Song Feiwan considered herself quite brave; she wasn't afraid of the dead. However, when faced with a creature as large as this, covered in countless black legs, she found herself utterly terrified. That fleeting glance had left a deep imprint in her mind, and the more she tried to forget it, the more it haunted her.
Her blood surged through her veins, and every inch of her skin felt as if that disgusting thing had crawled over it, causing an unbearable itch. When had it climbed onto her? How long had it been there? Surely it couldn't have come from Bixiao Palace?
Overwhelmed by discomfort, her delicate and beautiful face turned pale, and her eyes reddened uncontrollably. It was too much to bear; she tightened her grip on her arms, her feet barely touching the ground as she clung to Xiao Yu for support.
A whimper escaped her throat, filled with dread. Had the palace maids confirmed that it was gone?
The maids stole a glance at Prince Chen's displeased expression, their hearts racing with anxiety at the thought of him getting angry and blaming them. They hurriedly reassured her, "Your Highness, it's already been disposed of."
Yet Song Feiwan still couldn't bring herself to let go; her knuckles turned white from the strain. "Let’s check again, see if there’s any left."
The maid hesitated, glancing at Xiao Yu.
Xiao Yu felt Song Feiwan's grip tighten and lowered his head slightly; he could feel his collar being tugged at. Annoyed, he pressed his lips together and said, "We won't look again."
Song Feiwan shook her head vigorously like a rattle drum. "I won’t! I’m afraid there might be more on the ground."
Xiao Yu's brow twitched slightly. "Am I not standing on the ground as well?"
Song Feiwan paused for a moment, thinking that with someone as intimidating as him around, the bugs probably wouldn’t dare approach him. His calm demeanor only made her feel a newfound respect for him; he seemed significantly taller in that moment.
Feeling safe beside him, she avoided his gaze and wrapped her arms around his neck tightly, whispering softly, "I won’t get down."
Xiao Yu was suddenly bent over by her pull; he pressed his tongue against his back teeth and let out a cold laugh as the atmosphere around him shifted ominously. His reaction suggested he might just throw Song Feiwan off at any moment.
The palace attendants' expressions changed dramatically as they all fell to their knees, pleading, "My lord, please calm your anger!"
Song Feiwan's heart raced. Before she could discern whether it was due to the earlier encounter with the bug or because Xiao Yu was about to erupt in anger, the man made a move.
Under the trembling gaze of the attendants, he raised one hand and effortlessly lifted Song Feiwan by her thigh.
The attendants: !!
Song Feiwan felt herself suddenly lifted off the ground, her fox-like eyes widening instinctively, her face taking on a girlish innocence.
She blinked rapidly, lowering her long lashes, and only then did she realize that she was being cradled like a child in the arms of the tall and imposing Xiao Yu.
His arm was remarkably steady, as if he were holding a feather, his expression unchanged.
He slightly tilted his head, and within his narrow phoenix eyes, a dark storm seemed to be brewing. Yet, his lips curled into a smile as he teasingly asked, "Is it that you want me to carry you back to Bixiao Palace, my lady?"
Song Feiwan detected a warning in his tone and felt a twinge of guilt.
She quickly compared in her mind: no matter how terrifying the villain was, he had never caused her any real harm. The bug, however, was different; its earlier crawl had already left her with psychological trauma!
Thus, holding onto a glimmer of hope, she sincerely asked, "Is that possible?"
Xiao Yu finally let out a laugh and replied mercilessly, "Not possible."
