Chapter Five
"System, can you hear what they are saying?" I asked.
"Yes," System X replied.
"They are discussing how to break the Energy Barrier."
I continued to hide behind the tree, listening to their conversation.
The man seemed at a loss regarding how to breach the Energy Barrier.
"Damn it!" he cursed.
"The structure of this Energy Barrier is too complex."
"Are we just going to give up?" the woman said, a hint of reluctance in her voice.
"Of course not," the man replied.
"I will definitely find a way to break it."
He continued to study the Energy Barrier, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
I couldn't help but chuckle inwardly; it seemed this man was not as capable as he thought.
I decided to wait and see if they could find a way to breach the Energy Barrier.
If they succeeded, I would follow them in.
If they failed, I would come up with my own plan.
Time ticked by, and the man still had not found a solution.
"No way!" he said, sitting down on the ground in despair.
"I can't crack it."
"What should we do then?" the woman asked.
"Are we really going to give up?"
"No, I have another idea," the man suddenly thought of something.
"We can break through the Energy Barrier with brute force."
"Brute force?" the woman asked, puzzled.
"How do we use brute force?"
"We can use explosives to blow up the Energy Barrier," the man explained.
"Although this will consume a lot of resources, it's better than coming back empty-handed."
"Great idea!" the woman exclaimed excitedly.
"Let's do it!" The man took out several sticks of dynamite from his backpack and began to set them up.
I was taken aback; I never expected they would consider using explosives on the Energy Barrier.
What would I do if they actually blew it open?
I had to stop them!
Just as I was about to reveal myself to intervene, the voice of System X suddenly echoed.
"Warning! High-energy reaction detected!"
"What?"
I was taken aback.
"What’s going on?"
"The explosives are about to detonate!" System X replied.
"Please evacuate the explosion area immediately!"
I hurriedly ran back.
Boom!
A deafening roar erupted as the explosives detonated.
The Energy Barrier shook violently but did not shatter.
"Damn it!" the man cursed.
"It didn’t blow up!"
"What should we do?" the woman asked.
"Should we try to detonate it again?"
"No, we can’t blow it up again," the man said. "We’ve run out of explosives."
I hid at a distance, secretly relieved.
Thank goodness I didn’t step in to stop them; otherwise, I would have surely been injured by the blast.
"What do we do now?" the woman asked.
"Are we just going to give up?"
"No, I have one last resort," the man said.
"We can utilize my special ability."
"Your special ability?" the woman asked, puzzled.
"What ability is that?"
"My special ability is Energy Absorption," the man explained. "I can absorb the energy from the Energy Barrier, thereby weakening its strength."
"Really?" the woman asked, her eyes lighting up with excitement. "That's wonderful!"
The man approached the Energy Barrier and began to absorb its energy. Indeed, the strength of the Energy Barrier started to diminish.
I thought to myself, "It seems my opportunity has come."
I quietly moved closer to the Energy Barrier, preparing to slip into the altar.
Just then, the man suddenly stopped.
"What's wrong?" the woman asked.
"Why aren't you continuing to absorb energy?"
"I feel a bit unwell," the man replied. "It seems like something is interfering with me."
I was startled. Could he have discovered me?
I quickly activated my Invisibility Skill.
"What’s going on?" the woman asked.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm fine," the man replied.
"It must be my imagination," he continued, as he absorbed the energy from the Energy Barrier.
The strength of the Energy Barrier continued to decline.
I moved closer to the Energy Barrier, preparing to enter the altar.
Just then, the man suddenly turned around and looked in my direction.
"Who’s there?" he asked.
My heart raced; he had indeed noticed me!
What should I do?
"Come out!" the man commanded again.
