A glimmer of mischief flashed in Du Hengyan's eyes.
"You’re quite charming," he remarked.
Chi Mu Jiu couldn't help but chuckle softly. If she could, she would gladly stay here, enjoying the company of such an exceptional man, rather than returning to her country to face her scheming stepmother and the pretentious Lian Ying sister. Why not?
Du Hengyan chose not to pursue that topic any further. Instead, he crouched down beside the bed and gently rubbed her belly, his movements tender and meticulous.
"Tell me, with a considerate and handsome man like me, why did you choose to become a male model?" Chi Mu Jiu genuinely wanted to know and couldn't help but ask. Her gaze was filled with curiosity as it fell upon Du Hengyan's face.
He didn’t refute her question; instead, he turned to ask her, "If I weren't a male model, would you consider letting me be your boyfriend?"
"Huh?" Chi Mu Jiu was taken aback, completely unprepared for his sudden proposition. She knew that thoughts abroad were indeed more liberal than those at home, but this was a bit too forward, wasn’t it? They had only known each other for less than two days, and here he was saying something like that?
"A man who doesn’t adhere to traditional values? I’m not considering that for now," she finally regained her composure and said deliberately.
"An unreserved woman? I’m just teasing you," Du Hengyan shot back immediately, his deep-set eyes glinting with amusement as he looked at her with a hint of playful mockery.
"How dare you! Du Hengyan, bringing this up!"
Hearing him say that reminded Chi Mu Jiu of what had happened last night when she had been drunk. The scenes replayed in her mind—wasn’t that just outright seduction?
But then he shifted the conversation back to their earlier topic. His sharp gaze met Chi Mu Jiu's clear eyes.
"Seven hundred thousand to buy me for a year; are you willing?"
"Of course I am."
Chimu Jiu answered without hesitation.
"Are you afraid I won't give you the money, so you're saying this on purpose?"
She pressed on.
Du Hengyan fell silent, exasperated. Did he really lack such trivial amounts?
It was just that what she offered was more precious than anything else.
"Rest well; I'll go get you some ginger syrup."
Du Hengyan's voice had a calming magic to it.
Before she could respond, he prepared to stand up and leave.
However, Chimu Jiu didn't want him to go so soon; a hint of reluctance stirred within her.
Instinctively, she reached out and tightly grasped his wrist.
"Where are you going to find brown sugar?"
Chimu Jiu furrowed her brow slightly.
Du Hengyan seemed to see through her thoughts and smiled gently.
"Don't worry about that; just rest well and wait for me to come back."
His tone was soft, leaving Chimu Jiu no room for rebuttal.
Her small hand still clung tightly to Du Hengyan's, unwilling to let go.
"Will you wait until I fall asleep before you go?"
Her voice was gentle, laced with a hint of coaxing.
Du Hengyan paused for a moment, slightly taken aback.
"Okay."
He replied softly, a glimmer of amusement flashing in his eyes.
Then, he gently tucked the stray strands of hair from her forehead behind her ear, his movements tender and meticulous.
After that, he affectionately ruffled her small head:
"Go to sleep, be good."
Du Heng sighed, "Don't say seven million for a year; even if it were to buy you for a lifetime, I'd be somewhat willing."
