mouth, the faces of the Yan family darkened! Yan Jiefang no longer felt pleased; he glared at Wang Jiefang and retorted angrily, “Wang the Blind, don’t get too smug. It’s just a shabby restaurant! Sooner or later, I’ll surpass you!”
He continued, “And my restaurant was shut down because of Shazhu; it has nothing to do with my management!”
After venting his frustration, a thought suddenly crossed Yan Jiefang’s mind as he looked at Wang Jiefang with feigned innocence. “I say, Wang Jiefang, when I opened that little eatery back then, I treated everyone in the courtyard to a meal! Now that you’ve opened such a big restaurant, shouldn’t you invite us old neighbors to celebrate?”
Upon hearing Yan Jiefang's words, the people in the courtyard looked at Wang Jiefang with eager eyes. They had heard that the dishes at "Food as Immortals" were exquisite, frequented by wealthy patrons!
These ordinary folks could hardly afford to dine there! If they could take this opportunity to enjoy a free meal inside, they would have something to brag about later! If Wang Jiefang charged them a fee, it would be just like when they used to eat at Yan Jiefang’s place—each contributing a dime!
Seeing their eager expressions, Wang Jiefang chose not to respond directly to Yan Jiefang. Instead, he addressed everyone in the courtyard: “Since you’re all here, I want to let you know that we’re planning to move out of this courtyard!”
“Hmm, since we’ll no longer be neighbors after I move out, I think inviting you all to my restaurant is off the table!”
What Wang Jiefang said surprised everyone even more than the opening of his restaurant!
“What? You’re moving away? Where are you going?” Yan Bugui asked in astonishment.
“Old Yan,” Wang Jiefang replied, “I bought a courtyard near Shichahai. I just finished renovating it these past few days and plan to move over soon. Since you’re all here today, I thought I’d let you know in advance!”
Upon hearing that Wang Jiefang had bought a house near Shichahai, Yan Bugui exclaimed in surprise, “Little Wang, did you really buy a house there? Those properties aren’t cheap!”
When money was mentioned, the attention of everyone in the courtyard shifted toward this topic!
“Yeah, houses near Shichahai are quite substantial! Does Wang Jiefang really have the money to buy one?”
“Exactly! Speaking of money, wasn’t this Wang the Blind just a cook at the neighborhood office? Where did he get the funds to open a restaurant?”
“Now that you mention it, I heard that 'Food as Immortals' spent over a million just on renovations! And that building was bought by the owner! Where did Wang Jiefang come up with so much money?”
“Do you think Wang Jiefang might have done something illegal? Otherwise, how could he afford both a restaurant and a house?”
As they spoke among themselves, speculation began to swirl in the courtyard. If this continued, it seemed like Wang Jiefang would soon be accused of being some notorious thief or enemy agent!
