At the Henghai Welfare Institute, Zheng Mengni spotted Xia Shu outside the storeroom. Xia Shu was crouched on the ground like a small mushroom, hunching her back and grunting as if she were struggling with something.
Wang Xia had asked her to find a few sturdy bags for sand, to serve as backup sandbags in case there were any gaps that needed to be filled. As she passed by Xia Shu, a sudden cry escaped her lips, and she fell to the ground, rolling in pain while clutching her arm.
Zheng Mengni bit her lip and quietly pulled away the foot that Xia Shu had inadvertently stepped on. She crouched down and gently asked, "Shu Shu, what happened?"
Gripping Xia Shu's wrist, she focused on the raw skin of her elbow, which was bleeding. A chill washed over her as she saw the blood. The sight frightened her; there was a one-in-ten chance it could be related to Zheng Yicheng.
Instinctively, Zheng Mengni reached out to wipe away Xia Shu's blood, as if doing so could cover up something deeper. But she forgot that it was a gaping wound; applying pressure only made Xia Shu wince in pain.
"That crazy woman!" Xia Shu screamed, a cold glint flashing in her eyes.
In Xia Shu's pained gaze, Zheng Mengni saw a reflection of her own slightly indifferent and malicious face.
"I'm sorry, Shu Shu," she said softly. "I just wanted to help stop the bleeding. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Xia Shu pushed Zheng Mengni's chin away forcefully, glaring at her with anger while muttering incomprehensibly.
Zheng Mengni was forced to tilt her head back, leaving bloody fingerprints on her pale face. Tears welled up in her eyes as she grasped Xia Shu's arm, inadvertently pressing against the wound again, feeling it dampen under her palm.
"Shu Shu..."
Her voice was delicate and soft, almost breaking as she fought back tears.
Xia Shu stared in shock at the breathtaking beauty before her, feeling as if she were entranced by this captivating figure. Being so close, she was almost spellbound by the woman’s enchanting looks. As long as Zheng Mengni existed, there would be no chance for Xia Shu to rise above her.
Whenever she was near Tan Yan, that man could no longer accommodate anyone else in his gaze. Moreover, this woman appeared delicate and soft, yet her heart was wickedly cruel. She bullied Xia Shu, who had a mental disability, and even deliberately pinched her wounds.
Such a malicious woman was utterly unworthy of Tan Yan!
Finally, after much indecision, Xia Shu made her choice. She forcefully shook off Zheng Mengni and rushed out the door, clutching her arm where she had intentionally hurt herself. With a click, she locked the door behind her.
Xia Shu tucked the key into her pocket, hiding it away, and looked at the bloody wound on her arm with a faint smile. Thankfully, she had been ruthless enough to inflict the injury. Just this amount of blood would be enough to send Wang Xia into a frenzy for a while.
The warehouse was underground with no signal to send out any messages. Her earlier screams had merely been a test of the soundproofing. Coupled with the thunderstorm outside, even if Zheng Mengni screamed at the top of her lungs, no one would come to her rescue.
On the day of the health check, Zheng Mengni had taken her sample. Sooner or later, their identities would be exposed; it was better to deal with this vile woman first.
Leaning against the stair railing, Xia Shu smugly sent a message to her boss. “Boss, if that young lady quietly dies in this Hong Lao incident, wouldn’t our plan be half successful?”
She didn’t dare linger there for long and was about to tuck her phone back into her pocket to find Wang Xia when she received a reply from her boss.
“.”
A period? What did that mean?
Xia Shu was left puzzled.
Inside the storage room, Zheng Mengni slowly turned around, thoughtfully staring at the tightly closed door.
She deliberately hurt Xia Shu. After observing for several days, it was clear that although Xia Shu had intellectual deficiencies, her tendency to seek revenge for even the smallest grievances was her most notable trait.
