In the nanny car of Li Hui, I nervously texted Chen Shuqin, asking Xiao An to take care of her. I also messaged a lawyer friend, instructing him to answer any questions Chen Shuqin might have, with the fees covered by me.
Xiao An replied, "Sister Hui, don't worry. Sister Shuqin is stronger than I imagined."
"For a mother, she must be tough. She will definitely pull through," I reflected.
"Yes, we women are not that fragile."
"If we are bullied, we will fight back."
Li Hui, with keen ears, caught my words. He pouted and said, "Wife, you've praised her so much; can you at least look at me?"
"I vented my frustrations for you today."
I nodded in agreement. "Right, right, and there's you."
"Li Hui, thanks to you today, I was able to fight back successfully."
Li Hui acted all proud. "Of course! Just look at who my husband is."
I smiled and wrapped my arms around Li Hui's neck, giving him a kiss.
Li Hui pointed to his lips and said, "Here, and here too."
I shot him a playful glare. "Li Hui, why can't you be serious?"
"This is in the car; there's a driver in front," I reminded him.
Li Hui shrugged it off. "I'm just kissing my own wife; it's not illegal."
"They can't see us."
Unable to resist Li Hui's insistence, I finally leaned in and pecked his lips.
Li Hui looked satisfied.
The next day, Li Hui's name quickly rose to the top five on trending searches.
Li Hui had been in a hidden marriage for many years. He was a devoted husband, having been married for five years. When I opened the trending topics, all I saw were fans of Li Hui lamenting.
“Brother, how could you get married?”
“Brother, didn’t you say you would never marry?”
“Brother, what am I supposed to do now that you’re married?”
The comments were flooded with pink hearts, echoing the cries of shattered young hearts. Li Hui had done a great job protecting our privacy; there was no mention of me anywhere.
I exited the trending topic and noticed Li Hui was looking at his phone. I leaned in and caught sight of my name.
Li Hui's post read: "The idea of a hidden marriage was proposed by my sister-in-law; my brother couldn’t bear to refuse."
I couldn’t help but chuckle. Li Hui looked at me with a pitiful expression and asked, “Wife, how should we handle this?”
“Cut through the chaos quickly and deal with it.”
“I don’t want any issues in my career,” he replied earnestly.
Li Hui nodded obediently, “Understood, my dear wife.”
At the company, Lin Jinping had been slacking off for too long and was fired. Gao Qing submitted his resignation and prepared for the handover. The lawyer informed me that Gao Qing was unwilling to divorce. Chen Shuqin was adamant about wanting a divorce and demanded half of Gao Qing’s assets. She threatened him that if he didn’t agree, she would take him to court.
She had already obtained evidence of Gao Qing's infidelity. If Gao Qing refused to cooperate, she would make him leave with nothing. Gao Qing was furious, but there was nothing he could do about it.
Chen Shuqin returned to her hometown with the child and found a more suitable job. Everything was moving in a better direction. As for Lin Jinping, her career was nearly over. After losing so much face, her reputation at the company plummeted. At home, her husband treated her with disdain.
Lin Jinping had been harsh in the past and had offended many people. Now, they were all turning against her. She had no choice but to face the reality of becoming a full-time mother. The public's attitude towards her shifted from sympathy to condemnation. Now, she had lost her job, and her family was falling apart. Former friends distanced themselves from her, and some even anonymously exposed her past misdeeds online.
Meanwhile, Chen Shuqin found a satisfying job in her hometown. Although the salary was not as high as before, it was stable and comfortable. She finally escaped the painful marriage and began a new life with her child.
Li Hui cherished his relationship with his wife even more. He realized that true happiness did not come from external validation but from having someone by his side who understood and supported him. Thus, he decided to cut back on work-related socializing and spend more time with his family.
