The snow had just stopped, and the city was shrouded in a damp mist, with vehicles flowing endlessly through the dazzling lights of the night. Zheng Mengni had just finished dinner with Shen Die and was leisurely walking along the road to digest her meal. The ground was slippery, and they were being very careful with each step.
"So, you still haven't managed to get that little star out?" Shen Die asked, bringing up the topic of gifts in the livestream. She couldn't help but laugh; she never expected there would be someone like Zheng Mengni who couldn't handle a tough nut to crack.
Zheng Mengni paused slightly, smiling without saying a word as she pressed her lips together. She hadn't intended to develop any kind of connection with Feng Youxian. Initially, sending gifts in the livestream was just a way to tease Ye Bingran, and looking back now, it did seem a bit childish.
Shen Die still couldn't understand: "If you ask me, he just doesn't know what you look like. Why don't I take a picture of you right now? Just send it directly to that guy, and I guarantee within half an hour, he’ll be rushing over."
Zheng Mengni's mind was completely elsewhere. With a gentle smile, she casually replied, "How could that be?"
"What? You don't believe me?!" Shen Die exclaimed, stamping her foot in frustration. The ground was wet and slippery again, and she lost her balance, grabbing Zheng Mengni's sleeve for support.
Zheng Mengni snapped back to reality and quickly steadied her friend. In a tone akin to soothing a child, she said softly, "I believe you; of course I do."
Noticing that Zheng Mengni seemed distracted, Shen Die grew anxious again: "You really don’t believe me! How about we make a bet?"
Zheng Mengni complied: "What shall we bet on?"
"Let’s bet whether you can take a picture right now and send it over to see if you can get Feng Youxian out. I've never seen someone so full of themselves; he's just an illegitimate child—let's see how proud he is."
Zheng Mengni handed over her phone, subtly interrupting Shen Die's chatter. With a bright smile, she said, "Alright then, go ahead and take it."
Shen Die pulled up the camera but frowned: "No, the lighting is bad; it’ll affect my performance."
As she spoke, she pulled Zheng Mengni into the bustling square at the center of the crowd where dazzling lights cascaded down into the enchanting night.
"Right here; stand still," Shen Die instructed.
Zheng Mengni obediently stood in the spot designated by Shen Die, her black curls tucked under a fluffy hat that only revealed her sparkling dark eyes. Her skin glowed with a rosy hue, and her pink lips formed a serene smile.
Shen Die leaned forward to guide her: "Sweetheart, relax! This isn’t an ID photo; we don’t want him thinking you’re just showing him your identification."
Zheng Mengni nodded and adjusted her hat before raising her small hand next to her cheek in a playful gesture.
Shen Die was about to say something when suddenly Zheng Mengni turned her head to look behind her. The snow framed her delicate profile beautifully, and her dark eyes sparkled with light.
She stood there in a daze, more natural than when she had deliberately posed moments ago.
Shen Die pressed the shutter button, capturing the moment as the boy in the black fisherman hat unexpectedly entered the frame.
Zheng Mengni was slightly taken aback; she instinctively turned her head and found herself staring into his clear, water-like eyes. The colorful lights reflected off his sharply defined chin, and in that fleeting moment, his beautifully shaped lips subtly lifted, revealing a faint smile.
They exchanged silent glances, and his direct gaze did not make Zheng Mengni feel uncomfortable at all. She slowly raised her eyes again, meeting his gaze beneath the brim of his hat.
His face was unfamiliar yet attractive, carrying an inexplicable sense of familiarity in his expression.
