Chapter Three
What do you really want, He Yun?
This question echoed endlessly in my muddled mind, yet I could never find an answer.
All I knew was that my stomach felt as if it were being gripped tightly by an invisible hand, causing pain so intense that I could barely breathe.
In the darkness, I seemed to return to that cold hospital room, listening to the doctor announce that my life was nearing its end.
No, I cannot give up like this!
I still have too many things left undone. I haven't brought He Yun back; I haven't found the meaning of life!
I forced myself to open my eyes, striving to break free from this endless darkness.
I struggled to breathe, each breath feeling like a knife slicing through my lungs.
I heard He Yun's cries, so real, so sorrowful.
I felt warm droplets falling on my face. Were those He Yun's tears?
Was she crying for me?
I wanted to raise my hand to wipe away her tears but found that I couldn't move at all.
I opened my mouth, wanting to say something, but no sound came out.
He Yun, don’t cry; I don’t blame you.
Really, I don’t blame you.
How I longed to tell her that my love for her had never changed.
But I didn’t even have the strength to speak.
All I could do was silently pray in my heart, hoping she could feel my sentiments.
In a daze, I felt myself being lifted and placed onto something soft.
Was it an ambulance?
He Yun, are you really going to save me?
But don’t you hate me?
"Did you not want to watch me suffer, to see me die?"
"Why, why do you still want to save me?"
A series of questions swirled in my mind, yet there were no answers.
I felt waves of dizziness wash over me, and the scenery before my eyes began to blur.
I struggled to stay awake, but I could not resist the overwhelming tide of drowsiness.
"He Yun, don't leave me."
This was the last thought I had before slipping into unconsciousness.
When I awoke again, I found myself lying on a hospital bed.
The familiar scent of disinfectant filled the air, and the walls and ceiling were still stark white.
Have I returned?
I turned my stiff neck and looked around.
This appeared to be a single patient room; it was quiet except for the beeping of the machines.
On the bedside table lay a bouquet of lilies, emitting a faint fragrance.
Did He Yun bring these?
A warm feeling surged in my heart, and a smile unconsciously crept onto my lips.
"You’re awake?"
A familiar voice rang in my ears. I turned my head and saw He Yun.
She sat in a chair beside the bed, her eyes red and swollen, her face haggard—clearly she had been crying.
"He Yun, how come you…"
I wanted to ask her why she was here, but she interrupted me.
"Don't speak."
He Yun's voice was hoarse, tinged with a hint of sobbing.
"The doctor said you have alcohol poisoning, which has caused acute gastric bleeding. You need to rest properly."
Alcohol poisoning?
Acute gastric bleeding?
It was only then that I recalled the events before I lost consciousness. I seemed to have drunk a lot, and then my stomach hurt terribly, and then...
"Why... why am I here?"
I struggled to ask.
"How can you even ask that!"
He Yun's tears streamed down her face once again.
"Do you have any idea how close you were to dying?"
She gripped my hand tightly, her strength astonishing.
"I'm sorry..."
I said weakly, filled with guilt.
"What good is 'I'm sorry'!"
He Yun's voice rose an octave.
"If you had really died, what would I do? What would Mo Han do?"
"I..."
I wanted to explain but didn't know what to say.
"Lu Chen, why do you treat yourself this way?"
He Yun's tears fell like pearls from a broken string, continuously dripping onto the back of my hand.
"You clearly know you're allergic to alcohol; why did you drink so much?"
"I..."
I was left speechless.
I knew I was wrong, terribly wrong.
But at that moment, I truly couldn't control myself.
Seeing He Yun and Xu Feng together felt like a knife slicing through my heart.
All I wanted was to numb myself with alcohol, to forget everything.
I never expected it would almost lead to my own demise.
"Lu Chen, promise me you won't do this again, okay?"
He Yun's voice was filled with pleading.
"I... I promise you."
I nodded with great difficulty.
"Just rest well. I'll go get you something to eat."
