Chapter Five
How can we shake off the Tiger Beastman and continue with our mission?
I held Xiao Jin in my arms, and we stared at each other, both feeling a bit helpless.
"Xiao Jin, do you have any tricks up your sleeve that could take down that big guy in one go?" I asked with a wry smile.
Xiao Jin tilted its head in thought, then shook it, its golden eyes filled with helplessness.
"It seems we'll have to rely on our wits," I sighed, looking around.
The lake was quite large, with crystal-clear water that revealed schools of colorful fish swimming gracefully beneath the surface.
Dense vegetation grew along the shore, and the occasional sound of birdsong broke the tranquility.
"That beastman doesn't seem to be able to swim, so we're safe for now," I said, feeling a bit more at ease.
"But we can't just stay here forever..."
"Ugh..."
Xiao Jin seemed to sense my anxiety and gently nuzzled my cheek.
"Don't worry, Xiao Jin, we'll find a way," I said reassuringly.
I patted its head lightly, forcing myself to calm down.
"Right now, the most important thing is to conserve our strength and then think of a solution."
I murmured to myself before closing my eyes and beginning to regulate my breathing.
I lost track of time until I was jolted awake by a series of rumbling sounds.
Opening my eyes, I found Xiao Jin staring at me with wide eyes, its stomach protesting loudly.
"Oh right, you haven't eaten yet!"
I slapped my forehead and hurriedly pulled out a Giant Apple from my Space Ring that I had collected earlier.
"Here, Xiao Jin, have something to eat."
I broke off a large piece of the apple and offered it to Xiao Jin.
Xiao Jin took a big bite and started munching on it with great enthusiasm.
Watching it devour the apple, I couldn't help but smile.
"Slow down, don't choke."
I gently stroked its back, a warm feeling surging in my heart.
At that moment, a sudden idea struck me.
"Xiao Jin, can't you smell the rare plants from afar?"
I asked excitedly.
"Can you detect the scent of the Iron-Eating Beast's milk or the aroma of Tianzhu Peak Ore?"
Xiao Jin stopped eating and lifted its head, seemingly trying to recall something.
Then, it closed its eyes and took a deep breath, its little nose twitching continuously.
After a while, it opened its eyes and pointed towards the opposite shore of the lake.
"Are you saying there's something we need over there?"
I asked eagerly.
Xiao Jin nodded.
"That's great!"
I jumped up excitedly,
"Xiao Jin, you are truly my lucky star!"
"But how are we going to get across?"
I glanced at the orc still lingering by the shore, feeling troubled.
"Ugh..."
Suddenly, Xiao Jin opened its mouth and spat out a Golden Orb.
The orb spun gracefully in the air, emitting a soft glow.
"What is this..."
I watched the orb curiously, unsure of its purpose.
Before I knew it, the orb grew larger and larger until it transformed into a golden sphere of light, enveloping both me and Xiao Jin within.
"Is this going to take us across?"
I asked in astonishment.
Xiao Jin nodded and gently nudged me with its head, signaling me to hold on tight.
I quickly hugged Xiao Jin tightly, and then I felt my body lighten as we slowly ascended into the sky.
"Wow, this is amazing!" I exclaimed.
"Xiao Jin, you have this ability too!"
Xiao Jin proudly lifted its head and let out a clear, crisp call.
We rode on a golden sphere of light, gradually flying towards the opposite shore of the lake.
The beastman seemed to notice our movement; it roared in anger but could only watch helplessly as we flew away.
"Goodbye, big guy!" I waved at the beastman, feeling a rush of exhilaration.
With Xiao Jin's help, we finally shook off the beastman's pursuit and continued moving towards our goal.
"Xiao Jin, you are incredible!" I couldn't help but praise.
"Once we complete our mission, I will definitely reward you!"
Xiao Jin seemed to understand my words, happily nuzzling against me.
Before long, we flew across to the other side of the lake.
The golden orb of light slowly descended to the ground and then vanished.
"This should be near the lair of the Iron-Eating Beast, right?"
I looked around and found myself in a dense bamboo forest.
"Xiao Jin, can you smell the scent of the Iron-Eating Beast's milk?"
I asked.
Xiao Jin closed its eyes, sniffed carefully, and then pointed deeper into the bamboo grove.
