We found a café and sat down. She had just finished crying, her eyes still red.
"How about some hot chocolate?" I suggested, ordering her a cup.
The atmosphere felt heavy; after all, I was facing a woman who had just wept, and I didn't know what to say. But she spoke first.
"Thank you for bringing me out," she said, forcing a smile that couldn't quite hide her exhaustion.
"My name is Chen Shuqin, and I'm Gao Qing's wife."
I nodded. "I know."
She took a sip of the hot chocolate and began to speak slowly.
"I used to be like you, struggling in the workplace, working late into the night just to create a beautiful proposal."
A complex emotion flickered in her eyes—nostalgia mingled with regret.
"Then I married Gao Qing and had children, and I became who I am now."
She gazed at the children playing nearby, her eyes softening with tenderness.
"Every day revolves around the kids—grocery shopping, cooking, laundry, cleaning—I’ve almost forgotten my own name."
"If it weren't for that video you shared, I wouldn't have known he was living so well outside."
She let out a bitter laugh.
"I thought that after all I sacrificed, at least he should appreciate me, but..."
I listened quietly to her story.
Like all housewives, she once had her own career and was a force to be reckoned with. But after getting married and having children, everything changed. She transformed from a career woman into the typical tired housewife.
"I remember in college, Gao Qing always liked to follow me around. He said I was independent and strong, different from other girls."
"I thought at the time that these compliments were his special attention towards me. Looking back now, he might have just not met anyone better."
Chen Shuqin's eyes reddened as she spoke. "After we got married, he did work hard for a while, but then I discovered he was cheating."
"At first, I couldn't believe it until he came home at midnight, smelling of another woman's perfume."
"I asked him about it, and he claimed he was working late, but his chat records revealed the truth."
"He even lied to me, saying those messages were work-related. Can you believe that?"
Chen Shuqin wiped her tears and showed me the screenshots of the conversations between Gao Qing and Lin Jinping. As I looked at the explicit messages, I fell into deep thought. It turned out that Gao Qing used these records to deceive his wife into thinking I was the one having an affair. No wonder Chen Shuqin hated me so much.
I sighed and said, "Chen Shuqin, do you know why you think Gao Qing's affair partner is me?"
She was taken aback. "Isn't it?"
I shook my head and explained what happened that night. After hearing my explanation, she finally understood.
"So there really isn't a mistress at all?"
I nodded. "That night I was in a meeting; as for the WeChat messages, they were from Lin Jinping."
Chen Shuqin fell silent, and after a long while, she finally spoke.
"I'm sorry, I misunderstood you."
Her face was filled with guilt as she lowered her head, unable to meet my gaze.
"It's okay," I replied softly. "But do you know who sent you the Curse Letter?"
She looked up at me. "Was it Lin Jinping?"
I smiled slightly. "Not necessarily; she's just one of them."
Chen Shuqin's realization dawned on her completely.
She looked at me and said firmly, "Can you give me Lin Jinping's contact information? I want to settle the score with her."
I countered, "What do you plan to do? Just confront her and then go home to continue being a housewife?"
She was taken aback.