He Yun released my hand, stood up, and turned to leave.
"He Yun!"
I called out to her.
"What is it?"
She turned back, looking at me with confusion.
"Thank you."
I said sincerely.
"Thank me for what?"
A hint of bewilderment crossed He Yun's face.
"Thank you for saving me."
I looked into her eyes and spoke earnestly.
"I..."
He Yun's cheeks flushed slightly, and her gaze flickered away.
"I just... I just don't want you to die in front of me."
"I know."
I smiled softly.
"Regardless, I still want to thank you."
He Yun didn't say anything more and turned to leave the hospital room.
Watching her retreating figure, my heart was a mix of emotions.
He Yun, what are you really thinking?
Do you still hate me?
Or do you still have feelings for me deep down?
I didn't know the answers, but I wouldn't give up.
I would win your heart back.
In the following days, He Yun came to the hospital to see me every day.
She brought various supplements and even made soup for me with her own hands.
Although she didn't say much and her attitude was somewhat cold, I could feel her concern for me.
This reignited hope in my previously dormant heart.
I knew that He Yun still cared about me.
She was just still angry with me and preoccupied with what happened with Mo Han.
As long as I worked hard and persisted, I could surely change her mind.
That day, He Yun came to the hospital as usual and placed the thermos on the bedside table.
"How are you feeling today?"
He Yun asked while opening the thermos.
"Much better."
I replied with a smile.
"The doctor said I can be discharged tomorrow."
"Mm."
He Yun nodded, ladling soup into a bowl and handing it to me.
"Be careful, it's hot."
I took the bowl and had a sip.
"It tastes really good."
I praised sincerely.
"I'm glad you like it."
A faint smile appeared on He Yun's lips.
"He Yun, once I'm out of the hospital, shall we go on a trip together?"
I asked tentatively.
"Where to?"
He Yun's eyes flickered for a moment.
"Anywhere is fine, as long as I'm with you."
I said with deep affection.
"Lu Chen, we..."
He Yun hesitated, struggling to find the right words.
"We can't go back, can we?"
"Why can't we go back?"
I asked eagerly.
"As long as you're willing, we can definitely go back to the past."
"But..."
He Yun's gaze dimmed.
"But what about Mo Han? Have you forgotten him?"
"I haven't forgotten Mo Han."
I spoke earnestly.
"But I can't keep living in the past; I have to look forward."
"He Yun, give me a chance, and give yourself a chance, okay?"
I held her hand, pleading.
He Yun didn't respond; she just looked at me silently.
Her eyes were filled with complex emotions—struggle, hesitation, and also anticipation.
I knew she was wavering.
"Ring, ring, ring..."
At that moment, He Yun's phone rang.
She glanced at the caller ID, and her expression changed slightly.
"I need to take this call."
After saying that, He Yun walked out of the hospital room with her phone in hand.
I watched her retreating figure, a wave of unease rising in my heart.
Who was calling?
Why did He Yun look so tense?
A few minutes later, He Yun returned.
Her face was somewhat pale, and her eyes were filled with a hint of panic.
"What's wrong?"
I asked with concern.
"Lu Chen, I... I have something to take care of, I need to leave," He Yun's voice trembled slightly.
"Is something the matter?"
I pressed on.
"It's nothing, it's just... there's an issue at the gallery that I need to handle," He Yun's eyes flickered, avoiding my gaze.
"I'll go with you."
I struggled to get out of bed.
"No need!"
He Yun hurriedly stopped me.
"You should rest well; I'll be back soon."
With that, she turned and left, her steps hurried and somewhat unsteady.
"He Yun!"
I called out to her.
She paused but didn't turn around.
"Are you hiding something from me?"
I asked.
He Yun was silent for a few seconds before replying, "No, you're overthinking it."
Without looking back, she left the hospital room.
Watching her disappearing figure, my heart sank to the bottom.
He Yun, what on earth are you hiding from me?
Are you really going to marry Xu Feng?
