Chapter Two
A wave of dizziness washed over me.
I opened my eyes and found myself in an unfamiliar environment.
I was in a desolate stretch of the Gobi Desert, barren and lifeless, with only endless yellow sand and a biting cold wind.
"Welcome to the Survival Challenge Game, Li Feng."
A cold mechanical voice echoed in my mind.
"I am X, here to guide you through the game."
I looked around, my eyes filled with caution.
"The rules of the game are simple: survive."
The voice of System X rang out again.
"In this world, you must rely on your own abilities to acquire resources, fend off various dangers, and ultimately survive."
"You have a three-day protection period. During these three days, you will receive some basic resources and access to the Light Brain."
A palm-sized metallic device appeared out of thin air in my hand.
I picked up the Light Brain and examined it closely.
The screen of the Light Brain displayed various information, including my personal status, game rules, maps, and more.
"The map indicates that you are currently at the edge of the Gobi Desert, approximately five kilometers from the nearest Resource Point."
The voice of System X echoed at the right moment.
"I suggest you head to the Resource Point as soon as possible to gather necessary survival supplies."
I tucked away the Light Brain and fixed my determined gaze on the horizon.
"It seems this game is not as simple as it appears."
Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward.
The winds of the Gobi Desert were fierce, making it difficult for me to keep my eyes open.
I trudged onward, each step feeling exceptionally heavy.
After about an hour of walking, I finally spotted the Resource Point in the distance.
It was an abandoned factory, dilapidated and seemingly on the verge of collapse.
I quickened my pace towards the factory.
Upon entering, I discovered that the situation inside was worse than I had imagined.
The factory was in disarray, littered with scattered machine parts and debris.
A pungent chemical odor filled the air, making me feel nauseous.
"System, scan the interior of the factory for usable resources," I instructed the Light Brain.
"Scan complete. There are small amounts of food, water, and weapons within the factory."
The voice of System X quickly echoed.
"The food is located in the Cafeteria, the water source is in the Underground Water Storage Room, and the weapons are in the Factory Warehouse."
I nodded and began searching for resources as directed by the Light Brain.
In the Cafeteria, I found some canned goods and compressed biscuits.
Although these foods were expired, they could at least stave off hunger for a while.
In the Underground Water Storage Room, I discovered some uncontaminated drinking water.
This water would be enough to sustain me for several days.
In the Factory Warehouse, I came across some rusty weapons, including a dagger, a handgun, and some bullets.
Though their condition was not great, it was better than having nothing.
I packed all the resources I found into my backpack and then left the factory.
After exiting the factory, I continued deeper into the Gobi Desert.
"System, where is the next Resource Point?"
I asked.
"The next Resource Point is located approximately ten kilometers away at a Desert Oasis."
"Desert Oasis?"
A thought stirred within me.
"There should be more abundant resources there, right?"
"Yes, the Desert Oasis is rich in water sources, vegetation, and animal resources," System X replied.
"But at the same time, it is also much more dangerous."
"Dangerous?"
I furrowed my brow.
"What kind of danger?"
"The Desert Oasis is a gathering place for various creatures, including some dangerous predators," System X explained.
"Additionally, the climate in the Desert Oasis is harsher, with extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night, which can easily lead to dehydration and heatstroke."
I took a deep breath, a glimmer of determination flashing in my eyes.
"No matter how dangerous it is, I must go."
"To survive, I have no choice."
"System, please plan the best route to the Desert Oasis."
"Route planning complete. It is recommended that you travel along the edge of the Gobi Desert to avoid the central area of the desert."
"Understood."
I walked along the edge of the Gobi Desert, heading towards the Desert Oasis.
As dusk approached, the temperature in the Gobi Desert began to drop.
I tightened my clothing and quickened my pace.
Suddenly, I heard a rustling sound in the distance.
My heart raced, and I immediately stopped, scanning my surroundings warily.
"What is that sound?"
I whispered.
The voice of System X soon responded.
"Unidentified creature detected nearby, quantity unknown. Danger level assessment in progress..."
