Chapter Three
"Unknown lifeform detected nearby, quantity unknown, danger level under assessment..."
The voice of System X heightened my anxiety.
I tightened my grip on the dagger, my eyes scanning the surroundings warily.
The rustling sound grew closer, and I felt my heart racing faster.
Suddenly, a massive scorpion emerged from behind a sand dune.
This scorpion was over a meter long, its body pitch black, and the stinger at its tail glimmered ominously.
"Danger level: High."
The voice of System X echoed in my mind.
"Immediate evasion recommended."
I couldn't afford to hesitate; I turned and ran without a second thought.
The Giant Scorpion moved swiftly, quickly closing the distance behind me.
As I ran, I glanced back to gauge the Giant Scorpion's position.
Its venomous stinger lunged toward me repeatedly, forcing me to dodge clumsily.
"System, is there any way to deal with it?" I asked while sprinting.
"According to scan results, the Giant Scorpion's weakness is its head," System X replied.
"Weapon attack on the head is advised."
I nodded and pulled a handgun from my backpack.
Aiming at the Giant Scorpion's head, I pulled the trigger.
Bang!
With a loud gunshot, the bullet struck the Giant Scorpion's head.
The Giant Scorpion let out a piercing screech, its body shaking violently.
Seizing the opportunity, I quickened my pace and distanced myself from the Giant Scorpion.
After struggling for a moment, the Giant Scorpion finally collapsed to the ground, motionless.
I breathed a sigh of relief and approached the Giant Scorpion's corpse.
"System, scan the Giant Scorpion's body for usable resources," I said.
"Scan complete. The Giant Scorpion contains potent venom and is not edible," came System X's voice.
"However, its shell can be used to craft armor, and its venomous stinger can be used to create weapons."
I nodded and began collecting the Giant Scorpion's remains.
After placing the shell and stinger into my backpack, I continued on my journey.
After walking for about two hours, I finally arrived at the Desert Oasis.
The sight of the Desert Oasis was breathtaking.
It was lush with trees and flowing water, a stark contrast to the desolate Gobi Desert.
I walked over to a small stream and bent down to drink a few sips of water.
The clear stream brought a refreshing sensation to me.
"System, scan the oasis environment and search for available resources," I said.
"Scan complete. The oasis contains abundant water sources, vegetation, and animal resources," the voice of System X responded.
"In addition, some special energy fluctuations have been detected."
"Energy fluctuations?" A spark of curiosity ignited within me.
"What kind of energy fluctuations?"
"Unable to determine. Further detection is required," System X replied.
I nodded, deciding to explore the oasis further.
I walked along the stream and discovered that the oasis was larger than I had imagined.
A variety of plants grew here, some of which I had never seen before.
I also spotted some small animals that resembled rabbits and mice, among others.
"System, scan these plants and animals to see if there is anything valuable," I instructed.
"Scan complete. Some plants have medicinal value, and certain animals can serve as a food source," System X answered.
I nodded and began to gather some useful plants and hunt small animals.
Just then, I suddenly felt a wave of dizziness wash over me.
I quickly leaned against a nearby tree to avoid falling.
"What’s happening?" I wondered to myself.
"System, what’s wrong with my body?"
"The system has detected that your body is undergoing mutation; the specific cause is unknown," the voice of System X echoed in my mind.
"Mutation?" I was taken aback.
"What kind of mutation?"
"Analyzing..." System X replied.
I felt my body growing hotter, as if a powerful energy was surging within me.
Illusions began to appear before my eyes, revealing strange visions.
"Warning! The speed of your body's mutation is increasing. Please prepare yourself!" System X's voice suddenly became urgent.
I took a deep breath, striving to stay alert.
I needed to figure out what was happening as soon as possible.
"System, show me my attribute panel."
I suppressed my discomfort and spoke.
A flash of light passed, and my attribute panel appeared before my eyes.