"Let’s go take a look."
I held Xiao Jin close and cautiously made my way into the depths of the bamboo forest.
The further we went, the darker it became, and the quieter it grew around us.
Suddenly, I heard a strange sound, like a baby's cry.
"Xiao Jin, did you hear that?"
I asked warily.
Xiao Jin nodded, its body trembling slightly, seemingly frightened.
"Don't be afraid, I'm here," I said gently, patting its head to comfort it.
We continued forward, the sounds growing clearer.
Finally, we arrived at the entrance of a hidden cave.
"The sound is coming from inside," I pointed to the cave and said to Xiao Jin.
"Let's go in and take a look."
I took a deep breath, holding Xiao Jin close as we stepped into the cave.
It was very dark inside, and I couldn't see my hand in front of my face.
I took out a Glow Stick from my Space Ring to illuminate the surroundings.
"This is..."
With the glow of the Glow Stick illuminating the cave, I saw a massive nest deep within, where several black-and-white creatures lay.
"Could these be the young of the Iron-Eating Beast?"
A spark of realization ignited within me; this was exactly what we had been searching for.
"Ugh..."
Suddenly, Xiao Jin emitted a low whimper, and its body began to tremble.
"What’s wrong, Xiao Jin?"
I asked in confusion.
Xiao Jin pointed deeper into the cave, its eyes filled with fear.
"Is there something over there?"
I followed Xiao Jin's gaze but saw nothing unusual.
Just then, I felt a tremor shake the ground beneath me, as if some colossal creature was approaching.
"This is bad; the adult Iron-Eating Beast is back!"
A jolt of panic surged through me as I quickly scooped up Xiao Jin and hid behind a rock.
Sure enough, not long after, a massive Iron-Eating Beast entered the cave.
Upon seeing a stranger next to its cub, it let out a furious roar.
"Roar!"
The roar of the Iron-Eating Beast was deafening, shaking the entire cave.
"Oh no, we've been discovered!"
I thought to myself, realizing we were in serious trouble.
The strength of an adult Iron-Eating Beast was no joke; we were no match for it at all.
"Xiao Jin, run!"
I grabbed Xiao Jin and turned to flee.
The Iron-Eating Beast pursued us relentlessly, its speed far surpassing ours, and it was closing in fast.
"What do we do? What do we do?"
I was sweating profusely, unable to think of any solution.
Just at that critical moment, I suddenly spotted a patch of glowing plants ahead.
"That's... Glowing Mint!"
A surge of joy filled my heart; this was a crucial ingredient for crafting the Invisibility Potion!
"Xiao Jin, can you help me gather some Glowing Mint?" I asked eagerly.
Xiao Jin nodded and quickly jumped out of my arms.
It dashed over to the patch of Glowing Mint, swiftly using its claws to collect the leaves.
"Hurry, Xiao Jin, hurry!" I urged anxiously.
The Iron-Eating Beast was drawing closer, and I could even feel the heat of its breath.
Just then, Xiao Jin finally gathered enough Glowing Mint and raced back to my side, handing me the leaves.
"Great job, Xiao Jin!"
I took the leaves and quickly stuffed them into my mouth, chewing them up.
"What are you doing?"
I was filled with confusion, but I went along with it anyway.
"Ugh..."
Xiao Jin suddenly pointed at my body, his eyes wide with surprise.
"What’s wrong?"
I looked down and was instantly stunned.
My body was starting to become transparent!
"This is... invisibility?"
I stared in disbelief at my hands, which had completely vanished into thin air.
"This is amazing!"
I exclaimed excitedly,
"Xiao Jin, we did it!"
Xiao Jin also cheered happily, jumping onto my shoulder and nuzzling my cheek with his head.
"Roar!"
The roar of the Iron-Eating Beast echoed once more; it had reached the spot where we had just been.
However, it could no longer see us.
“Ha ha, big guy, you can’t find us now!” I laughed triumphantly.
The Iron-Eating Beast circled around a few times, seemingly confused.
Then, it let out several roars deeper into the cave, as if calling for its young.
“We should hurry!”
Seizing the moment, I quickly picked up Xiao Jin and stealthily left the cave.
