On a night as gentle as flowing water, Zheng Mengni entwined her pinky finger with Wei Jingxi's, savoring the warmth of the person beside her.
She recalled something and asked, "Where is the last of the eleven flowers?"
Wei Jingxi glanced at his watch. "You'll find out soon."
Thirty minutes later, at the City Observation Tower.
The sky was painted in deep hues, where moonlight mingled with soft glimmers, and stars scattered like diamonds across the expanse. Wei Jingxi rested a hand on Zheng Mengni's shoulder, tilting his head to look at her.
In their silent exchange, emotions swirled wildly in their gazes. He reached out to gently stroke Zheng Mengni's silky hair, handling it as if it were a precious treasure.
"Ni Ni," he said, preparing to take a photo with his phone.
Just as his words fell, and mere seconds after Zheng Mengni pulled out her phone, the clock struck eight. The lights burst into a dazzling display.
Figures arranged in neat formations soared into the air, while drones danced gracefully against the deep blue sky.
As they reached the center of the city above, the orderly formation scattered like grains of sand. Colorful lights painted a picture across the satin-like night sky—red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple—transforming in myriad ways and sparkling brilliantly.
Suddenly, the lights from over two thousand drones extinguished simultaneously, plunging the night back into silence.
After a moment of stillness, lights flared up from left to right.
The drones quietly rearranged themselves behind the scenes to reveal a row of neatly aligned Chinese characters.
"Zheng Mengni! I, Wei Jingxi, will only love you forever!"
Zheng Mengni couldn't help but chuckle, glancing at the blushing figure beside her. "You really are direct with your sweet words."
"It's not like that," Wei Jingxi hurriedly explained. "I’ve never confessed before and didn’t know what to say; I just let them handle it."
As he spoke, his expression darkened further. "But seriously, how cheesy is this? I’m done; earning a high salary but not doing anything useful!"
"Well, it is a bit cheesy," Zheng Mengni quietly observed the drones still gracefully dancing in the night sky.
"Huh?"
Wei Jingxi looked flustered; the confession process was pretty much what he had envisioned. Inside, he felt satisfied but didn’t show all of his pride and delight on his face.
Hearing Zheng Mengni's acknowledgment felt quite cheesy to him, and his heart sank. He had already put the ring on; it was too late to back out now. If Zheng Mengni dared to refuse, he would... he would kiss her and not let her say a word until she agreed!
He thought to himself that while it sounded rather corny, she paused slightly, turning around with a smile as she continued, "If you could hear it in person, it should feel different, right?"
Ah.
Wei Jingxi's reaction was particularly slow; it took him several seconds to finally respond with an "ah." His breathing began to quicken, and his dark pupils remained still, like a computer that had crashed and was slowly rebooting. The entire process of regaining his senses felt excruciatingly slow.
Zheng Mengni's voice was soft as she said, "I want to hear you say it: you love me."
Wei Jingxi's face flushed bright red. "Why are you being so cheesy!"
Zheng Mengni shot him a meaningful glance at the night view. "Isn't it you who's being cheesy?"
In the next moment, Wei Jingxi covered her mouth with his hand. Her delicate face was left exposed, with only her pure and bright eyes visible, twinkling like little stars in the night sky.
"Zheng Mengni, I, Wei Jingxi, will love only you in this life!"
The world fell silent, leaving only the sound of their heartbeats resonating between them. Zheng Mengni gently pulled his hand away from her face, tilted her head slightly, and kissed Wei Jingxi's cool lips.
It was a soft touch, like a dragonfly skimming the water.
"You really are cheesy," she murmured.
"Yes, I believe you now," he replied.
"And if you dare to lie, I will never speak to you again."
