At that time, when Chixue Tea was taken away from the village, she leaned against Captain Chi's chest in the carriage, crying incessantly and complaining.
"Why did you have to make me marry? If it weren't for you insisting on it, I wouldn't have ended up like this. How am I supposed to live now?"
She pounded her fists against Captain Chi's arm, gritting her teeth, her voice filled with pain and despair as she shouted.
"Why didn't you come for me sooner? Why didn't you bring me back earlier?"
Captain Chi's eyes turned red with heartache as he allowed Chixue Tea to hit him. Upon arriving in the city, he decided they should find a guesthouse to rest for a day before heading back.
In the guesthouse, Chixue Tea wallowed in despair, crying out, "Just let me die! What’s the point of living? I don’t want to live anymore; you’ve ruined my life!"
She held a pair of scissors tightly, the sharp tip pressed against her neck. With swollen eyes from crying, she looked at Captain Chi in desperation, her hand trembling slightly around the scissors.
"I don’t want to live! You took me away; what difference does it make? In the end, I’m still being forced to marry! Who would want me now? I don’t even want to marry anymore."
"You’ve already taken my first chance; I won’t let you hurt me a second time or deceive me again."
Captain Chi was in a cold sweat, both worried and anxious as he looked at Chixue Tea. He pleaded, "Xue, please put down the scissors. I promise I won’t force you to do anything else."
"Your mother will say the same; she won’t pressure you."
"I don’t believe you! I don’t believe any of this!" Chixue Tea shouted loudly, moving the scissors closer to her neck.
The blade pierced her skin, drawing blood that stung Captain Chi’s eyes and pierced his heart even more deeply.
"My mother will definitely plead for my brother; she’ll sacrifice me for your future!"
At that moment, she seemed somewhat unhinged, her gaze unfocused and her movements uncontrolled. She lowered her head and murmured to herself in disbelief, memories of her mother pleading flashing through her mind.
Lu Zheng seized the opportunity and swiftly grabbed Chixue Tea’s hand, wrenching the scissors from her grip.
Chixue Tea struggled wildly, her eyes bloodshot as she glared at Lu Zheng. When she saw him trying to take the scissors away, she bit down hard on his hand in defiance.
With a sharp intake of breath from the sudden pain, Lu Zheng stumbled back. Soon after, others rushed over and took the scissors from his hand.
Seeing Chixue Tea’s actions and Lu Zheng’s bitten hand, Captain Chi had no choice but to knock Chixue Tea unconscious.
Chixue Cha loosened her lips, her eyes fixed on Lu Zheng until she fainted. When she woke up, all the dangerous items in the room had been put away. Lu Zheng's wound was not serious; fortunately, it hadn't broken the skin, so there was no need to go to the hospital.
As soon as Chixue Cha regained consciousness, she sought out Lu Zheng, wanting to cling to him. Being a man, Lu Zheng quickly sensed her intentions and immediately rejected her, reminding her that he had a wife and children.
Chixue Cha spoke privately with Commander Chi, who sighed as he looked at her. "Xiaoxue, Lu Zheng already has a family. You should give up!"
"I don't care! I want him! If you don't agree, I'll just die! I want him and no one else!" Chixue Cha stubbornly refused to relent. Commander Chi sighed again but still couldn't agree.
Seeing that he was unyielding, Chixue Cha decided to soften her approach. She knelt at Commander Chi's feet, crying softly, "Dad, please! I can't go on living like this. I don’t want to live anymore; there’s nothing worth living for."
Commander Chi looked at her sadly. "Isn't it true that your mother and I are not worth living for either? Because of us, you've become like this. Why can't you understand my feelings?"
"Dad, please! I really like him. He is the first person who has treated me so well; he saved me. If it weren't for him, I might be dead by now."
Commander Chi looked at her skeptically. "Is Lu Zheng the only one who could have saved you?"
"Dad, please! Just let him stay with me for a while; help me get through this time. I really can’t go on living like this. You don’t know what that old beast wants from me—he wants me to bear him another son! They held my legs down so I couldn’t move; it made me want to die."
"Every time I close my eyes, it's all I see. I truly can't bear it anymore."
"Dad, have mercy on me! I'm really out of options. Just think of it as compensation for me; I promise I won’t destroy his family. He just needs to not push me away or hide from me."
Chixue Cha pleaded tearfully, her voice hoarse and barely audible as she continued to kneel on the ground in desperation.
Commander Chi watched her in pain; the hurt in his eyes was genuine, but so was his struggle and hesitation. Just as Chixue Cha lay on the ground coughing loudly, Commander Chi finally couldn't bear it any longer. He closed his eyes and hoarsely agreed.
"Alright, I promise you, but you must promise me not to destroy the Lu family's home. Otherwise, I will have to take you away by force."
Chi Xuecha crouched by his feet, thanking him.
Captain Chi stepped heavily out of the house, struggling with pain and hesitation as he looked at Lu Zheng.
A few of Lu Zheng's companions were waiting outside and naturally heard Chi Xuecha's words.
Captain Chi led them into the house and looked at Lu Zheng, unable to speak.
"Lu Zheng, I beg you, please treat Xiao Xue as your sister for now. Just for a while..."
This was the first time Captain Chi found it so difficult to speak. He looked at Lu Zheng with anguish.
In a moment of desperation, he pleaded, "Lu Zheng, please help me this once! She's my only daughter, and I've already let her down so much. You've seen what she's been through. Just pity her a little, will you?"
Captain Chi was on the verge of kneeling down to beg Lu Zheng when Lu Zheng stopped him.
"Captain, what are you doing?"
"Lu Zheng, I know this matter puts you in a difficult position, but Xiao Xue doesn't want to live anymore. I truly have no other way out; I can only ask you for help."
After a long silence, Lu Zheng finally nodded.
"I'll treat her like a sister, but if she does anything out of line, I won't spare her."
"Good, good! No problem! Do whatever you want; I don't care as long as she can live," Captain Chi replied eagerly.
He hurriedly conveyed this news to Chi Xuecha. In his haste, he accidentally knocked over a teacup on the table, spilling tea on Guan Weiguang's pants.
The situation was awkward; he had no spare clothes and could only borrow a set from Lu Zheng.
She smiled gratefully at Captain Chi.
"Dad, you're still the one who loves me the most. I knew you were the best!"
She clung to Captain Chi's arm playfully while he looked at her with affection.
She had become so thin that she seemed like nothing but skin and bones; it was evident how much suffering she had endured.
He gently touched the red marks on Chi Xuecha's wrist, noticing that some areas had already broken skin.
Later on, she began to stick close to Lu Zheng. In the afternoon, she asked him to bring her some clothes. At that moment, Lu Zheng had urgent matters to attend to and could only send Guan Weiguang to help deliver them.