No, it can't be!
I refuse to believe that you could be so cruel!
There must be some hidden truth behind this!
I have to find out!
Struggling to get out of bed despite my weakness, I put on my clothes and quietly slipped out of the hospital.
I hailed a taxi and told the driver to take me to He Yun's gallery.
Throughout the ride, my heart was in turmoil, filled with both anticipation and fear.
I hoped that He Yun would give me an explanation, yet I dreaded hearing what I didn't want to know.
The car soon arrived at the gallery entrance.
I paid the fare, got out, and walked towards the gallery.
Inside, people were bustling about, creating a lively atmosphere.
I searched through the crowd for He Yun's figure but couldn't find her anywhere.
I approached a staff member and asked, "Where is your boss?"
"Boss? She isn't here today," the staff member replied, looking at me curiously.
"Not here?"
A jolt of panic surged through me.
"Didn't she say she had something to handle at the gallery?"
"Nothing's wrong; everything is normal today," the staff member shook his head.
"Then where did she go?" I pressed further.
"I don't know about that," he replied.
I thanked him and turned to leave the gallery.
He Yun, where on earth have you gone?
Why did you lie to me?
Are you really hiding something from me?
I stood at the entrance of the gallery, looking around in confusion.
Suddenly, my gaze landed on a familiar figure.
It was Xu Feng!
What is he doing here?
I watched as he walked into a café.
After a moment's hesitation, I decided to follow him inside.
I found a corner seat and sat down, observing Xu Feng discreetly.
Xu Feng was sitting by the window, talking to a woman.
The woman had her back to me, so I couldn't see her face.
However, something about her silhouette and attire felt vaguely familiar.
Who could it be?
I strained to catch a glimpse of her face but couldn't make it out clearly.
Then I saw Xu Feng pull a box from his pocket and hand it to the woman.
The woman took the box, opened it for a moment, then closed it again.
What were they talking about?
What was inside that box?
My curiosity was thoroughly piqued.
Just then, the woman suddenly turned around.
I finally saw her face.
It was He Yun!
My mind went blank with a buzzing sensation.
He Yun, didn’t you say you had something to handle at the gallery?
Why are you meeting Xu Feng here?
What exactly are you trying to do?
Are you really going to marry him?
I watched as He Yun handed the box back to Xu Feng.
A look of disappointment appeared on Xu Feng's face.
Then, He Yun stood up and turned to leave.
"He Yun!"
I could no longer hold back and shouted as I stood up.
He Yun's body stiffened, and she slowly turned around.
When she saw me, her face showed shock.
"Lu Chen? What are you doing here?"
Xu Feng also noticed me, and his expression darkened.
"That’s a question I should be asking you."
I said coldly.
"Aren't you supposed to be dealing with something at the gallery? Why are you meeting with Xu Feng here?"
"I..."
He Yun's eyes flickered, as if she wanted to explain something.
"Lu Chen, let me explain..."
"Explain? Sure, I'd like to hear what you have to say!"
I pressed on relentlessly.
"What is your relationship with Xu Feng? What were you two just talking about? What's in that box?"
"I..."
He Yun opened her mouth but couldn't say anything.
"Lu Chen, this is between me and He Yun; it has nothing to do with you."
Xu Feng stood up, positioning himself in front of He Yun.
"Nothing to do with me?"
I let out a cold laugh.
"Xu Feng, don't forget that He Yun is my wife!"
"Not for long."
Xu Feng replied defiantly.
"He Yun has already agreed to marry me."
"What did you say?"
I felt as if I had been struck by lightning, staring at He Yun in disbelief.
"He Yun, is what he said true? Are you really going to marry him?"
He Yun lowered her head, unable to meet my gaze.
Her silence spoke volumes.
"Why?"
My voice trembled.
"He Yun, why are you treating me like this? Do you really have no feelings for me at all?"
"Lu Chen, please stop..."
He Yun's voice was laced with tears.
