Chapter Four
My heartbeat gradually calmed down.
I began to carefully examine the changes on my attribute panel.
Both my Intelligence and Spirit attributes had increased by 10 points, which was undoubtedly a significant boost.
"System, what caused this?" I asked.
"Preliminary analysis indicates that it may be related to the special energy you absorbed," System X replied.
"Special energy?" I furrowed my brow.
"What kind of special energy is in the Oasis?"
"According to the scan results, there is an energy source in the Oasis Central Area that is emitting an unknown type of energy," System X explained.
"This energy seems to enhance the Intelligence and Spirit attributes of living beings."
"So, my mutation is due to absorbing this energy?" I pondered aloud.
"That is highly likely," System X confirmed.
"I recommend that you head to the Oasis Central Area for further investigation."
I nodded, deciding to head to the Oasis Central Area to investigate further.
On the way to the Oasis Central Area, I opened the World Channel and the Regional Channel.
The World Channel was flooded with various messages pouring in like a waterfall.
"Help! I'm being chased by a Giant Spider!"
"Is anyone willing to team up? Let's explore the ruins together!"
"Advanced Weapons for sale, price negotiable!"
"…"
The information on the Regional Channel was relatively sparse, mostly consisting of nearby players seeking help or trading.
"Does anyone have extra food? I'm starving!"
"I found a mine; is anyone interested in mining together?"
"…"
I browsed through these messages, trying to find some useful clues.
I noticed that most players had fairly ordinary talents, such as Power Enhancement, Speed Boost, and Stamina Enhancement.
In contrast, my talent, Invisibility, seemed quite special.
Additionally, I observed that some players had already begun forming teams to explore the game world together.
It seemed that cooperation was key to survival.
I closed the chat channels and continued on my way.
After about an hour of walking, I finally arrived at the Oasis Central Area.
There was a massive altar here, emanating a faint blue glow.
Strange plants grew around the altar, twinkling with starlight.
"System, scan the altar and the surrounding environment," I said.
"Scan complete. The altar is composed of unknown materials and is emitting a special type of energy," replied System X.
"This energy is consistent with what you absorbed earlier."
"It seems this is the source of the energy," I concluded as I approached the altar, examining it closely.
The altar was covered in mysterious runes that I couldn't decipher at all.
"System, can you interpret these runes?" I asked.
"Unable to interpret. These runes do not belong to any known civilization's script," System X responded.
I felt a bit disappointed but did not give up.
As I circled the altar, I discovered an entrance at the back.
At the entrance was an Energy Barrier that prevented me from entering.
"System, can you break through this Energy Barrier?" I inquired.
"Attempting to breach..."
"System X," replied the voice.
After a moment, the voice of System X echoed again.
"Decryption failed; the strength of the Energy Barrier is too high to breach."
I frowned, realizing I would have to think of another way.
Just then, I suddenly heard footsteps approaching.
Someone was coming!
I quickly hid behind a tree and activated my Invisibility Skill.
Soon, a figure appeared in my line of sight.
It was a tall man, wielding a long sword, his eyes scanning the surroundings with caution.
"There’s definitely something strange here," he muttered to himself.
"It seems my suspicion was correct."
"What suspicion?"
Another voice chimed in.
A petite woman stepped out from behind the man.
"I suspect this is the Core Area of the game world," she said.
"If we can control this place, we can control the entire game."
"Is that true?"
The woman exclaimed excitedly.
"Does that mean we are invincible?"
"Exactly," the man replied with a smug smile.
"As long as we can control this altar, we will gain immense power."
"Then what are we waiting for?" the woman urged.
"Let's hurry inside!"
"Not so fast," the man said.
"We need to break this Energy Barrier first."
He approached the altar and began to study the Energy Barrier.
I hid behind a tree, thinking to myself, "It seems my competitors have arrived."
"System, can you hear what they are saying?"
