The people around were stunned!
The impact of Chixue Tea's words was overwhelming. What she said was completely different from the usual demeanor of Captain Chi; it could even be described as the exact opposite. The troops believed that Captain Chi cherished Chixue Tea the most, to the extent that even his eldest son had to make concessions for her, while he himself was drifting on a small island.
To go to such lengths for his daughter, Captain Chi could be considered one of a kind. However, the situation was dire.
Captain Chi's expression froze, and the arms he held with his wife became rigid without them even realizing it. There was a hint of barely perceptible surprise on his face as he looked at Chixue Tea. His complexion turned ashen, and he felt as if his brain had gone blank with a loud thud! He wanted to strike Chixue Tea, but his arms felt as heavy as if they were burdened with a thousand pounds. He couldn't even lift them.
"You... you..."
Chixue Tea looked at the couple's hypocritical expressions and let out a cold laugh. Suddenly, she turned to Lu Zheng, her eyes shifting from provocation to sorrow, humiliation, and anger.
"Lu Zheng, did you think I could keep clinging to you without his indulgence? Did you think he was asking you for my sake? In reality, he was doing it for his own reputation, afraid that you would bring shame to him in front of the troops.
Does he not have his own selfish motives for indulging me? Does he not know that you are already married?"
Chixue Tea burst into laughter, her voice growing hoarse with each laugh, bitter tears streaming from the corners of her eyes. "He is doing this for his own future; if I can catch you, he gains another capable son-in-law. What’s not to gain in that?"
"Hahahaha!"
"You still naively believe he is a good leader and a good father? All of you have been completely deceived by him! My entire life has been ruined—ruined!"
Chixue Tea shouted in anger, but soon her voice became too hoarse to continue. She leaned against the force pulling her back, barely preventing herself from collapsing to the ground.
"Shut up!"
Chixue Tea was slapped down to the ground, and the person holding her quickly bent down to check on her, regretting that she had been knocked down because of him.
Chixue Tea's mother stood in front of her, trembling with rage, pointing at her with shaking fingers.

They were going to sell themselves, selling themselves for the chance to elevate their brother. She could no longer speak freely like the sky, voicing the words that had long been buried in her heart.
Lu Zheng, do you think my brother chose this island for no reason? Why was it your name that suddenly replaced my brother's?
Chi Xuecha raised her hand to touch the blood at the corner of her mouth, then brushed her hair back, smiling silently. She looked silently at the couple, Captain Chi and his wife. The veins on their foreheads throbbed; they sensed what Chi Xuecha was about to say and wanted to stop her but realized it was too late.
It was already too late!
That was because your beloved Captain Chi operated behind the scenes, deliberately using your and my situation to create a spectacle. It seemed arduous, but in reality, it was a golden opportunity for my brother that he handed over to me without a second thought!
You still foolishly express gratitude towards him; he nearly caused your death, yet you regard him as your benefactor.
Lu Zheng stood quietly beside them, observing this family. His fists clenched tightly at his sides, his gaze gradually turning cold, lips pressed together tightly.
The people around them were all old comrades of Captain Chi and had fought alongside Lu Zheng for many years. How could they not know what had happened back then? The quota had already been decided; it was just waiting for the announcement on the third day. But that announcement never came, and Lu Zheng was taken away!
On the third day, the quota fell onto Chi Xuecha's brother, claiming he had been promoted for Lu Zheng's sake—what a pity for him! Everyone praised Captain Chi and Chi Xuecha's brother as good leaders and comrades who could go to such lengths for Lu Zheng. It was truly touching.

Captain Chi turned to look at Lu Zheng; the panic in his eyes was impossible to conceal, even his movements and expressions bore a sinister pretense.
"Lu Zheng, don't listen to her nonsense. How could I possibly treat you this way?"
But in truth, everyone knew who was right and who was wrong. Yet deep down, they couldn't help but wonder if Chi Xuecha's words were false—was she saying this intentionally to drive a wedge between them?
Chi Xuecha sat down abruptly on the ground, propping herself up with her arms. She stopped speaking and simply looked at them with a cold smile. It seemed that the trust others placed in them only fueled her inner displeasure; thus she laughed coldly and disdainfully surveyed those around her.
"You all, none of you should think that you are unaffected. You have all been manipulated by him, all exploited for your labor! You are all victims!"
Chixue's gaze remained fixed on Lu Zheng, filled with struggle, helplessness, and sorrow. Initially, her approach to him was indeed to find a strong backing. He was good-looking, had a decent character, outstanding abilities, and a pleasant temperament; he would surely make a good husband. At the very least, he wouldn't be like that man with the surname Chi, a white-eyed wolf who would sell his own daughter or give her away.
However, the closer she got to him, the more she genuinely fell for him. She liked him entirely, greedily wanting to possess him, to make him hers alone. But how could he already have a wife?
That night, she lay awake, pondering through the hours. She felt that continuing to entangle herself with him was shameless and futile. Hadn't she lost her dignity long ago? Wasn't it gone when she was given away to others? That family of rural folk treated her like livestock, like a beast of burden. They saw her merely as a vessel for childbirth! A bridge to climb up to the Chi family, a ladder that could be summoned at will!
Since she had already lost her face, why should she care about others' opinions or judgments in the future? She had made one mistake after another until it led her to this point!
"Lu Zheng, you don't really think I did all of this on my own, do you?"
Lu Zheng lowered his gaze at her, his eyes devoid of any emotion, merely observing her calmly. "Lu Zheng," she continued desperately, "after all these years, how have I treated you? Surely you must know! You can't just believe those few words!"
Captain Chi anxiously tried to explain. Yet he was unaware that his own urgency had already fallen into Chixue's trap. His helplessness was the best evidence of his entrapment.
