Once on horseback, she turned back for one last look at the path Xiao Yu and the others had taken. The echoes of his calls and coaxing seemed to linger in her ears.
When he promised her a lifetime together as a couple, Song Feiwan had seen genuine love in his eyes.
But she couldn’t believe it, nor could she linger.

She was selfish; she couldn’t gamble her life on his sincerity.
