Tan Yan had fallen hard, kneeling on the ground for a long time without being able to get up.
Zheng Mengni, realizing what had happened, rushed over in a fluster to help him, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. She wanted to say it wasn’t intentional, but as soon as she spoke, it would expose her intentions. Besides, that statement lacked any real persuasive power. They already had a grudge against each other, and now it seemed like she had added fuel to the fire.
Zheng Mengni bit her lip in silence, her breathing slowing down. Tan Yan propped himself up with his hands on the ground, while Zheng Mengni pressed down on his knee that had hit the floor, rubbing it gently. Her actions were not meant to comfort him but were a shallow expression of her apology.
In her heart, she chanted:
It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt.
Tan Yan sighed, “You’re so strong.”
When Zheng Mengni didn’t hear any response from him, she thought he was no longer in pain and loosened her grip on his knee, grabbing his arm instead in an attempt to pull him up from the ground.
Tan Yan remained completely still.
What’s going on?
Zheng Mengni stared at him for a long time. He was just lying there; was he trying to play her for a fool? She initially came to test whether he was truly blind, but now the situation left her feeling a bit confused.
But she couldn’t just leave empty-handed. This opportunity was rare, and Zheng Mengni was unwilling to walk away just like that.
Almost immediately, she reached out and removed Tan Yan's Blindfold Sunglasses. If he was truly blind, he wouldn’t know who had done this mischievous act. If he wasn’t blind… then her guess would be right!
As the sunglasses were removed, the deep, tranquil pupils reflected her astonished face. Never before had he gazed at her with such intensity and seriousness.
Before Zheng Mengni could react, Tan Yan reached out and suddenly pulled her slender body closer, gently yet firmly crashing her into his embrace.
"Tan Yan," she called out softly, her body jolting as if stung by a bee, clearly taken aback.
Tan Yan held her tightly, raising his hand to press against the back of her head, pushing her towards his neck. The girl's gentle breath brushed against his skin, warm and delicate. "Tan Yan, you... you’re not blind."
Before she could finish her sentence, Tan Yan tightened his grip on Zheng Mengni even more, his dark eyes fixed on the pale wall ahead, an icy aura surrounding them.
"Zheng... Zheng?" He mimicked Guan Su Lin's tone, each word deliberate and his voice hoarse. It felt awkward indeed; only someone desperate for attention would give her such a peculiar nickname.
"What are you doing here?"
Zheng Mengni's hands hovered in mid-air as she tilted her head back, trapped between his legs. Her eyes were wide and beautiful, feigning helplessness while her mind raced to figure out how to navigate the current situation.
"I want to ask you the same thing—how come you're with Guan Su Lin?" Tan Yan countered.
In the absence of a clear answer, remaining silent was also an option.
Zheng Mengni stayed quiet.
Tan Yan calmly asked, "You're not with him, right?"
A sudden realization struck Zheng Mengni as she sensed something; she attempted to subtly turn the tables. "I don't know why you're asking this question, so I don't know how to answer."
"How obvious does it have to be for it to be considered obvious?" Tan Yan smirked self-deprecatingly.
Zheng Mengni shivered slightly and pushed against him while probing, "Tan Yan, so are you planning to force me to break up with my boyfriend?"
"Should I admit it?"
"Do you want me to admit it?"
"Do you think I'm crazy for admitting this?"
He must have lost his mind.
Using underhanded tactics to drive one person away after another.
Feigning ignorance, Zheng Mengni asked, "Why? Just because of those songs? I told you it wasn't me singing; you've mistaken the person."
"Whoever sings doesn't matter to me anymore."
Tan Yan smiled as he pushed her body away, then suddenly grasped her chin and kissed her forcefully.