"I won't listen!"
I shouted loudly.
"He Yun, I just need you to say one thing: do you still love me?"
He Yun looked up at me, her face streaked with tears.
"Lu Chen, I..."
He Yun hesitated, tears streaming down her cheeks.
She gazed deeply into my eyes for a moment before turning away and running towards the door.
"He Yun!"
I shouted, trying to chase after her, but Xu Feng blocked my path.
"Lu Chen, enough!"
Xu Feng said coldly.
"He Yun has made her choice; you shouldn't pursue her any longer."
"Get out of my way!"
I shoved Xu Feng aside and ran after He Yun.
"He Yun! He Yun!"
I called out as I ran.
But He Yun seemed to have not heard me at all, running away without looking back.
I chased after him to the entrance of the café, but his figure had already vanished.
Only Xu Feng remained, standing at the café door, coldly watching me with a hint of a mocking smile on his lips.
"Lu Chen, you lost."
Xu Feng's voice was icy and cruel.
"He Yun is mine now."
He took out an exquisite box, opened it, revealing a sparkling diamond ring inside.
"This is the ring I proposed to He Yun with."
Xu Feng flaunted it proudly.
"She has already agreed to marry me."
"You must be dreaming!"
I yelled in anger and punched Xu Feng squarely in the face.
Caught off guard, Xu Feng fell to the ground from my blow.
"How dare you hit me?"
Xu Feng covered his face, looking at me in disbelief.
"I'm hitting you!"
I rushed forward, unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks on Xu Feng.
"I won't let you steal my woman! I won't let you destroy my family!"
As I struck him, I cursed, releasing all my fury onto Xu Feng.
He was utterly defenseless against my assault, curling up on the ground, holding his head and groaning in pain.
"Stop! Please stop!"
The café security rushed over, trying to pull me away.
"Don't touch me!"
I pushed the security guard away and continued to beat Xu Feng.
"Lu Chen, are you crazy?"
A familiar voice called out.
It was Chen Jie!
What was she doing here?
I stopped and turned my head, seeing Chen Jie looking at me in shock.
"Lu Chen, what are you doing?"
Chen Jie quickly walked over, trying to pull me away.
"Get away from me!"
I shoved Chen Jie aside.
"This is between me and Xu Feng. Stay out of it!"
"Lu Chen, calm down!"
Chen Jie shouted loudly.
"You could kill someone!"
"Kill someone? Fine!"
I sneered.
"Then let him die!"
With that, I kicked Xu Feng hard in the stomach.
Xu Feng let out a scream, curling up like a boiled shrimp.
"Lu Chen, stop it!"
Chen Jie rushed forward again, desperately clinging to my arm.
"Let go of me!"
I struggled fiercely, trying to break free from Chen Jie's grip.
But Chen Jie held on to me tightly, as if she had gone mad.
"Lu Chen, listen to me!"
Her voice was laced with tears.
"You can't keep doing this!"
"Let go of me!"
I shouted loudly.
"I won't let go!"
Chen Jie cried out.
"Lu Chen, wake up! You're only going to make He Yun hate you more!"
"He Yun?"
Hearing that name stunned me.
Yes, He Yun.
What I was doing would only make He Yun dislike me even more.
How could I be so impulsive?
I slowly calmed down and stopped struggling.
Seeing me relax, Chen Jie gradually loosened her grip.
"Lu Chen, are you okay?"
Chen Jie asked with concern.
I didn't respond; I simply shook my head.
"Let's go."
Chen Jie took my hand and led me out of the café.
Outside, the sunlight was blinding.
Yet, I felt a chill running through me, from my head to my toes.
"Lu Chen, what’s wrong with you?"
Chen Jie looked at me with concern.
"He Yun is getting married to Xu Feng."
I spoke in a daze.
"What?"
Chen Jie was visibly shocked.
"That’s impossible! How could He Yun marry Xu Feng?"
"She told me herself."
I forced a bitter smile.
