In Heartless Valley, the Rules Spirit seemed like a new deity, establishing various regulations. To live here, one must adhere to these rules. Refusal to comply would only be possible if one possessed the power to break them. But why did the Rules Spirit create rules concerning vitality and Emotional Connection? Was it because it needed these two elements?
After sorting through these thoughts, Chen Moxuan began to attempt the conversion of vitality. Holding a Crystal Bottle in his hand, he silently chanted in his mind: Convert vitality.
Suddenly, he felt a decrease in his own vitality, while a strand of green life force appeared in the bottle. He sensed a slight weakness in his body, but his lifespan remained unchanged. It seemed my earlier guess was correct; as long as the vitality is strong enough and abundant, converting it wouldn’t reduce my lifespan.
Thus, the people here experienced a decrease in lifespan when converting vitality because their life force was too weak. Once they lacked a certain degree of vitality, their lifespan would diminish by a year!
Continuing on! Without affecting my lifespan, how much vitality can I convert? Three strands! Seven strands!
With each strand of vitality converted, Chen Moxuan felt a slight weakening within himself. By the time he converted the tenth strand, he finally sensed it. If he continued further, it would indeed shorten his lifespan. It appeared this was the limit of how much vitality he could convert at once! Compared to the relationship between vitality and lifespan, understanding this was much simpler. The conversion of Emotional Connection seemed even more peculiar; one could actually transform their emotions into Emotional Connection to use as currency.
At that moment, Chen Moxuan suddenly recalled an issue he had overlooked: Could one use another's converted vitality to extend their own lifespan? If so, could using Emotional Connection enhance one's feelings? But would the enhanced feelings belong to oneself or those of the person who converted their Emotional Connection?
After a moment of contemplation, Chen Moxuan felt his spirit transported to a wondrous place. It seemed to be an ethereal space filled with various Light Spheres, each displaying different colors.
He reached out and grasped a red Light Sphere, which contained the intense emotions he had felt during his youth, a time filled with fantasies of love. Could it be? Such distant emotional fluctuations still lingered within him.
Next, he grabbed a nearby white Light Sphere. Inside was the bond he shared with Shao Lanyin during their time as master and disciple. Was it possible that each Light Sphere represented a specific moment in time, reflecting the emotions he had experienced? But how did the Rules Spirit of Heartless Valley manage to manifest such long-cherished feelings?
Chen Moxuan felt puzzled. He decided to transform A Thread of Emotion and see what would happen. He chose to convert the youthful red emotion first. Instantly, a colorful Emotional Connection emerged from another Crystal Bottle. However, when he returned to that enchanting place filled with emotions, the red Light Sphere had vanished.
Was this what it meant to transform an Emotional Connection? One thread equated to the disappearance of an entire emotion. If all the emotional Light Spheres here were gone, what meaning would life hold for a person? Were all emotions merely facades? Could one truly be considered human without them?
Chen Moxuan had always believed that what defined humanity was the possession of diverse emotions. When a person lost their feelings, perhaps they could no longer be deemed human! This place was truly terrifying; no wonder it was called Heartless Valley!
However, as long as he refrained from transforming any more Emotional Connections, he could maintain his emotions. He decided to explore the valley first and familiarize himself with this strange environment.
Knowing he couldn't leave just yet and still pondering why he had come here in the first place, Chen Moxuan resolved to learn as much as possible about this place. He chose not to call Fu Bo along; instead, he wanted to wander freely.
Although having Fu Bo with him would allow for quicker acclimatization, exploring on his own would undoubtedly bring more enjoyment.
Once back on the streets, Chen Moxuan noticed that the inhabitants of this place were not few in number. The atmosphere was bustling and lively. However, considering that Heartless Valley was nestled within the Alamo Mountains, it seemed unlikely that many people would venture here; it should be relatively deserted.
Yet those who lived here needed vitality and Emotional Connections daily; without them, survival for many years would be impossible. Thus, one would expect the population in this valley to dwindle rather than thrive as it appeared to do now.
Could it be that there is another entrance to this Heartless Valley? He pondered for a moment and found this to be quite possible!
Before he knew it, he arrived in front of a tavern. Mo Wen Jiu Lou! The name was quite appealing; he decided to go in and take a look.
"Welcome, esteemed guest! Please have a seat. What would you like to eat?" A waiter approached him with a smile.
Chen Moxuan glanced at the menu and ordered a pot of Wu Liang Jiu, a plate of peanuts, and a serving of sliced beef.
Soon, the waiter brought out the items. "Please enjoy your meal."
"By the way, where do you source the ingredients for your dishes? There aren't any issues, are there?"
"Could it be that you've just entered Heartless Valley? The ingredients we use here, even the materials, are exchanged from Ruthless Mansion using vitality and Emotional Connection. We then prepare everything ourselves, so you can rest assured," the waiter explained.
"And when I finish and leave the tavern, will the price be automatically settled?"
"Yes! It's automatically calculated. But what if I don't have enough money on me?"
"Oh, that's simple! The Rules Spirit will condense enough vitality or Emotional Connection for payment," the waiter replied quickly, clearly knowledgeable about the process.
"But what if my own vitality and Emotional Connection aren't enough?"
"Then you would be in big trouble! Surely you wouldn't be that kind of person, would you?" The waiter looked at Chen Moxuan with curiosity.
"Of course not! I was just curious and asked a few more questions."
"That's good to hear. Just remember to spend within your means and avoid overspending!" The waiter reminded him before departing.
Chen Moxuan poured himself another cup of wine and looked around the tavern.