We ran at full speed until we were sure the Iron-Eating Beast wasn’t chasing us anymore before stopping to catch our breath.
“Phew… finally safe.”
I let out a long sigh and plopped down onto the ground.
“Xiao Jin, you were amazing!”
I couldn’t help but praise him.
"If it weren't for you, we would have really been done for this time."
Xiao Jin proudly lifted its head and let out a clear call.
"However, we haven't completed our task yet."
I suddenly remembered that we still needed to collect milk from the Iron-Eating Beast cubs.
"Xiao Jin, can you still smell the Iron-Eating Beast cubs?" I asked.
Xiao Jin nodded.
"Then let's head back one more time."
I gritted my teeth and said.
"But this time, we need to be a bit more careful."
I took out the remnants of the Invisibility Cloak from my Space Ring.
"Although it's damaged, it should still serve some purpose."
I draped the Invisibility Cloak over myself, then held Xiao Jin close as we made our way back to the cave.
We quietly infiltrated the cave, utilizing our ability to remain unseen.
The Iron-Eating Beast had already left, leaving only a few cubs sleeping in the nest.
"Xiao Jin, can you help me collect some milk from the Iron-Eating Beast cubs?" I asked softly.
Xiao Jin nodded and carefully approached the cubs.
It gently tapped one of the cub's belly with its paw, and the cub seemed to sense something, opening its mouth wide in a yawn.
At that moment, a drop of milky liquid flowed from the corner of the cub's mouth.
"Now's our chance!"
I felt a surge of excitement and quickly took out a small vial from my Space Ring to catch the drop of milky liquid.
"Great! We did it!"
I whispered excitedly.
Xiao Jin also let out a joyful sound.
We repeated the process and collected several more drops of milk from the Iron-Eating Beast cubs.
"Alright, the mission is complete!"
I stored the small vial in the Space Ring.
"Let's get out of here quickly."
Holding Xiao Jin, I hurriedly left the cave.
We ran at full speed until we were far away from the Iron-Eating Beast's lair, then we stopped to catch our breath.
"Odyssey, Odyssey, are you there?"
I tried to call out to Odyssey.
"Zzz... Zzz... I'm here..."
Odyssey's voice came through intermittently.
"You... you completed the mission?"
"Yes, Odyssey," I said excitedly, "We collected milk from the Iron-Eating Beast's cubs and even pulled some fur from the Tiger Beastman!"
"Zhi... that's great..."
Odyssey's voice sounded very weak.
"Where... where are you now?"
"We're on our way to Tianzhu Peak."
I replied.
"Zhi... good... I... I need some time... to recover..."
Odyssey's voice grew fainter until it completely disappeared.
"Odyssey? Odyssey?"
I called out anxiously, but received no response.
"It seems Odyssey has disconnected again."
I sighed.
"But that's okay; we've completed two tasks, and only one remains."
"Xiao Jin, let's go."
I picked up Xiao Jin.
"Towards Tianzhu Peak, let's go!"
"We're not far from Tianzhu Peak," I said to Xiao Jin, pointing at the towering mountain in the distance. "Once we get there, we can complete our final task and return to the real world!"
Xiao Jin seemed to sense my excitement as it nodded vigorously. Then, suddenly, it opened its mouth and let out a burp towards the distance.
"Burp~~~"
The sound was crisp and loud, echoing through the empty valley.
"Are you... stuffed?" I said, unable to help but laugh at Xiao Jin.
Xiao Jin lowered its head in embarrassment, covering its mouth with a paw.
"It seems that the power of the Giant Apple is quite something..." I shook my head.
"However, that burp of yours, it won't bring any trouble, will it?"
Before the words had left my mouth, a thunderous roar suddenly echoed from afar, as if some colossal creature was approaching us.
"No way... is it really that effective?"
I widened my eyes, a sense of foreboding rising within me.
"Xiao Jin, run!"
I scooped up Xiao Jin and took off at full speed.
Behind us, the rumbling sound grew louder, and the ground began to tremble violently.
What on earth was chasing us? Could it be... the Iron-Eating Beast had returned?!
I couldn't help but glance back, and through the swirling dust, I saw a massive figure drawing closer.
Wait a minute, that figure... it didn't seem like the Iron-Eating Beast?
What could it possibly be?