"She said she wants to marry Xu Feng, that she wants to take revenge on me, that she wants me to experience the pain of losing a loved one."
"Lu Chen, don’t say that."
Chen Jie tried to comfort me.
"He Yun must have her reasons."
"Reasons?"
I scoffed.
"What reasons does she have? Doesn’t she just hate me? She hates me for not saving Mo Han back then, for betraying her."
"Lu Chen, it’s not as simple as you think."
Chen Jie attempted to explain.
"Then how is it?"
I looked at Chen Jie.
"What was that all about?"
"I..."
Chen Jie hesitated, struggling to find the words.
"Lu Chen, you need to calm down. Let's go back, okay?"
"Back?"
I stared blankly at Chen Jie.
"Where do we go back to? I have no home anymore."
"Lu Chen..."
"Don't say anything more."
I interrupted Chen Jie.
"I just need some time alone."
With that, I turned and walked away, leaving Chen Jie standing there.
I wandered aimlessly down the street, my mind a chaotic mess.
He Yun, Xu Feng, Mo Han, Chen Jie...
The faces of these people flashed before my eyes, stirring up a storm of emotions within me.
I didn't know what to do or where to go.
All I knew was that my world had completely shattered.
I had lost He Yun, lost everything.
Like a walking corpse, I drifted through the streets, unaware of how long I had been walking or where I was headed.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my stomach, as if a knife were twisting inside me.
I doubled over in agony, clutching my belly and gasping for breath.
Is it my stomach acting up again?
I forced a bitter smile.
Just when it rains, it pours.
At that moment, a car stopped in front of me.
The window rolled down, revealing Chen Jie’s face.
“Lu Chen, get in the car!”
Chen Jie’s voice was filled with urgency.
I didn’t move.
“Lu Chen, listen to me. I’ll take you to the hospital!”
Chen Jie opened the car door and stepped out, trying to help me inside.
“No need.”
I shook my head.
“I’m fine.”
“You look like this and still say you’re fine?”
Chen Jie’s voice rose an octave.
“Lu Chen, what will it take for you to listen?”
“I…”
I opened my mouth but couldn’t say anything.
“Get in the car!”
Without waiting for my response, Chen Jie helped me into the vehicle.
The car started and headed toward the hospital.
Throughout the ride, neither of us spoke.
The atmosphere in the carriage was stifling, making it hard to breathe.
When we arrived at the hospital, Chen Jie accompanied me to register, see the doctor, and pick up medication.
She moved around busily, like a spinning top, constantly in motion.
Watching her busy figure, an inexplicable emotion surged within me.
Chen Jie, why are you being so nice to me?
Do you really like me?
But the person I like is He Yun.
I cannot accept your feelings.
“Lu Chen, you should rest here for a bit. I’ll go get you something to eat,” Chen Jie’s voice interrupted my thoughts.
“No need,” I shook my head.
“I’m not hungry.”
“That’s not acceptable,” Chen Jie replied.
“You have a stomach issue; you need to eat something.”
“I really am not hungry,” I insisted.
“You…”
Chen Jie looked at me, hesitating to say more.
“Alright then.”
She sighed.
"Then you should rest well. I'll go get you a glass of water."
After saying that, she turned and left the hospital room.
Watching Chen Jie walk away, my heart was filled with mixed emotions.
Chen Jie, you are a good girl, but I cannot accept your feelings.
I'm sorry.
I closed my eyes, wanting to rest for a while.
However, my mind was like a movie reel, constantly flashing scenes from the past.
The moments I spent with He Yun—meeting her, falling in love, getting married...
Those sweet memories felt like sharp knives, piercing my heart.
He Yun, can we really never go back?
I refuse to accept it!
I refuse to lose you like this!
I must find you again!
I will!
Suddenly, something struck me, and I opened my eyes wide.
He Yun has been acting strangely today!
She must be hiding something from me!
I need to figure this out!
Yes, if I find He Yun, everything will become clear!
