She generously handed her phone to Wei Jingxi, confident that she had nothing to hide since she had never discussed anything inappropriate. As for the conversations that were questionable but had already taken place, such as the chat logs about Zhou Minshi's proxy exam and previous cheating incidents, she had long since deleted them all.
There was nothing to fear in checking her phone. Wei Jingxi felt a mix of surprise and excitement; most girls would be annoyed if their partners wanted to check their phones, but he was almost going crazy with curiosity. He really wanted to know who Zheng Mengni chatted with when she was silent.
"Well, let me take a look," he said, putting on a serious face as if he were reluctantly obliged to glance at it since she had offered it to him.
He picked up the phone and scrolled down, but after a long time, he still hadn't reached the end. Zheng Mengni had so many chat contacts that he couldn't even count them.
Wei Jingxi was stunned. "How do you have so many people to talk to in a single day?" He didn't even know who to look at first!
"They're all classmates from my class, my department, and the student council. Asking about work and studies is pretty normal, right?" Zheng Mengni replied.
He casually opened a conversation and immediately noticed something suspicious: "He, male, asking about your event schedule." What was this? She had sent something back, and there was even a timestamp—screenshots from the group chat. Didn't he know how to scroll through the group chat himself? It was laughable how young and naive he seemed.
"What's this? Asking what you're having for lunch—are you the cafeteria manager? Why does it matter what you eat?"
"That's Shen Die, my roommate! We eat together every day," she explained.
Wei Jingxi continued scrolling until he finally found Zheng Mengni's latest chat log.
"Who is this?" he asked, squinting at the screen.
The message read: "Why did you delete all those songs? I wanted to hear you sing more. What a pity."
Zheng Mengni replied: "I'll post new ones when I have some free time."
"Ah, I'll be waiting for you."
Wei Jingxi's expression shifted as he recalled something. He hesitated before asking, "Did you really delete all those songs you posted?"
Zheng Mengni smiled, "What’s the point of keeping it?"
Wei Jingxi couldn't imagine that Zheng Mengni had deleted her work because of his words. If that were the case, he would have offended his wife before even getting married. He quickly tried to clear his name, "I’m not saying you shouldn’t find a substitute singer; you can definitely find one. Just ask me to help you sing instead. I bet I can sing a thousand times better than whoever you find. Just use a voice changer and tweak it in post-production; no one will notice."
"I don’t want to find a substitute singer anymore. I won’t slack off either. If I want to sing, I’ll just learn slowly myself, even if it takes longer because I lack talent."
"I can teach you! You’ve come to the right person."
"Really?"
"Yeah." Wei Jingxi raised his chin slightly, a hint of a smile curving at the corners of his mouth.
Zheng Mengni didn’t respond immediately. Wei Jingxi supported himself on her knee and stood up, looking down at her for a moment before slowly bending down to meet her gaze directly.
"What’s your reaction? Don’t believe me?"
Zheng Mengni shook her head, "No, I’m just really surprised." After saying that, she covered her mouth, her eyes sparkling with exaggerated excitement. "Oh my gosh, Wei Jingxi, you’re amazing! You can even sing!"
Wei Jingxi lowered his eyelids and replied coolly, "It’s nothing special; just professional singer level."
Zheng Mengni gave him credit, "Then Wei Laoshi, could you teach me? I really want to learn."
Wei Jingxi was about to agree but then recalled the annoying chat history. He pinched his throat and said in a sarcastic tone, "Oh, I’m waiting for you."
"What?"
"Oh, I’m waiting for you!"
Zheng Mengni was speechless, "Are you done yet?"
Feeling it was unfair, she spread her hands seriously, "It’s mutual. I showed you mine; now you have to show me yours."
When it came to checking phones, Wei Jingxi was no longer afraid; in fact, he wanted Zheng Mengni to see.
"Go ahead and look! I’m not like you; my friends are few and far between. If you don’t chat with me all day, who else will? If I can find a girl in my contacts who isn’t related by blood, I’ll write your name backwards and tattoo it on my body."
