Ye Bingran always left early and returned late, sometimes even being away on business for several months at a time. Zheng Mengni was not the clingy type; on the contrary, she had been independent her whole life. However, whenever Ye Bingran was not by her side, she was plagued by nightmares.
In her dreams, she often encountered vague yet vividly felt scenarios. The dream was so realistic that she could clearly see every detail of the accident and the position in which Ye Bingran lay injured and unconscious.
Zheng Mengni struggled to wake up from the nightmare, her breath coming in quick gasps as she pressed her hand against her heaving chest. Her legs felt weak from fear, and she hurriedly reached for her phone to check on Ye Bingran. But no matter how hard she tried, the dial button wouldn’t respond. An ominous feeling crept over her, making Zheng Mengni doubt the reality of her dream.
The thought that Xiao Ye Ge, who had taken care of her for so many years, might die before her eyes sent her into a panic that she couldn’t shake off. Suddenly, she heard a calm voice say, "Are you sure you want to give him a warning?"
Zheng Mengni forced herself to remain composed. "What do you mean? Who are you?"
"It doesn’t matter who I am; what matters is who you are."
Zheng Mengni whispered, "I am me; who else could I be?"
"This is not the world you live in. Do you remember the dreams you've been having lately?"
Zheng Mengni bit her lip in silence, lost in thought. The calm voice continued to transmit strange yet familiar memories into her mind. She lived in another world where she had loving family members, a thriving career, and many friendly companions.
Although Zheng Mengni didn’t understand why she found herself here, she felt more inclined to believe the memories she had just received than the incomplete and blank ones from before.
With newfound calmness, Zheng Mengni asked, "What do I need to do to get there?"
"Ye Bingran must die in the car accident."
Zheng Mengni's breath caught in her throat, her voice trembling as she asked, "Does he have to die no matter what?"
"You've seen it too. In your world, Ye Bingran is still by your side, and your relationship is very strong. Perhaps he would even be willing to live in your world?"
Zheng Mengni shook her head.
No, that’s not right. How could Ye Bingran be willing to abandon everything he has to go to a world that doesn’t belong to him? She had witnessed his efforts over the years.

Zheng Mengni's gaze was resolute. "Even if the outcome cannot be changed, I still want to try. He has taken care of me all these years; he is no different from family. How can I just stand by and watch an important person leave me?"

Zheng Mengni continued to shake her head. She was a stubborn person, convinced that things would never change.

Zheng Mengni smiled gently. "What does it matter? According to the memories you gave me, it seems that my other self wasn’t great from the start either. Since I was able to achieve it once, I can certainly do it again."
She paused for a moment and added firmly, "Moreover, mediocrity isn’t predetermined; it’s something I can control myself."