Why did He Yun lie to me?
Why is she with Xu Feng?
What is that box all about?
Everything felt like a giant mystery, shrouded in my heart.
I had to find the answer!
I could no longer sit idly by!
I needed to take action!
I climbed out of bed, disregarding my frail body, pulled out the IV needle from my arm, and stealthily slipped out of the hospital.
I was going to find He Yun!
I needed to ask her what was really going on!
I hailed a taxi and instructed the driver to take me to He Yun's house.
All the way there, my heart was in turmoil, filled with both anticipation and fear.
I hoped that He Yun could provide me with an explanation, yet I dreaded hearing answers I didn't want to hear.
The car soon arrived at the foot of He Yun's building.
I paid the fare, got out, and looked up at He Yun's window.
The lights were on.
He Yun was home!
Taking a deep breath, I walked toward the stairs.
Standing at He Yun's door, I hesitated about whether to knock.
My hand hovered in the air but did not come down.
I was scared—scared of hearing He Yun tell me that she was going to marry Xu Feng.
But if I didn't knock, I would never know the truth.
I couldn't run away any longer!
I had to face reality!
Clenching my teeth, I knocked firmly on the door.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
The sound echoed through the silent hallway, piercing the stillness.
My heart raced in sync with the knocking.
"Who is it?"
A voice from inside called out, belonging to He Yun.
"It's me."
I replied.
"Lu Chen?"
He Yun's voice was filled with surprise.
"What are you doing here?"
"I came to see you."
I said.
"I have something to ask you."
There was a pause of a few seconds before I heard a click, and the door swung open.
He Yun stood at the threshold, her face pale and her eyes reflecting a complex mix of emotions as she looked at me.
"Come in," she said.
I stepped into the room and glanced around.
This was once our home.
Everything here felt so familiar, so warm.
But now, it was filled with coldness and distance.
"What do you want to ask?"
He Yun's voice broke the silence.
"Why did you lie to me?"
I looked into He Yun's eyes and asked.
"Why are you with Xu Feng? What is that box all about?"
He Yun's gaze flickered for a moment before she lowered her head, avoiding my eyes.
"Lu Chen, please don't ask anymore," she said.
"I can't not ask!"
I replied, my voice filled with agitation.
"He Yun, what are you hiding from me?"
"I..."
He Yun hesitated, words caught in her throat.
"He Yun, tell me, do you still love me?"
I looked at He Yun, my voice trembling.
"Are you really going to marry Xu Feng?"
He Yun lifted her head to look at me, tears streaming down her face.
"Lu Chen, I... I..."
She choked on her words, unable to continue.
"He Yun, just say something!"
I shouted.
"Tell me you don't love me anymore! That you're going to marry Xu Feng!"
He Yun's body shook violently, tears falling like pearls from a broken string.
She looked at me, her eyes filled with pain and despair.
"Lu Chen, please don't force me..."
She cried out.
"I beg you, stop pushing me..."
"He Yun..."
Seeing He Yun in such agony made my heart ache.
I stepped forward, wanting to hold her and comfort her.
But He Yun pushed me away with all her strength.
"Don't touch me!"
She shouted.
"Lu Chen, it's over between us! Why do you keep clinging to me?"
"Over?"
I looked at He Yun in disbelief.
"He Yun, what are you saying? How can it be over?"
"We're not even divorced yet! You are still my wife!"
"Wife?"
He Yun let out a cold laugh.
"Lu Chen, now you remember I'm your wife? When you betrayed me, did you ever think of that?"
"I..."
I opened my mouth but couldn't find the words.
"He Yun, I know I was wrong."
I said softly.
"I admit that I betrayed you. I'm sorry, I'm truly sorry for Mo Han. But I have realized my mistakes, and I have tried my best to make amends. Why can't you forgive me?"
"Forgive you?"
He Yun's voice suddenly rose.
