Two days later, Chen Moxuan returned to the mountains. He did not rush to see his master, Shao Lanyin, but instead headed straight for the forbidden area that housed the Tian Shu Lu.
Upon entering the forbidden area, a faint aura of immortality enveloped him, and the surroundings were shrouded in mist, as if he had stepped into another realm. The Tian Shu Lu floated quietly in the center of the forbidden ground, its surface shimmering with mottled light, resembling a river of stars flowing slowly.
Chen Moxuan approached slowly. Beside the Tian Shu Lu, an ancient brush swayed gently, as if writing by itself. With each stroke it made, intricate spells emerged on the Tian Shu Lu, recording the myriad changes in the world.
However, as Chen Moxuan looked closely, he noticed something unusual. The brush occasionally wrote a few characters that were completely unrelated to the content at hand, abruptly inserting them and disrupting the harmony and order of the text.
This scene left Chen Moxuan feeling perplexed; he furrowed his brows, trying to comprehend this sudden anomaly. Just then, a familiar figure quietly appeared behind him—his master, Shao Lanyin.
"What are you up to again? Who told you to come back?" Shao Lanyin's arrival startled Chen Moxuan slightly. He quickly turned around and recounted his observations to her in detail.
"Master, look at this Tian Shu Lu; it seems a bit off," Chen Moxuan said anxiously, pointing at the strange content on the Tian Shu Lu.
Hearing this, Shao Lanyin slowly approached the Tian Shu Lu and gazed at the peculiar characters with a thoughtful expression in her eyes. After a moment, she sighed softly and said, "The Tian Shu Lu has recorded everything about Yun Miao Sheng Zhou since ancient times. If such anomalies are appearing, it likely signifies that something significant is about to happen."
Chen Moxuan then shared everything he had experienced recently with Shao Lanyin, including his encounter with Jingyun Xian Emperor and his suspicions about the Blood Emperor, as well as the potential crisis facing Xianyuan Shengzhou. His tone was grave, and deep concern was evident in his eyes.
"Master, I believe the Blood Emperor might be secretly setting up some scheme; the calamity facing Xianyuan Shengzhou could be related to this," Chen Moxuan said urgently.
However, upon hearing about Jingyun's situation, Shao Lanyin's expression suddenly changed. She gently shook her head and replied, "Chen Moxuan, you need not concern yourself with these matters any further. I will handle the anomalies with the Tian Shu Lu."
Chen Moxuan was taken aback by her response; he had not expected such a reaction from his master. Even her way of addressing him had changed; it was rare for her to call him Chen Moxuan so affectionately.
Chen Moxuan hurriedly pressed on, "Master, why? These matters concern the safety of the entire Yun Miao Sheng Zhou. How can we just stand by and do nothing?"
Shao Lanyin merely sighed softly, her gaze becoming somewhat complex, as if she harbored some unspeakable secret. She spoke cautiously, "There are some things you do not yet understand. You are not yet in a position to intervene in these matters."
"I have other business to attend to; you shouldn't linger on the mountain!" With that, she quickly left the forbidden area, leaving Chen Moxuan standing there in a daze.
Watching his master's retreating figure, Chen Moxuan was filled with confusion. It was clear that she was making excuses to escape; there must be something she was hiding from him! It was truly rare for her to act this way.
Chen Moxuan considered himself someone who would dig until he found the truth. The more unusual things became, the more determined he was to uncover what lay beneath. The only one who could provide him with answers in this mountain might be that individual, he thought to himself.
With this in mind, he immediately made his way toward the mountainside. However, just as he departed, Shao Lanyin slowly appeared at the entrance of the forbidden area.
"It seems a great battle is indeed approaching. Why do you concern yourself with so many trivial matters? Isn't it better to live your leisurely life? Sigh..."
With that, Shao Lanyin suddenly transformed into a gentle breeze and vanished.
Arriving at the mountainside, Chen Moxuan found an entrance concealed by dense trees, appearing quite ordinary, as if it were merely a natural indentation in the mountain. However, he knew that behind this entrance lay an unknown secret.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside. The cave was pitch black at first, but soon a soft glow emanated from the cave walls, illuminating the entire space.
An ethereal voice echoed within the cave, asking, "Chen Moxuan, why have you come here?"
Chen Moxuan felt a slight tremor in his heart; he was somewhat intimidated by this elder—not because of their strength but due to their rather frightening appearance. After all, everyone has their childhood nightmares.
The last time he had seen this elder was over nine thousand years ago. At that time, he had caught a glimpse of them; they had only one eye and did not appear to be injured or cursed but seemed to be born that way. Coupled with their unkempt appearance and dirtiness, they had become a childhood nightmare for Chen Moxuan.
He steadied himself and replied, "Senior, I came here to find out what my master is really hiding. There has been something unusual with the Tian Shu Lu, yet my master refuses to let me get involved. I am truly uneasy about this."
Suddenly, the One-Eyed Senior burst into a strange laughter, which grew louder and more incessant.
Chen Moxuan's patience began to wear thin; a half-smile appeared on his face, and his eyes gradually turned fierce. "Senior, you startled me over nine thousand years ago. I see you live on this mountain, so I never came to find you. But now, I have no time for jokes. If you don't explain yourself, I will gouge out your eyes, tear off your limbs, and seal you beneath the seas! That would perfectly relieve the resentment I've held since childhood."
The laughter abruptly ceased. "You dare to insult me like this! Your master treats me with utmost respect!" the One-Eyed Senior retorted angrily.
Chen Moxuan, however, maintained his half-smile and said, "I don’t care who you are; you’re of no help to me and are utterly useless. You've lived on my mountain for so long; asking for three Innate Lingbao from you isn’t too much, is it?"
"Three Innate Lingbao? Have you lost your mind or have I?" The One-Eyed Senior was furious and stepped out from the shadows, revealing a peculiar figure.
He was tall but slightly hunched, as if burdened by an invisible weight. His skin had an unusual gray-green hue covered in scattered scales, reminiscent of a demon's mark. Yet his face still bore faint traces of humanity, especially that solitary eye which sparkled with wisdom and anger.
One side of his face was obscured by disheveled hair while the other was fully exposed to the air, showcasing a bizarre half-human, half-demon state. His fingers were long and sharp like beast claws, with faint demonic energy shimmering at their tips.
Chen Moxuan suddenly kicked out with all his strength, fully prepared to be sent flying back. To his surprise, the kick landed squarely on the One-Eyed Senior's face. The other party seemed utterly incapable of resistance!
