Since Jiang Chen had started a conversation with the two girls, he decided to inquire about their situations and look for commonalities among them. One day, someone approached her, offering to help her parents get treatment and pay for her brother's education, but on one condition: she had to participate in the game. Without hesitation, Liu Zhi agreed; she would do anything to save her parents, even if it meant risking her own life.
Liang Hong's family was better off—not wealthy but comfortably middle-class. Her parents were healthy until one day a woman approached her and persuaded her to join the game.
From Liu Zhi's and Liang Hong's accounts, Jiang Chen picked up on an important piece of information: both girls had been meticulously selected as players by the Dark World, who used various reasons to entice them into voluntarily joining the game. Of course, most participants were also lured by the enticing reward of one billion.
Naturally, Liu Zhi and Liang Hong were no exception; who wouldn't be tempted by such a staggering amount?
"Mr. Jiang, how were you invited?" Liang Hong asked curiously. Unlike everyone else, Jiang Chen seemed unfazed—there was no hint of anxiety or tension on his face, as if he were merely here for a vacation.
"Me?" Jiang Chen smiled, momentarily taken aback before responding, "They have something I want, so I came." He had essentially invited himself; it was likely that the Dark World didn't want him here.
"Mr. Jiang, how about we form a team? Honestly, I don't have high hopes for that one billion anymore; I just want to stay safe. If we happen to win while teaming up, I won't take a single cent of that reward," Liang Hong said earnestly.
"Mr. Jiang, let's team up! Neither Liang Hong nor I want any money; please agree to join us," Liu Zhi added.
They believed that if Jiang Chen was reluctant to team up with them, it was because he feared they would take part of the one billion reward. So they made their intentions clear to reassure him that they wouldn’t compete with him for it.
"Do you think I'm unwilling to team up with you because I'm afraid you'll take my share of the one billion?" Jiang Chen laughed.
"Uh?" Liu Zhi and Liang Hong exchanged puzzled glances, unsure of how to respond.
"Isn't that the case?" they muttered softly; without money as a motive, they couldn't think of any other reason why Jiang Chen wouldn't want to team up.
"A mere one billion isn't something I concern myself with. The reason I'm not teaming up is simply that there's no need for it," Jiang Chen stated.
Liu Zhi and Liang Hong looked at each other in silence for a moment, doubting whether Jiang Chen was mentally sound.
"Haha! You don't care about one billion? You must be talking about one billion Zimbabwean dollars! Anyone can boast; I could say I don't care about one hundred trillion either!" A young man from a nearby table laughed at Jiang Chen's words.