"Lu Chen, tell me, why should I forgive you? You caused Mo Han's death! You made me lose my best friend! For the past six years, I've lived in pain and guilt every single day! And now you think a light 'I'm sorry' is enough for me to forgive you? Dream on!"
"He Yun..."
I closed my eyes in anguish.
"I know I have sinned deeply, and I don't expect your forgiveness. I only hope that you can give me a chance to make amends, to atone for my sins with the rest of my life."
"Make amends? Atone?"
He Yun scoffed.
"Lu Chen, what can you use to make amends? How will you atone? Can you bring Mo Han back to life? Can you turn back time to six years ago?"
"I..."
I was left speechless.
"Lu Chen, you can't do anything!"
He Yun's voice was cold and cruel.
"The only thing you can do is stay far away from me and never show up in front of me again!"
"He Yun, do you really have to be this heartless?"
I looked at He Yun, my voice trembling.
"Yes, I will be this heartless!"
He Yun said without hesitation.
"Lu Chen, I've made up my mind. I'm going to marry Xu Feng. Only he can give me happiness. Only he can help me forget the past."
"Xu Feng?"
I let out a cold laugh.
"He Yun, wake up! Xu Feng doesn't love you at all! He's just using you!"
"Using me?"
A hint of confusion appeared on He Yun's face.
"Why would he want to use me?"
"Because he wants to take over Lu Group!"
I said loudly.
"He wants to use you against me. He wants to drive me out of Lu Group and swallow it whole!"
"Impossible!"
He Yun shook her head.
"Xu Feng isn't that kind of person!"
"He Yun, why won't you believe me?" I said in anguish.
"Don't you know what kind of person Xu Feng is? He will stop at nothing to achieve his goals! Being with him will only lead to your downfall!"
"Enough!"
He Yun shouted.
"Lu Chen, stop talking! I believe Xu Feng; I believe he will treat me well!"
"He Yun..."
"Just go."
He Yun interrupted me.
"Lu Chen, it's over between us. From now on, you go your way, and I'll go mine. We are no longer connected."
With that, He Yun turned and walked toward the bedroom.
"He Yun!"
I shouted, trying to catch up.
But He Yun slammed the bedroom door shut with a loud bang.
I stood at the door, listening to the sobs coming from inside, my heart aching like it was being sliced apart.
He Yun, why can't you just believe me?
Xu Feng is truly a cunning and treacherous person!
You won't find happiness with him!
I can't just stand by and watch you jump into the fire!
I have to stop you!
I pounded on the bedroom door with all my might.
"He Yun, open the door! Please listen to me!"
"He Yun, you can't marry Xu Feng! You'll regret it!"
"He Yun, please open the door!"
But no matter how hard I knocked or how loudly I called, He Yun didn't respond.
Inside, only her suppressed cries echoed, each one like a dagger piercing my heart.
I stood there dejectedly at the door, unsure of what to do.
Am I really going to give up like this?
No!
I can't give up!
I must save He Yun!
I absolutely cannot let her marry Xu Feng!
But what can I do?
He Yun doesn't believe me at all; she won't even listen to my explanation.
What should I do to make her believe me, to make her change her mind?
I stood at the door, thinking for a long, long time, but I couldn't come up with a single solution.
The sky gradually brightened, and a new day began.
Yet my heart remained immersed in darkness, unable to find a glimmer of light.
He Yun, what should I do?
What can I do to win you back?
To bring you back to my side?
I stood at He Yun's doorstep like a statue, completely motionless.
My mind was blank, only He Yun's tear-streaked face lingered in front of me, refusing to fade away.
He Yun, can you really be so heartless?
Are you truly going to marry Xu Feng?
Are you really going to give up our past, give up our love?
No, I refuse to believe it!
I don't believe you could be so cruel!
There must be some hidden truth behind this!
I have to find out!
Suddenly, my phone rang.
I took it out and saw that it was Chen Jie calling.
I hesitated for a moment but decided to answer the call.
"Lu Chen, where are you?"
