Is Xue Ming really the Xue Ming from my past life? How could someone discover so many of my preferences in just a few days? Moreover, is he being so nice to me to make up for what he owes me from my previous life, or is it something else?
I shook my head, not daring to think any further.
After school, Xue Ming asked me, "Which seat do you want in the classroom?"
I casually replied, "Anywhere."
He pointed to the fifth row by the window and suggested, "How about sitting there?"
I shook my head. "I don't want to sit there."
He looked puzzled. "Why not?"
I couldn't be bothered to explain and just brushed it off with a few vague words. "I just don't want to sit there."
The next day, I sat right next to Ma Yuan.
Xue Ming frowned. "Aren't you sitting there?"
I looked at him curiously. "Why would I sit there?"
His frown deepened. "But we agreed on that yesterday..."
I couldn't help but interrupt him. "When did I ever say I wanted to sit there?"
Xue Ming was taken aback for a moment before he said somewhat aggrieved, "You said it was fine."
I was speechless.
At noon, I dragged Ma Yuan to the glasses store.
Ma Yuan looked a bit flustered. "Shan Shan, why did you bring me here?"
I pointed at the blackboard. "Can you see the board clearly?"
Ma Yuan hesitated. "Not really..."
I smiled and said, "Then let's get you a pair of glasses."
Ma Yuan quickly waved his hands. "No way, no way! I don't have any money..."
I pulled her to the entrance of the glasses shop. "I'll get you a pair; you don't have to pay anything."
Ma Yuan's face turned bright red. "No way, you've already helped me enough."
I ruffled her hair. "If you don't wear glasses, how are you going to tutor me?"
Only then did Ma Yuan agree.
On our way back to the classroom, Xue Ming suddenly jumped out from the stairwell.
He frowned, looking a bit unhappy. "Why didn't you sit in the spot we agreed on yesterday?"
I looked at him in confusion. "When did I ever agree to that?"
Xue Ming got anxious. "But you said it was fine!"
I rolled my eyes at him. "Just because I said it was fine doesn't mean I wanted to sit there!"
Xue Ming replied matter-of-factly, "Of course it does."
I scoffed. "I never asked you to let me sit there; you just assumed too much."
Xue Ming was left speechless.
I couldn't be bothered with him and pulled Ma Yuan, trying to walk past him up the stairs.
Xue Ming stubbornly grabbed my arm. "Why didn't you wait for me this morning?"
I looked at him in bewilderment. "Why should I wait for you?"
Xue Ming pressed his lips together. "Aren't we going to school together?"
I replied, "Oh, I woke up late this morning and was afraid of being late, so I didn't wait for you. Did you wait for me?"
Xue Ming was momentarily taken aback and after a while muttered, "I waited for you."
I raised an eyebrow. "Alright then, from now on I'll wait for you."
Before Xue Ming could say anything else, Lin Shuqin suddenly came down the stairs and blocked his way.
I pulled Ma Yuan past him and went upstairs.
Lin Shuqin lowered her voice; I couldn't hear what she said to him.
But I caught one sentence: "...she doesn't love you at all..."
During the first class of the afternoon, Lin Shuqin passed by me and slipped a note into my hand.
The note contained only a single line: "Stay away from Xue Ming."
I initially intended to ignore her, but upon seeing the hatred in her eyes, I suddenly changed my mind.
Lin Shuqin stood in the corridor, waiting for me.
I walked over, and she looked at me with disdain. "If it weren't for you being fostered by the Xue Family, you wouldn't even have the right to speak to me."
I raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?"
Lin Shuqin scoffed. "Do you really think A Ming likes you?"
I smiled. "At least he doesn't hate me like one would hate a fly."
Lin Shuqin's expression instantly darkened. "You..."
