A deep, resonant chime echoed through the air, slowly spreading outwards in all directions.
I blinked in confusion, my gaze unfocused as I stared at the familiar ceiling above.
...Where am I?
Filled with questions, I sat up and looked around. The room I was in was filled with walls of books; aside from the bed I lay on, every available space was crammed with books. There were so many that the shelves couldn’t hold them all, and they were stacked haphazardly on the floor, leaving just enough room for a narrow path leading to the door.
This place feels so familiar... Isn’t this my room?
I casually picked up a book resting by my bedside and flipped through it—yes, it was definitely one of mine.
I had an almost obsessive habit of buying books; whenever I came across a story I liked, I felt compelled to purchase it for my collection. I insisted on having complete sets, and over the years, my room had unknowingly filled up with them. There were even times during earthquakes when books would tumble down upon me, nearly burying me alive, yet my habit remained unchanged.
For me, simply possessing them brought a sense of happiness.
Surrounded by books, this space offered me an indescribable sense of comfort.
But what’s happening now? Am I back in the real world? Or was everything before just a dream?
Also, I think I heard a chime just now...
With a heart full of questions, I slowly got out of bed and walked towards the door—
What greeted me was a breathtaking sight: a ground covered in vibrant flowers and strange plants; the dark night sky was dotted with stars, and a large moon hung low on the horizon as if about to set. Looking up, I saw a misty transparent clock suspended in the darkness of the dome above. The scene was so stunning that it took my breath away...
Wait, is this... Otherworldly Illusion?!
I stepped outside, bewildered, gazing at the scene before me.
I vaguely remembered being transported here from my dreams for some unknown reason, and then a girl with a carefree smile was looking at me, as if she had been waiting for my arrival:
"Hello, nice to meet you."
That's right, that girl was An Yeh, the novice village guide assigned by the system.
At least, that's what I believed.
I was here to receive her guidance... or rather, it felt more like being force-fed skills and then unceremoniously kicked out...
And now, somehow, I found myself back here again.
I unconsciously looked up at the misty clock hanging in the night sky.
To be honest, I was sure there was nothing like this in my initial impressions... So, is this something new created by the system after I had a nonsensical conversation with Lan Sizhui and the others?
Suddenly realizing something, I turned around sharply—only to see a plain little wooden house standing behind me, completely devoid of any trace of my original room.
After hesitating for a moment, I slowly pushed open the door of the wooden house. Inside was a simple arrangement that felt both strange and familiar—I knew this was how Wei Hua remembered it.
I glanced down at the book I had just been holding; it had now vanished without a trace. I couldn't even recall what I had read moments ago.
What on earth is happening? I truly had no idea...
Could it be that An Yeh has awakened and reopened the realm?
I looked around, relying on Wei Hua's memories as I walked along the winding path outside the wooden cabin.
Under the moonlight, at the end of the path, there was a pool shimmering with rippling reflections.
On a massive rock beside the pool sat a petite figure dressed in water-colored garments.
I stood there in a daze for quite some time, hesitantly taking steps toward that person.
When I reached the edge of the pool, I paused a few steps away. A strange and delicate fragrance wafted toward me, emanating from a cluster of vibrant green plants at the base of the giant rock. They bloomed with pure white flowers resembling Ephemeral Flowers, but their centers were a deep crimson, like fresh blood.
Moonlit Ghost Flower—this was the only name of a plant I remembered.
Before I could speak, it seemed that the person had already sensed my presence, their gaze, which had been focused on the surface of the water, suddenly darting toward me.
"It seems you've adapted quite well during this time!"
Upon hearing this, I quietly glanced at the water's surface—reflected there were images of my various experiences over these past days.
An Yeh could transform this pool into a mirror, showcasing all the images she wished to know or display.
"Master, since you have reopened the realm and summoned me back, does that mean my trial has come to an end?" I asked in confusion.
But An Yeh stared at me in shock, then burst into exaggerated laughter, repeatedly slapping her knee.
"Hahaha! Master? Hmm, that title is quite imposing; I like it! Very well, I permit you to call me that!"
I looked at her in confusion. "What's wrong?"
"Everything is wrong! Are you confused? I'm at best just a guide; there's nothing so noble about me!" She laughed and wiped away the tears that had gathered at the corners of her eyes.
Thinking back, it seemed that the title of Master was something I had made up on the spot when explaining my background to Song Lan, and I had continued to use it ever since, to the point where I almost believed it myself...
"Ugh, what’s going on? Your memory seems to be in complete disarray! Haven't you organized it yet?" She looked at me with a cryptic smile. "Tell me, do you remember why you came here?"
"Huh?" My mind went blank for a moment. "Wasn't it you who summoned me here?"
Isn't that how those time-travel stories always describe it? The protagonist is suddenly summoned to another world by a system without any preparation...
Wait, I feel like I've forgotten something.
Something seems off...
I couldn't recall.
"Well, in conclusion, maybe that's true, but..." An Yeh shrugged dismissively. "Ha, if you don't remember, then forget it. Those things are no longer important to you anyway."
"Not important?" I couldn't help but frown.
If those things weren't important, then what was?
"Anyway, just continue your journey." An Yeh pointed toward the surface of the water. "Don't overthink it; everything will work itself out in time!"
"Wait! You haven't answered me. Since you've already restarted the realm, what about my trial..."
"Trial? Restarting the realm?" An Yeh looked at me strangely. "I've always been here."
"Huh?" I stared at her in confusion. "But... I, um..." Weren't you sealed and asleep for a reason? Those settings... did I set them?!
"Ah, I see. You still think this is just a game? Without a mission as your goal, you don't know how to proceed?" An Yeh gazed at me thoughtfully. "However, if you remain too detached, you'll be the one who feels troubled later on!"
"...What do you mean?" I was filled with questions.
"Well, it doesn't matter. Regardless of my existence, it won't affect what happens next. You just need to focus on what you should do," An Yeh said calmly.
"So, what exactly am I supposed to do?" I had no idea!
"You only need to remember what I've told you and do as you see fit. If you must set a mission for yourself, then your only task is to 'survive.' That's all there is to it. As for the rest, you can decide for yourself!"
She bent down and reached for an unbloomed Ephemeral Flower, handing it to me. "I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll do next!"
I instinctively accepted it, staring blankly as the bud gradually bloomed in my hand, emitting a strange light. "No, but..."
"Don't worry. If you really encounter difficulties, I'll still lend a hand," she said with a meaningful smile, placing her finger on her lips—
"As long as you ○○, I'll be there..."