Chen Jie's anxious voice came through the line.
"I'm at... He Yun's place."
I said.
"Where did you run off to?"
Chen Jie’s voice was filled with reproach.
"Don't you know you need to rest right now?"
"Chen Jie, I..."
I opened my mouth but didn't know what to say.
"Lu Chen, listen to me."
Chen Jie’s tone softened.
"I know you're feeling very sad right now, but you can't treat yourself like this."
"I'm not treating myself poorly."
I replied.
"I just want to understand why He Yun is doing this to me."
"Lu Chen, you..."
Chen Jie hesitated.
"Forget it, just wait there for me. I'll be right over."
With that, she hung up the phone.
I stood in place, waiting for Chen Jie to arrive.
About half an hour later, Chen Jie drove up to the building where He Yun lived.
She spotted me and quickly walked over.
"Lu Chen, are you okay?"
She asked with concern.
I shook my head.
"I'm fine."
"Come on, I'll take you home," Chen Jie said.
"I'm not going back," I insisted.
"I want to wait here for He Yun."
"Lu Chen, don't be like this!" Chen Jie urged.
"He Yun has already decided to marry Xu Feng. There's no point in waiting any longer."
"I don't believe it!" I shouted.
"He Yun must have her reasons! She can't really want to marry Xu Feng!"
"Lu Chen, wake up!" Chen Jie's voice was filled with helplessness.
"He Yun doesn't love you anymore. Why can't you understand that?"
"No, she loves me!" I said firmly.
"She must be going through something to act this way!"
"Lu Chen..."
"Chen Jie, trust me."
I looked at Chen Jie earnestly.
"I will find He Yun and get to the bottom of this."
Chen Jie looked at me and sighed.
"Alright, I'll wait with you," she said.
"Thank you, Chen Jie," I replied gratefully.
"We're friends, after all," Chen Jie smiled.
"It’s the least I can do."
Chen Jie and I waited for a long time downstairs at He Yun's place, from day to night and then from night back to day.
However, He Yun never showed up.
I had no idea where she had gone or when she would return.
All I knew was that I had to keep waiting.
I had to wait for her to clarify everything.
The process of waiting was long and torturous.
My stomach issues flared up again, causing me excruciating pain.
Chen Jie stayed by my side, taking care of me and comforting me.
She bought me medicine, brought me food, and even told jokes to cheer me up.
Yet, my heart remained preoccupied with thoughts of He Yun, preventing me from truly feeling happy.
Chen Jie, thank you.
But I cannot accept your feelings.
My heart only has room for He Yun; it cannot accommodate anyone else.
I'm sorry.
Another day passed, and He Yun still hadn't appeared.
I began to feel anxious.
He Yun, where are you?
Why haven't you come back yet?
Do you know how worried I am about you?
I can't wait like this any longer!
I have to go find He Yun!
I must find her and get to the bottom of everything!
"Chen Jie, I'm going to look for He Yun," I said to Chen Jie.
"Do you know where she might be?"
"I don't know."
Chen Jie shook her head.
"But we can ask Xu Feng."
"Xu Feng?"
I frowned.
"How would he know where He Yun is?"
"Maybe He Yun is with him right now," Chen Jie replied.
"Lu Chen, I know you don't want to believe it, but that's the truth."
"I don't believe it!" I exclaimed loudly.
"He Yun cannot be with him!"
"Lu Chen, calm down," Chen Jie advised.
"We should find Xu Feng first and ask about the situation," he continued.
I fell silent.
I knew Chen Jie was right.
Right now, the only way to find He Yun was to locate Xu Feng.
"Alright," I said. "Let's go find Xu Feng."
Chen Jie and I arrived at Xu Feng's company.
We explained our purpose to the receptionist, who asked us to wait in the meeting room.
After a while, Xu Feng arrived.
Upon seeing us, a look of surprise crossed his face.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"Xu Feng, where is He Yun?" I asked directly.
"I don't know," he replied.
