One day, when Wen Qian took Lu Chen to the supply store in the military camp to buy some things, she felt as if someone was constantly watching her from the roadside. She touched her face, wondering if there was something unusual about it. 0

However, after walking for a while, she still felt the gaze of people—men, women, old and young alike! This made Wen Qian quite curious. 0

She squatted down and pulled Lu Chen closer, whispering, "Chen Chen, does Mommy have something on her face?" 0

Lu Chen used his small hands to tug at Wen Qian's cheeks, turning her face left and right. In his sweet voice, he said, "Mommy, no! But you look a bit whiter!" 0

Wen Qian stood up and continued walking with her son, her mind racing through the events of the past few days. She couldn't recall doing anything that would cause such a stir in the military district! 0

The incident with the children yesterday didn’t seem significant enough to warrant this kind of attention. In the afternoon, several sisters-in-law had come over one after another to chat with her. They thanked her for educating their children and admired how well-behaved Lu Chen was, asking how she managed it. Other than that, nothing else stood out. 0

When they arrived at the supply store, she bought some spices and notebooks. Suddenly, she noticed a new batch of fabric and walked over to take a look. 0

Behind the counter sat a young girl who couldn't hide her curiosity as she watched Wen Qian. After glancing around, she quietly asked, "Are you the family member of Commander Lu?" 0

Wen Qian looked up at her and nodded. "Yes!" 0

"It's really you! How are you so amazing?" The girl exclaimed. 0

Wen Qian was taken aback by the girl's admiration and leaned in to ask softly, "What do you mean?" 0

"You have Commander Lu wrapped around your finger! Everyone in the military district knows that he has to pamper you," the girl said with wide eyes. "You're incredible! I've only ever heard of wives coaxing their husbands; this is my first time seeing a husband seeking advice on how to please his wife." 0

Wen Qian's head was filled with question marks. What on earth was going on? She could only smile faintly as she handed the two pieces of fabric to the girl. 0

"Comrade, please help me check out!" 0

After settling the bill, Wen Qian hurried home with Lu Chen, feeling a surge of frustration inside her. She had come to the military camp simply to live a peaceful life for a while. Once college entrance exams resumed, she planned to take little Chen and leave. 0

She didn't think too much about attracting attention; when one did, there would always be those who couldn't stand it and would come looking for trouble. She wasn't afraid of trouble coming her way, but that didn't mean she wasn't worried about someone causing issues for Xiao Chen. After all, even if she could help Xiao Chen out after something happened, the events would still unfold around him, and ultimately, he would be the one to suffer. 0

What Wen Qian didn't know was that from the moment she and Lu Chen arrived at the base, the entire military district was already aware of it! Once she got home and put her things away, Xiao Chen ran out to play while she stayed in to read and write. 0

As she wrote, she lost track of time; before she knew it, the entire morning had passed. Looking at the words on the page, she felt a deep sense of accomplishment. She then went to the kitchen to prepare lunch, and while she was cooking, Lu Zheng suddenly walked in. 0

He entered the kitchen, took off the apron from Wen Qian, and put it on himself. He reached out to take the spatula from her hand and stood at the stove to stir-fry. 0

"You should step outside; it's smoky in here," he said. 0

Wen Qian stepped out and headed over to Lu Chen's house for a meal. By the time she returned home, Lu Zheng had already set the table with the food he had prepared. 0

During dinner, Wen Qian occasionally glanced at Lu Zheng. Observing his expressionless face stirred up some questions in her mind. However, believing that speaking up was a virtue, she decided not to hold back or suppress her feelings any longer. 0

"Lu Zheng, you haven't done anything unusual lately, have you?" 0

"Hmm?" Lu Zheng looked up at Wen Qian with a puzzled expression, not quite understanding what she meant. 0

"Uh, I mean... have you heard any news from the base?" 0

"What news? I’ve been at the training ground all day!" 0

"Nothing much!" 0

Wen Qian sighed as she looked at Lu Zheng's demeanor; she didn’t want to press further. He was as unresponsive as a block of wood—she couldn't get anything out of him! 0

Lu Zheng pulled an envelope from his pocket and awkwardly handed it to Wen Qian. "The allowances from the base have been distributed; everything is in here." 0

"Okay, I got it. Just put it aside for now," Wen Qian replied coldly. 0

Lu Zheng was taken aback by her indifferent attitude and suddenly asked curiously, "Aren't you going to open it and take a look?" 0

Wen Qian frowned at him. Why was he acting so strangely? Even his visit last night had felt off. Seeing Lu Zheng's expectant gaze, she decided to nod in agreement, setting down her bowl to take the envelope. 0

As soon as she held it in her hands, she noticed something was off—the weight didn't seem right. Surprised, Wen Qian wondered if they had distributed all of this month's allowances at once. 0

As she opened the box, she discovered that it contained not just money, but also a watch! Surprised and delighted, she looked at Lu Zheng and asked, "Did you buy this for me?" 0

"Yes," he replied. 0

Wen Qian nodded, but then looked at him with a teasing smile. "Where did you get the money?" 0

Lu Zheng's face froze for a moment. He opened his mouth but didn't say anything. After a brief pause, he chuckled helplessly and said, "I borrowed it from a comrade." 0

Wen Qian put the watch on her wrist and raised her arm to admire it. "I appreciate the thought, but if you’re going to have dinner with me later and then return the money, it’s not like we’re short on cash at home." 0

"No," he insisted. "If I give you the money, then it's yours. I can earn more later." 0

Wen Qian smiled at him playfully. "Are you trying to divorce me?" 0

Lu Zheng's pupils dilated in shock as he looked at her fearfully. "Why would you say that?" 0

"Because you seem to want to keep things so separate. Just because you gave me the money doesn’t mean it’s only mine; it’s our family’s money. If you borrowed it from someone else, why not just pay them back?" 0

"I know you think that if I give you more money, you might feel like this watch is no different from one you bought yourself," he said. 0

She sighed. "But it's not the same. The surprise has already been given, and that's enough for me. Besides, when you earn more in the future, won’t that still be for me? It doesn’t matter whether it’s given early or late!" 0

Lu Zheng chuckled and nodded lightly. 0

At that moment, Lu Chen raised his little wrist towards Lu Zheng. "Daddy, why don’t I have one?" 0

He pointed at the watches on Lu Zheng and Wen Qian's wrists and then back at his own small wrist. 0

"When you grow up, you'll have one too. Right now, you're still too little for a watch your size." 0

Wen Qian imagined Lu Chen wandering around the family compound with a watch on his wrist. She could already hear everyone criticizing her and Lu Zheng for wasting money—complaining about how they were burning cash by buying such an expensive watch for their child. 0

"Alright then! You can have one when you grow up!" 0

After dinner, Wen Qian casually asked Lu Zheng, "What made you suddenly want to buy me a watch?" 0
