In a daze, she heard the faint sound of a door closing.
Chi Mu Jiu felt her eyelids still heavy and unyielding, her body weary and fatigued. The soft bed beneath her felt as light as a cloud, while the silk duvet draped over her gently caressed her skin, the air infused with a subtle fragrance of dragon sandalwood. A sense of indescribable comfort and security enveloped her, prompting her to turn over and drift back into sleep.
Outside in the living room, Du Heng Yan was dressed in a loose cardigan-style nightgown, the soft fabric lightly clinging to his tall frame, almost like a second skin. As he moved, the garment parted slightly, revealing glimpses of his firm chest and lean waist, exuding an unintentional allure. Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a gentle golden outline around him, making him appear both languid and captivating.
What was it this time?
Du Heng Yan sat on the sofa, holding a phone to his ear.
"Boss, the people from the casino are already outside."
The call was from one of his associates at the casino.
"Let them wait."
"Understood, Boss," came the respectful reply.
After hanging up, Du Heng Yan considered lighting a cigarette but remembered that Chi Mu Jiu was still asleep in the bedroom. He put the cigar back down.
News about Pei Si quickly reached Pei Jin, who was far away on some island engaged in underground dealings. Pei Jin understood all too well what it meant for his son to fall into Du Heng Yan's hands; everyone knew of Du Heng Yan's ruthless methods within the vast and intricate web of underground crime.
Pei Jin was involved in pure illicit activities, but Pei Si was his only son. Anxious and desperate, he made several calls in an attempt to negotiate with Du Heng Yan. However, as expected, Du Heng Yan rejected all requests for communication.
With no other options, Pei Jin had to abandon his current dealings and hurriedly make his way to another country. At this moment, he was waiting for himself at the casino.
Du Heng Yan knew that Pei Jin's personal visit would not be without preparation. His gaze inadvertently drifted towards the bedroom door; in that instant, he noticed Chi Mu Jiu cautiously peeking through the narrow gap of the slightly ajar door, her head poking out like a curious little cat.
"Are you awake?"
Du Hengyan slightly crossed his legs, his posture relaxed, and his voice drifted out slowly.
Chimu Jiu was taken aback; had she been discovered so quickly? She awkwardly chuckled a couple of times before gently opening the door and stepping toward him, one foot at a time.
"What were you eavesdropping on?"
A hint of mischief glimmered in Du Hengyan's eyes.
"You only said one sentence," Chimu Jiu mumbled in response, her tone tinged with a bit of helplessness.
"Now that you're awake, there's something happening over at the gambling area that we need to handle."
Du Hengyan spoke in a flat tone, as if he were discussing something utterly mundane.
Chimu Jiu sat beside him, confusion filling her gaze. "What can I possibly do about the gambling area?"
"The cards," Du Hengyan's eyes settled on her. "This is a perfect opportunity for you to showcase your abilities."
In an instant, Chimu Jiu realized he was referring to her ability to see through the cards.
"Who are we gambling against?" she asked curiously.
"Pei Si," Du Hengyan replied succinctly.
"Wait, wasn't he captured by you?" Chimu Jiu's expression turned puzzled again, but she quickly connected the dots. "Did someone come from Pei Si's family to redeem him?"
Hmm. Since he dares to touch my people, let's take a stroll with his father. That's not too much to ask, right?
Chimu Jiu
